Thank you for taking good care of your animals. I love those calves. I believe number 6 needs a bum care too. She is so cute. All your cows are good mothers. I love the speckle cow does she have a name. Can't wait to see the rest of the calves that are in the oven. Dad always said need six cows for six calves. I for the freezer 2 for land taxes. 3 for winter feed. And everyone is happy. Thank for taking me along.
Mike, it is so heart warming to see the love and care you give these animals, even though they are going to be food. You give them such a great life while they are with you.
#6 should be named April. We would love to come out and see her this summer once the RV lot is finished.

When they say that Life is a Journey they are not kidding. Mike, you and Erin are doing an awesome job of filling the puzzle pieces in. There are good days and bad days . Yous go with the flow.
Felt bad for the calf with scours. You never want to have a sick animal. Glad the twins are doing good. That little heifer wanted out and free. This is my favorite time of year when these little ones are born. Great video and music !!!

In the end, it probably was a blessing and perfect timing. With the drought - as you said last year, a lot of farmers were cutting their herd size - dropping down to 30 may be the best thing for the herd; there just isn't enough grass (if you call that grass) to sustain them. Little 'Martina' is so cute!

I’m glad to see that little heifer is doing so good. When you brought her in to put her in the warmer I didn’t think she was going to make it. That warmer was well worth the money. That little calf with the scours should be fine since you caught it so quickly. We lost a lot of calves to the scours years ago when we were in the dairy business.
That little bottle calf is your up front beef ambassador. It's an awsome idea showing the reality to all whom visit.
I think he wanted to stay and be the bottle calf.
Your setting down beside that calf in the field shows how much you care for your anamils.

No. 8 baby is so beautiful!!! Looks like she's going to be a pretty color. Poor little no. 7. You take such good care of all the newborn calves and their mamas. Hope the med helps the little feller. Twin no. 6 is adorable. Mama is really attentive to baby no. 5 onc they got outside. She's a very good mom.

Sara & myself look forward to visiting the ranch & enjoying some of your farm to table food. We are in Rapid City now, but having worked the family farm in NE SD, I know that when butchering season was near, my mouth began to water. No grocery store can beat the flavor of knowing where the meat came from. Beef, pork, Lamb, Chicken, eggs, etc.............. we raised & enjoyed it all. Thank You for bringing all those memories back 🙂

It's totally cool how you've become a husband to all those cows and the heifers and calves daddy,! It's really a great thing to teach us just exactly how that goes!
Even if you have less cows and get to spend more time with them you have always treated your cows with respect even with more cows and never been some rodeo dumbass cowboy with their cows I've watched your videos for 4 years and that's what keeps me coming back your good people giving the animals under your care the best life possible growing up I had family in Michigan with a Black Angus cattle ranch and my family was the same way my cousin's always wanted to get away from the farm but I always love to go there so now that I'm older and no longer go to the farm I always watch your videos and that brings me happiness maybe one day I'll book a stay at the ranch .

Little number 7 just saying thank you by leaving you a "gift" My grandparents gave their calves raw eggs when they had scours. It worked. I do not know how, I just know it worked!
Hello Mike just remember God never closes one door without opening another with everything that you went through the last couple of years the drought and everything downsizing was probably the best thing that could have happened
I like how you make a positive outlook on something that in the beginning probably seemed so terrible. As you stated, the rest of the herd will have that much more attention and your cost will be substantially less with the smaller herd. Obviously, the income will be less too, but your stress and the amount of work will be more manageable. You and Erin have a fantastic outlook and perspective for your family's future. 13:54 made me think of my neighbors old Boxer. When he was a pup, he'd get up on the golf cart and ride everywhere with me. When was grown, and weighed in around 100 pounds, he was to big to get on the seat and turn around, so he'd just ride backwards, everywhere we went. Hilarious.

As the old cowboy saying goes, "Think you're not afraid? Get between a momma cow and her calf!" I've been smashed into the passenger door from the driver door by a momma cow cause she didn't like the idea of me checking on her baby! They do not have a sense of humor!!

While many American consumers has been conditioned to by cheap and that the quality is of lesser concern, those that have supported small business realize the added benefits and friendships that develop over the years. Those shoppers come to trust the quality of the products you produce and sell. Every small business owner is facing challenges everyday and profit margins can fluctuate greatly especially when nature and Washington DC is involved. I enjoy watching how your morning plans for that day can change on a dime and you soldier on. Saturday’s Ag Day TV show described a lot of our food producing states in a similar drought as yours, hopefully things will improve this year.

It kind of looked like mother already picked which calf she wanted. I would keep a close eye on #5 to make sure she is raising him like she should. She didn't seem to pay attention to him as much as she did to her. But she may take to him once her bag gets full and sore again
Its so cute to see those young calves. Yes there is a reality on cattle ranches they reproduce or they leave. My uncle use to say every cow had to due her job and yes he said it about his bull too.

Had one with twins a few years back, both were heifers, but the mom rejected one anyway, so same results for us, a bottle calf. Thanks for sharing, have a great week ahead.

I totally agree with you about spending quality time with small groups. I run between 30 and 40 cows which is small for my area. But I know each calf and if it is one to retain or move it out.
The calf class of 2022 are beautiful truly they are beautiful every one of them has a beautiful face how can you love them

Great video, Mike! I agree 100% with your philosophy, the “right” size ranch (number of acres or head you run) is whatever best fits you, and your situation. We run our small family cattle ranch with that same philosophy, and care for every single critter (sometimes maybe even “too” much)!
Love seeing the babies jump and play, it’s my favorite time of year on the ranch.

Very good insight into livestock management business. I went to Kansas State University in hopes of majoring in Livestock Management. It is a very tough industry in which to make a profit. We bought, fed & managed a small herd . The financial aspect only existed on paper, but the cows were real & were at the University Research Farms. It was disappointing when you put the calculator to it. We were unable to come up with a profit, but understand the "labor of love" in the livestock business. I hope your expansion comes to fruition & it works out well for you.
