Childrenofmidian Ive always wondered about that, my theory is that they wanted to show him off on the rooftop when youre taking the helicopter to get out of the city but then they just forgot to make it pan over the house.
+Childrenofmidian since max chen has to appear later for the meeting in the temple, my theory is that they just stuck him on that rooftop to keep him in memory in a place nobody would normally find him
Just completed Deus Ex: Revision.. in like 80 hours X_x (highly, highly recommend it to people who've played the original) and seeing this done so quick was great :D ! Loved it
+Labbekak Hey, do you know which glitches have been fixed? I've been playing revision lately and would like to try some of them out if they still work. Looking forward to seeing a good revision run!
+Seegtease Item duplication using the mouse wheel is pretty much fixed, it still kinda works but it's very hard and so not useful for speedruns. The glitchy save no longer works in the prison, so I lose all my items there. Other than that all the glitches work more or less, super jump, body dupe and grenade clips are all still there.
+Labbekak I just tried the mouse wheel item dupe and it worked, but I couldn't dupe grenades, only lockpicks, multitools, medkits, and biocells. I had to have multiple down at once to grab. Still useful for a speedrun, you just need to stop briefly to make it work, possibly.
+Seegtease Yeah it still works, but way worse than in the original. I have to stand still and drop a stack down and then it takes me at least 30s to get a stack of 15 medkits. In the original I could get a stack while running! And when you start with 2 medkits, it can take at least a minute to go to 15, which sucks for speedrun :/ How quickly can you dupe from 2 to 15?
Deus Ex has been one of my favorite games since it was released. It will always hold such a special place in my heart. This speedrun made me quite happy. Great work, man. I would like to begin learning everything I need to learn to speedrun this game. I have a few questions for you... 1.) How long did it take you to do this run? I mean from the beginning of the first failed segment to the final fastest segment. How long were you recording and running each part overall? 2.) Could you possibly link to me a list of all of the different sources you used to learn the fastest ways to complete the entire game? I would love to learn and start practicing as soon as possible. :) You are the best. Thank you in advance.
о да.Особенно когда ты получаешь GEP gun в начале игры и можешь с помощью него всех боссов убивать с 1 выстрела становиться очень сложно.Особенно когда тебе дают Зуб Дракона. Пиздец как сложно
Yeah, I first thought that you used the same technique for all, but I finished to watch the Twitch link right now :) Not sure if I can do that. I was looking for something fun to perform while playing (no SR)
They're not that hard, you just have to know what spot to aim at (found by experimentation) and then repeat until you get it. Some are harder to get than others, Mole Tunnel is easy and Duclare is really hard. Search for "heinki deus ex tutorial" to find an (outdated) tutorial by Heinki that shows the clips and more tricks. There is also a new trick at Vandenberg that's not in this video, you just shoot at the helipad at the end, somewhere in the air and you skip the whole map :D There is floating exit trigger, found by Hawkbird.
+MagikGimp The developers put him there, probably for a cutscene knowing full well that players would never get up there. In the older games and even in some of the newer ones, cutscenes that you never get to as the player are still rendered and real somewhere on the map, usually under it or way off to the side and your camera is just put there so you can watch. In this instance, it was in a 100% unreachable, unseeable place on the map and he just happened to be a real version of the boss that could be talked to. When players did find a way up there, it let them skip a bunch of stuff because he had the dialog ready for them as if they'd done everything they already needed to do.
I'm trying to do a nihilist-type run for this game right now. i.e. no kills, no detections, no items, no skills, no augs and all that. So now I'm up to Anna Navarre in the UNATCO HQ, with her impassable door. She's got three exploits to get past her. First by damaging her until she can't attack, then using her AI and blocking her in to make her open the door. Secondly with some exploit I managed to string together that involves blowing a spy drone on the other side of the door. She'll run to the door and open it to investigate on the other side. And thirdly by using the LAM clipping thing you did here, which is pretty fuckin' cool actually. Only problem is that they all involve using augs or items. So now I'm basically just doing some research. How did you clip through the door of the compound at 17:03? And are there any other physics glitches that could be useful?
At 17:03 I'm just jumping over the door, so it's not an exploit and won't help you with Anna. The only way to get past Anna without items (that I know of) is to get her killphrase, which you can get on Gunthers and Manderleys computers. PancakeTaicho is routing an Ultimate Run, you can probably use some strats from this: www.twitch.tv/videos/143407220
Labbekak Heh, nice to know that there's other people doing runthroughs with all these restrictions. The only difference is that using the kill phrase on Anna will break the 'no kills' rule. I'll watch the rest of the run and see if there's anything I can use, but so far I'm kinda stumped. I'm guessing I'll have to do something involving a physics glitch.
If you can trap Anna between boxes and then stay on her head she might die, or if you get her stuck on a box and then push her in a wall. But Anna is very aggressive so those things will be difficult to accomplish, it would be quite an achievement if you manage to do it, record it when you're done with the route!
Labbekak Actually, that gives me an idea. You could probably use the first exploit that requires you to damage Anna until she flees, but she wouldn't technically die. Since I can't use any items and I can't be spotted, it's kinda hard to damage her, but dropping heavy boxes onto her or using a TNT crate might damage her just right. And once she flees, I don't think it even counts as being spotted since the combat music never starts. I'll be sure to record it fully if I can actually complete the whole game like this. I mean, I spent about two hours yesterday making the great wall of fucking China out of metal boxes just to get through the mole people tunnels, so it'll take a while.
Are you doing glitchless? There's a trick called saveclimbing/jumping, you jump, save, then load while holding jump, you will jump as soon as the save loads even though you are already in the air, using this trick you can get as high as you please.
Haha well someone with more precision, patience and time could probably get about 33:00. I never did a segment more than about 50 times and I segmented wherever I wanted. But at the moment this is the fastest glitched run there is ;) There's very little new things discovered since this run.
+Kai Ludwig At 0:30 I'm making a save on the last frame of the conversation with Paul, this save is done while the conversation camera is playing. Reloading this save makes some strange things happen, like reloading the adjacent map. So I'm reloading this save which causes an error to appear on screen and then I got back to the previous map, now the whole map is back to it's default state and the aug upgrade canister is back. I use this save at the UNATCO prison to, loading it right when I enter the prison will make me keep my items. Loading this save will also make infolinks stop playing, I use this at the missile silo.
Alright one last question, then I swear I'll leave you alone. How do you move so quickly through the medbot interface at 6:25? I've played around with it for a while but I can't seem to get through it any other way than clicking each individual button with the mouse.
I kill myself while I'm falling and sometimes your dead body will clip through the floor of the elevators. After the dead body has clipped through the elevator floor, I resurrect myself by saving and loading using a save hotkey that was bound in User.ini.
If you do an SDA run, I think you should edit the music so it doesn't restart after every level change, like put it in post. also great run, this is my favorite speedrun game, and my favorite game.
Thanks man! Yeah I should, if you wait a little bit after reloading, the music will restart and it will be fine, but after so many reloads I really didn't want to wait a little bit, so I just decided to leave it like this.
Unfortunately not, in this run I used some glitches that can only be done with a modification of a user config file, which is something that is not allowed by SDA. But someone else is working on a run without these glitches, so hopefully the 43 minute run will be updated sometime soon!
Labbekak I wonder if there's some way to use that body duplication glitch when you get the first upgrade canister. That would be legit by SDA standards, right?
interesting. Out of curiosity, how would you go about saving the glitchy save in a hard save? And is there anything else you do in this run that would need to be tweaked for SDA?
Dean Rodman You would press escape at the last frame of a conversation and make a save from the menu. All the elevator skips wouldn't be allowed (by killing yourself and letting your body drop through the elevator), because you can only resurrect yourself with a save bind from the user config files. The Dead Man Walking glitch at Area 51 (where I kill myself with the GEP and then resurrect myself) would also not be allowed, but there is another SDA approved method to do that. Everything else is totally legit.
They just assumed those doors weren't clipped and didn't properly test it. Atleast on the SDA forums, I never saw a mention of all the clips I use when dex was routing for the 43:20 run. To be honest before Jjpallazo showed that the Mole Tunnel door is clippable, I never tried it myself. After that was found out, everyone went on a clip hunt, since a lot of things turned out to be clippable after all.
How do you do the multiple LAW rockets glitch? do you only need to go to a level portal before the item deletes itself, or is there a buggy save or something involved?
Just curious, do you sometime fail in grenade-clip glitch ? I have to retry between 4 and 10 times before it works... I believe that during is live speedrun UraniumAnchor is quicksaving before each grenade-clip attempt...
This video is a segmented speedrun, meaning I cut out all the failed parts. If I would do a run in one sitting (called RTA or Single Segment With Resets) I would save before the clip like UraniumAnchor and I would probably fail it a couple of time ;) The grenade clips are inherently random, since the angle you throw a grenade at is slightly randomized.
Labbekak Yes, but even segmented, if the grenade-clip is at the end of the segment, you may need to retry the whole segment whereas you did everything else perfectly. Impressive...
Yves Lhuillier Since I can save anywhere in Deus Ex, I can segment right before the grenade clips. If you look closely you can see me saving/loading right before most of the clips. So I didn't need to restart any complete segments at all. So it's less impressive than you think ;)
Labbekak ;) You're right it seems easy after all ! Nevertheless the first grenade clip after Brooklyn Bridge Station, accross the women's restroom door, is too hard for me... Never made it after a huge number of tries (easily more than 50 times)... Maybe i should head for a speedrun on the Malkavian Mod ;-)
And anyone who thinks that breaking the intended rules of the developer to do anything (including speedrunning) in their game isn't cheating is the much bigger moron.
@Labbekak Thanks for that, although I noticed it's not entirely glitchless. For example, he exploited a BSP Hole in order to go through what is supposed to be a solid wall at 43:31. You did the same in this video at 27:04
Noah Dinardi To do the jumps just open the Game Options menu while the speed augmentation is on. To keep the items I load a glitchy save as soon as I enter the prison map. I create this glitchy save in the beginning by saving on the last frame of the conversation with Paul at Liberty Island. The game will try to load the conversation camera but fail, which causes many useful glitches, like skipping infolinks and resetting adjacent maps.
Well, in realistic mode commandos and bots can kill you with 1 shot and other soldiers can kill you with 2-3 shots. Interesting they couldn't shot your head.
the saiyadjinn This is a segmented speedrun, meaning I cut out all parts where I died or messed up. That's why you don't see them headshot me. When I was recording all this I was shot in the head many many times :p
1:28 FUCK THE STEALTH PISTOL. Used to love that thing when I was young, but now I just see no point for a silenced, lethal weapon. Kinda contradictory in the wrong circumstances. Most days I'm tested my own modded hardware, so I drop the stealth pistol 100% of the time. RIP.
Yeah, it's useless. Also stealth pistol is weaker than normal pistol. I like normal pistol equipped with scope. Pretty good for headshots when you've got proper pistol skill upgraded :) Best game ever made I love it.
Ever since I read the TraceFire source code I've avoided scopes constantly. Used to love it, don't get me wrong, but the mechanics behind it are quite devious. Laser, when activated, makes the gun 100% pinpoint accurate period. Scope, when activated, makes the gun 100% accurate, but with wobble. When a scope is NOT in use, it forces an accuracy penalty that's calculated after laser, meaning it will always sabotage your accuracy firing from the hip. Using range mods (or the sniper rifle, due to how accuracy is calculated) can reduce the amount of which hipfiring with a scope on limits your accuracy. You are every bit as penalized in accuracy, but it's calculated relative to a longer range, meaning it's overall a tighter spread.
Nice. Now I'd like to see you do a realistic speedrun, with no glitch, no item duping, and all passwords must be found before used to open doors/hack comps. Good luck ))
Interesting. The official fastest run (almost a good ten minutes longer) uses some of the same tricks but not in the same places. That aug upgrade glitch and some other things I've never seen before. You should submit this run to www.speeddemosarchive.com but, as you say, it could be even further optimised.
+MagikGimp This route would not be accepted by SDA, because I edited a configuration file to give me multiple save hotkeys (which allows for some of the glitches you see).

Childrenofmidian Ive always wondered about that, my theory is that they wanted to show him off on the rooftop when youre taking the helicopter to get out of the city but then they just forgot to make it pan over the house.
EMCE BANANA That's not a bad theory at all actually

What does Manderley say about the mission when you break into HQ without completing it?
krankenshaft Same thing as if you complete the mission normally.
You need to make a tutorial on how to glitch through walls. I'm still having trouble pulling it off lol.
Check out twitch.tv/chutsc2/v/42720807
Labbekak Thanks!
So I guess Swimming isn't fairly useless.
Unskippable swimming sequences, so you better swim as fast as possible :p
and the levels aren't ugly, and not everyone looks the same

Labbekak
;) You're right it seems easy after all ! Nevertheless the first grenade clip after Brooklyn Bridge Station, accross the women's restroom door, is too hard for me... Never made it after a huge number of tries (easily more than 50 times)... Maybe i should head for a speedrun on the Malkavian Mod ;-)
12:29 "Shh!" BOOOOOOM
Man, are there any speedruns at all of this game without cheating glitch exploitation?
echelon2k8 There's one by cHuT: www.twitch.tv/videos/48814838
echelon2k8 Anyone who thinks glitching in a speedrun is cheating is a moron plain and simple, nothing else to it.
You did the same in this video at 27:04
You're not playing Deus Ex if you're cheating in it.
Gotta go fast.
What's that thing you keep turning on and off in the menu?
+Rogue Packets It's a glitch, simply by opening and closing the Game Options menu while the speed aug is turned on, my jump height increases.
Just as I thought. GEP gun is vital.
How'd you do those crazy jumps? It just looks like you're going in and out of the menu.
Also how'd you keep all your items after you got captured?
When I was recording all this I was shot in the head many many times :p
oh i read that "augmented". nice speedrun
Love it !!
how many times did you complete it before?))
Дмитрий Петренко Hundreds of times ;)
Be the man, take the GEP gun! Nice
Good luck ))
so you want a casual run?
best game ever made
how you can go so fast with racketgun in second level? Some trick?
At the start I upgrade the "Heavy Weapons" skill to Advanced, this allows you to run with the GEP (rocket) gun and the flamethrower.
Labbekak yeaaah.. I have not noticed. Sorry. But nice speedrun. My gametime is 24 hour :D You are better a little bit.
sailsSK8 Haha well this was after months of finding tricks and practicing ;)
Labbekak Wow. Its not easy, I know.. But result is awesome.
not advisable to visit the canals at night.
5:32 the music lol
about 31.5 hours faster than my first playthrough
First game is Deus Ex, other parts needs to rename in other names
Heads up JC
Interesting. The official fastest run (almost a good ten minutes longer) uses some of the same tricks but not in the same places. That aug upgrade glitch and some other things I've never seen before. You should submit this run to www.speeddemosarchive.com but, as you say, it could be even further optimised.
+MagikGimp This route would not be accepted by SDA, because I edited a configuration file to give me multiple save hotkeys (which allows for some of the glitches you see).
Sweet thumbnail!
You forgot to visit the ladies restroom!
16:49 what the actual FUCK
It is very impressive, but it's more of a glitching through the game than a speedrun.
You killed Jock!!!!
its a speedrun bro not a walkthru :D
+JooseMunkee as i said its a speedrun he would have lose time by doing that
I didn't really experiment that much with it, so maybe there is a way to save Jock without losing time.
Why would anyone want to rush through a game this. THe more I love a game the longer I want to stay in it.
Ohh jaaaaaa
Holy Shit! :O
holy....
Gliczujesz. Taki z Ciebie DeusEx jak ze mnie Lech Wałęsa.
are you crazy bro lol
0:54 WTF was that! It's not a speedrun, it's exploiting the game's bugs.
