  • Played my club champs semifinal on Tuesday and lost 3-1. I had a shot at winning this because he was making some errors, but I couldn’t quite capitalize. Every game was 7-all and then a grind to the finish. He was sharper at the end of the games.
My take-aways from this match were:
    1. Be more intentional about which corner I'm hitting to. I usually hit a better shot if I think about a target (e.g. "back left corner") versus thinking about the type of shot I'm hitting (e.g. "straight drive"). This would have helped solve one of my biggest problems in this match, which was not getting the correct depth. Sometimes my balls were landing too short, like before the service box, and sometimes they were doing too deep and rebounding way off the back wall. Need to dial the target in a little better so he's stuck in the corner rather than getting a ball he can attack.
    2. One good thing I did as the match wore on is I started thinking, if you want to take this game from me, you'll need to hit 11 winners against me. It's a way of upping my consistency, because it takes the pressure off me to hit outright winners, and it also takes some of the sting out of losing a point because if your opponent does hit a winner, you just can just say good shot and move on.
