You’d be surprised how many people become a salesman not because they have a passion for cars, but because they want a job within sales with commission incentive salary.
This is easy for me. I’ve owned all 3, and the one I’d buy again is the m140i. B58 3.0 straight 6 turbo every time. I got bored very quickly with the R and S3. I actually only owned the Golf for 3 months before selling it to 7days. M140i is such a nicer car in my opinion, smooth, tuneable, excellent on long journeys, the perfect project car, and very affordable. Grab a very good LCI shadow edition with good miles for less than £20k.
Seat Leon Cupra 300 ST (estate) 4drive. 18 reg (pre gpf, but WITH digital dash). Same running gear as S3/Golf R. Similar to Golf R estate but cheaper and better looking in and out. £480 revo stage 1 will get you 370 bhp(gearbox remap not really necessary with stage 1). Airbox mod (free ..Google 'pikey 600') and £200 oversized turbo elbow will take you to 380 bhp. With launch control (fitted as standard) low 4's 0-60. 30 mpg average mixed, 40 possible on a run at 60-70 mph. Happy hunting 👍
I don't get the Hyundai hype when it comes to sound. They sound so tinny and artificial from factory. Everything else about them is quality though and value for money is MAD!
I’m an old fart and went from m140i to a golf r estate. Out of the box the golf handles, stops and feels a far batter chassis. But for modifying fun and long distances the B58 is a far better choice. Standard the golf is fast the 140i is a next step up. I learnt the hard way modifying 5 GT turbos,RS Turbos back in the day so I just keep cars standard. I would imagine a heavily modified 2litre to feel quite stressed but the B58 is just a big lazy lob on 😀😀 and handle it far better
You can’t compare 5 turbo reliability to a golf r. They are capable of 600bhp on stock engine. Probably issues at that power but 400-450 shouldn’t be an issue if looked after
@ I’m not comparing in any way. I was implying I had my fun modifying cars in the early 90s. I prefer to keep them standard today in part because there are no tuners local to me. And if it all goes wrong it doesn’t cost a few hundred quid to make them right like it used to. Basically I just buy the car of the power I want to start with. But that’s an impressive figure out of the golf if looked after
What's 'better' about a virtual dash ? Much rather have analogue dials, than a cheap naff screen, personally. That OG M2 looks just like mine, same colour too. Fantastic car, still feels raw and every drive is an experience.
M140 then you can do the basic mods and make a series onto what youve done to bring it more inline with the m4, its never going to be an m car but itll do 99 percent of that with some handling mods and a stage 2+, also doesn't cost a bomb to maintain
@DrivenPlus someone in your position could really make insightful videos on something like a 140 since you have access to rs3s etc, one thing UA-camrs tend to do with them is they'll do all the handling mods and say yeah it's great now for fast road use but they never offer a comparison, for the average viewer that hasn't driven a modified 140 we want to know does it stack up handling to say an rs3 or with the suspension sorted is it then on par with say a golf r or A45 on the twisties which I think you could make a really interesting series from, such as making the ultimate hatch then modifying the 140 and explaining what it's achieved and how it is directly compared to other hatches in the class, great video as always, all the best
@@DrivenPlus sounds great man if you end up with an m140 you should definitely test the 30-70 times against the hyper hatches like rs3 and an a45s hell even be good to see if it has legs against the M4 maybe need stage 2 or higher for that though 😂 and just see what a simple tune can do to the performance of the car look forward to see what happens, take care 👍

The 140i is a good shout but, next to a CS it might just feel like a slower, diluted kind of similar vehicle experience so something totally different might keep the driving experiences of both cars unique.
