    I still frequently think about how fucking terrible and infuriating it is that no one told Justin what to expect during anesthesia. Like hello doctor Mal Practice

    When i had my wisdom teeth out they had me breath some gas to numb me. I was totally awake, but i felt a level of incredible confidence and immortality that ill be chasing til i die. They practically were yanking teeth out my skull with pliers and i was sittin there feeling like i was god

      See, I got the IV anesthesia and the last thing I remember was saying to the nurses something along the lines of "You take your lunch orders at 9:15 in the morning?" and then absolutely nothing. Drugs are some powerful stuff.

      Dang, now I wish I’d had gas as an option for mine. I just had a needle to the gums to numb me. 😂

    That doctor was either a dunce or new. Dude talked to Justin like he was still there. When I got my wisdom teeth pulled, I was out of that shit in a similar vein to Justin. No one even tried to bother to explain anything to me. Surprised the doctor didn't talk to whoever was driving Justin to be like "hey here's some things you should tell him".

      I had a similar experience when I had some surgery a few years back. The nurse kept telling me stuff and I was so out of it that half an hour passed in the span of a blink. It's like. I'm currently working through a lot of meds here, please tell my driver and leave an information packet or something

    I remember one time having local amnestisia, for some hand-surgery. While feverishly trying to _not_ gaze down towards the "work site", one surgeon utterly broke my calm when exclaiming "...Wow, I've _never_ seen that _there_ before!"

    In the first episode that Justin talked about this, he stated that the Urologist grabbed and squeezed his vas defrans. And now on this episode Justin stated that during the procedure the Urologist behaved this way. This is seriously worrying. This is probably grounds for a medical malpractice claim. I know he's laughing about the experience, but this is not ok.
    Folks if a doctor ever does anything like this to you, talk to an attorney. If the doctor behaved like this there is no telling what else they've done.
    Surgical procedures no matter how small are serious matters and should be handled by serious people. Get multiple opinions from multiple surgeons.

      THANK YOU I literally came here from the first part of this bit thinking, "Damn that's a shitty doctor" because the way he was describing the guy's behavior sounded....like, it just reminded me of some of the shitty doctors I've been to that I don't really bitch about too much because I only have to see them once a year and they just come off kinda shitty but not harmful.
      That said, I'm curious as to what specific things you noted that were worrying. For me I just got a bad vibe but nothing that really said malpractice (except for the end where he's talking to a high person as if they're able to understand him).

    • @probablypossessed2075
      @probablypossessed2075 4 роки тому +28

      Honestly, it IS entirely possible he exaggerated certain elements since it’s a comedy podcast, but you’re right the vibes are completely off here

    • @Vallnerik
      @Vallnerik 4 роки тому +27

      @@kirstenerikapaulson2574 Just the whole vibe. People seem to think that doctors are above bad behavior and carelessness. Doctors can be idiots and assholes just like everyone else.
      My general feeling is that if a doctor is going operate on me or someone I love, they better be on-point and engaged.
      If I walk into a surgical consult, and the person that is performing the operation is distracted, rude, not listening etc. I'd walk out and go somewhere else.
      Surgery no matter how much we minimize the seriousness of it, is basically one step away from mutilation if the person with the knife is a moron.

    • @Vallnerik
      @Vallnerik 4 роки тому +11

      @@kirstenerikapaulson2574 also Doctors that are shitty are harmful.

    • @dig8634
      @dig8634 3 роки тому +19

      @@kirstenerikapaulson2574 The dude from the consultation is definitely on grounds for being sued if he truly did not give any warning before A) grabbing someone's genitals, regardless of the reason they were there, and B) doing something he apparently *knew* made a noteworthy amount of patients pass out. Both of those things are simply not acceptable under any circumstance. I truly do hope Justin misremembered, exaggerated or complained about this, cause that is not okay. Glad he can laugh about it, but the doctor could not have known how he would react before doing it.
      The nurse being vague would have gotten a complaint from me, though I wouldn't consider it malpractice. This is your job, while I as a patient might be shy and awkward, you as a medical professional cannot be "beating around the bush" in regards to how my medical procedure is to be done. Where and when am I cumming? You can not expect me to know what questions to ask or to figure this out myself, you gotta tell me *everything* you can imagine someone could get wrong and then some more just in case.
      If I have an unexpected baby because you thought I understood how to space out my 20 "evacuations" then you are the one to blame.
      The doctor making small talk during an operation is also a red flag, though not necessarily malpractice. In general, any comment that can make the procedure uncomfortable for the patient that isn't medically necessary should not be made.
      I don't know why they were talking about how knotted it was. Maybe it was relevant to the work being done properly and not just a passing comment like Justin made it out to be so I won't make any hasty judgements here. Justin definitely framed it in a way I would find problematic, but considering his mental state at the time and my lack of knowledge of how vasectomy procedures are done, it could very well be a justifiable comment.
      Explaining shit to a drugged person however? That is just unprofessional, especially considering he very much was supposed to have a driver they could have interacted with. The driver might not have been present for the doctor to easily pass on the information, in which case you give them the information once the high has passed, either via paper you hand them, text, call or later appointment. Expecting drugged people to process technical information is just not reasonable when you have other easy options.
      And lastly, just more information in general. The drug? Please do explain exactly what will happen to me before you give me drugs please. That Justin expected to get knocked out implies he wasn't told the specifics of the gas, which is troubling. Please add reassuring statements after saying very much troubling things like "you might be awake if you breathe with your nose". How hard is it gonna be to avoid that? My general attitude after such a warning is definitely gonna be to stress out unnecessarily, wondering if I'm gonna accidentally take a single breath through my nose and then be in blinding pain and not be able to do anything about it.

    I can corroborate that the whole "twilight state" that justin is talking about was the same for me when I had teeth surgery. It was just a bunch of colors and stuff... eventually I think I fell asleep, but yeah. it be like that sometimes.

    The only time I’ve ever had the gas was for a double hernia surgery when I was like 7.
    The nurse kept telling me to watch the “balloon” that I was blowing up when I would breath. But here’s the thing: there was no balloon.
    So I started internally freaking out because I couldn’t find the balloon, my eyes darting all around the room to find it. She just kept on insisting. I wanted to close my eyes so she’d think I was asleep and stop going on about this fictional balloon, but I worried they’d start cutting me open before I was out. Eventually I blinked and teleported to the recovery room, alone. I saw the needle in my arm and flashed back to every movie where the action hero man pulls a needle out of his arm and I considered it so hard but didn’t want to get in trouble so I sat there for like an hour before any human being came to check on me or even entered the room.
    Eventually I figured out the “balloon” was probably that accordion shaped air pump thing. Why anyone would call it a balloon is beyond me.

      Doctors just have to inform you about that. I cannot believe this apparently is a common thing. How on Earth is it acceptable for doctors to give you drugs without explaining properly what they are gonna do to your body? Wtf?
      You don't have to explain how the molecules in my body react to knock me out or anything, just say what to expect. I obviously don't know this shit, I am not a doctor.

    Reminds me of the time I thought I'd be getting laughing gas for my wisdom teeth surgery (I had for my first two. This surgery was the second two) but after giving me the local anesthesia, they just started and I was like okay guess I'm just going to be completely present for this.

    I had a spontaneous pneumothorax, and when I went under for the surgery, they gave me the gas and my whole body got craaaazy prickley and felt really vibraty and uncomfortable. But I wasn't blacking out. They were talking to each other, and seemed like they would start when it didn't work. So I legit started panicking. After a minute of my whole body vibrating aggressively, I finally just snapped out and was gone. I've had surgeries before, but this was terrifying
