@BIGGGESTAL Very true, world stage sport is no joke, football, F1 and all the rest, however boxing indeed is a whole and entire other level of pressure, spotlight and absolutely nowhere to hide, a trauma on mind and body, that many, watching from the sofa, do not fully appreciate - respect to all competition boxers.
Exactly! and perfectly summed up, Waton went in with a plan, and using his head, went back to grass roots peak a boo style so Nigel was effectivley tiring himself out throwing everything at arms and elbows, while Watson peered through the middle, counter punching and then finishing Benn off, later at the end, when Benn was shattered and had nothing left. Great, tactical performance form Michael Watson against a ferocious unrelenting banger who always went in to take his opponents head off.
I went to this fight and picked Watson to win the moment the fight was announced. The atmosphere was crazy. So sad what happened to Watson but on this night he was superb, reminded me of Marlon Starling with that tight defence he used that night
In building up Michael Watson, why did they show clips of him fighting Mike "The Body Snatcher" McCallum? McCallum took him apart by the end of the 11th round and left him gasping on the ground. Mike delivered a boxing clinic to Michael Watson. A masterclass in the art, craft and science of boxing, the science of body punching, the art of dodging punches, body movement, ring mastery and strategy, They made it look as though McCallum was one of his victories.
Bit one-sided though. I grew up on the next road from Benn so was a huge fan... I was just a kid but I remember how upset I was to see him being given a boxing lesson.
@@michaelvedel1035 They fought twice. Eubank won the first on points, majority decision. In the rematch Watson was comfortably ahead in round 10 and Eubank knew he needed a knockout and started throwing bombs - he connected with a huge uppercut that sent Watson down. Watson got up just as the bell went but was on very shaky legs from that point on and Eubank got the knockout. Watson collapsed.
@@jaywalkercrew4446 Benn was a club fighter at best with a low boxing IQ and fought mostly stiffs - I am into boxing for the last 55 years and train fighters. 🥊
Brutal I remember this fight, what a great time for boxing. with Benn, Eubank, Watson, Collins, then when Benn fought Barkley etc, and now what we got lots of hype and mostly avoiding anybody that might even remotely give a boxer a hard time..
Wasn't a fan of Benn or Collins, i liked Eubank, Watson and then Calzaghe. The likes of Froch wouldn't have stood a chance against any of the names i mentioned. It was a shame what happened to Watson because he was technically that good a boxer. McGuigan was spot on about Benn...a fighter not a boxer and always more interested in his hairstyles.
You missed out the part where after the Benn win, Watson challenged Mike McCallum for the WBA Middleweight title in April, 1990. McCallum was too good and too strong for Watson as he dominated the fight before knocking Michael out in the 11th round.
Mike Mc Callum challenged both Benn and Eubank and they both refused, with good reason, he'd have beat them then on their home soil, that's how he operated, poor guy was so good he was too good which went against him. For the record, he challenged Eubank at MW straight after he'd beaten Benn to become WBO Champion, he was the WBA King and wanted to try Unify that Division but he had no takers, also challenged Benn in 92 at SMW not long after he'd claimed the WBC Title but was once again, refused. 🥊🥊
By the time Nigel stepped in the ring with McClellan, McClellan was already suffering brain damage which is why he couldn't go on and ended up as he is today.
Terrible story can't t help but think Michael Watson was not the veiwing figure favourite. How can bennand eubank have a paralysed oponent too suspicjous
smart fight let him hook his self out and tire and then u just beat him up he took nigels wil thats all he did proves defense can always beat offense just like in football

Watson put on a tactical masterclass that night.

Michael Watson was a fabulous boxer. Underrated then and underrated now.
I sparred with Michael Watson back in the day. He was very talented. I also sparred with Nigel Ben, Kirkland Laing and Steve Collins
@@life107familyfitnessboxing8 I bet sparring with Kirkland was interesting! Super talented.
Who surprised you? Who was the best boxer? Who was the strongest? Who was the best?

Yes,Marlon Starling 'The Magic Man'..one of the best defensive fighters ever.
The Watson Eubank rematch was so sad 😢
Yet, at the same time, EPIC!
You put together a nice very professional presentation. I was unfamiliar with your page and was apprehensive about clicking, but I'm glad I did. 👍

I am a big fan of Micheal Watson but you are right, Mike McCallum beat him and in my humble opinion one of the most underrated champions...
Very rare to see this kind of warrior energy anymore.
It was rare then.
I feel like Nigel Benn Vs Micheal Watson deserved a rematch, the first fight was entertaining as hell
Bit one-sided though. I grew up on the next road from Benn so was a huge fan... I was just a kid but I remember how upset I was to see him being given a boxing lesson.
Did Chris Eubank not destroy Michael Watson so he died?
Or was he in coma after the match????

Very humble Michael Watson: "He gave me my hardest fight yet." Got him out of there, beaten and knackered in six rounds!
Watson was the best of our 3 benn n eubanks
hell no
Oh yess
We'll never know because of what happened to Watson plus he lost twice to Eubanks so NO he can't be the best of the three can he.
Michael Watson one of my favourites not to become world champion so heartbreaking and unlucky.Shows his level to come back after such a tragedy.
Michael watson was my favourite boxer, great to watch . A real tragedy what happened to him
What an epic fight, Watson, Benn and Eubank were the top British boxer's of the Eighties. Great video and commentary, thanks for posting 👍

To: All Young Boxing Fans,
If you want to see the three most exciting boxers of all time, watch Nigel Benn, Iron Mike Tyson, and Manny Pacquiao.
Benn was a wild swinging fighter like a club fighter and Watson totally out classed him. 🥊

Nigel Benn with the BLADE haircut 🥷
Ninja.
Michael Watson's shelled defense kinda reminds me of Muhammad Ali's Rope-A-Dope.
Prior to this fight, Nigel Benn was being touted as "The Middleweight Mike Tyson."
Anyone over 40 from Hoxton remembers Watson ❤ still a legend
Anyone over 40 should remember Watson wherever they're from.
Nice, very nice, Watson.
watson was a smart man to not show his hand when sparring
Such a classic time for british boxing. Michareal Watson was a goat along with Herold Bomber
I always thought that the referee lack of concentration between Chris Eubank and Michael Watson was real reason that Michael got badly injured
Lot of little fellas involved in the substance enhancement process here 😂

True, and it's sad they both suffered the same fate , brain injury.

Mike mccallum beats benn easy thats why they didn't cross the pond and stayed in England eubank aswell.
