Was in a pit last week, them shits are addictive to the point I no longer pick gigs based on artist but on how likely I am to be punched in the head lol
Me too man. Nothing like this stupid windmill sissy shit today. It was about the collective energy of 10’s, 100’s, or 1000’s of people coming together and blowing the roof off toward, but not against people. Totally agree.
@@miketausig4205 they try to call it “hardcore dancing” but hardcore started in late 70’s with germs and black flag. I went to my first punk show a month ago (dri) I never got to see a band I liked and I knew if I went to some crappy band itd be people having seizures in the pit (I’m 20 now) and It was the most fun I had. It was dri so I figured it was gonna be a normal put no matter what and I was correct. Since no one really listen to bands like the germs and stuff I am going back to that old sound and stuff and hopefully bring it back to life instead of this death metal stuff
i wanna ask so much why is it mostly men ? why do i feel so save around these men instead of the men sociality likes why are they so fucking cool lmao i love punks ngl
80% of the audience is men, but I've still seen some wicked chix get in the pit. You probably feel safer around us because we let our physical aggression and anger out in a controlled environment, instead of taking it home and terrorizing the people who care about us. I'm a bit older now, and too banged up to mosh anymore, so now I take my aggression out on a motorcycle and a good road. Keep rockin' chik! 🤟😎🤙😚
Atleast with my limited experience with irl punks and moshes, punk guys are dope as fuck. They won't grope you as you dance, instead they will protect you from being stomped on and dying lmao. Those are the real guys!
Because as hard and as fast and as brutal as mosh pits can become there is an expectation of safety and respect. If someone falls: you pick them up. End of discussion. If someone wants to leave the pit you, on the edge of the pit, open up to let them leave. You don't throw fists, you don't kick, you don't fight and you never take anything personally when in there. The pits exists to let out all kinds of aggression and negative emotions in a controlled way and feel relaxed when it's all over.
Dude I was at one Offspring show and almost got killed on the pit when they played "Bad habit" lol and I have been to death metal, punk and thrash shows before, but dude "Bad habit" made everybody jump, push, run, etc
Depends on where you live. I was 14 when I first started going. There were a lot that were just in the next town over about 20 minutes away but some of the bands like suicidal tendencies would play at the bigger arena's an hour or 2 away. Worth it though if you love the music.
Silly metal heads, walking around in circles, afraid to bump into each other. There's too much respect & safety today, not enough risk, danger, violence. Mostly at metal & crossover shows.
Nope! Believe it or not, mosh pits aren't very dangerous. You might get an elbow to the face but generally they're very safe. Ironically, several people got killed at a Pearl jam show in Denmark at a festival, and others at a Smashing pumpkins concert. It's not really the mosh pit or how punk the band is, it's how many people are there. Which is why Giant concert festivals are so dangerous, and why so many people got killed at that Travis Scott concert a few years ago. Smaller venues are more punk and more intimate and just more fun in general. Nobody wants to be around 100,000 other people. But you let 2,000 people into a small venue and you have a great time and can get to know each other.
As crazy and violent as it looks there’s a set of rules #1 and the most important when someone falls you pick them up #2 no karate in the pit #3 never go into the pit with the intention to hurt anyone. This is only really true for metal pits it isn’t true for hardcore and punk pits. Moshing comes from the energy of the music for us when we’re at a concert it gives you this energy and excitement that just makes you want to move. Plus it’s also a very good release of negative energy and aggression. I’ve been to many metal shows and there’s nothing like the camaraderie and excitement we share for the music. Metal fans are just the best! The vast majority of people you meet at a metal show is so so nice! Now this isn’t to say it doesn’t get rough and that people don’t get hurt. But the vast majority of people don’t hurt others on purpose and the people that are doing it on purpose usually get their shit wrecked at some point
I’m from the 80s pits and had no idea they were still at it. The high you get off of the energy is something you have to experience.
