on the other hand, that thing can be genuinely broken... of any reason, from trivial "battery not charged" to defective chip and so on...
with a working speaker, a class A one transistor amplifier is the cheapest way to get some audible power at a resonable good audio quality. :)

Actually the amp, battery and speaker should be good. All it needs is a special wired cable. I’ve fixed a few with the same circuit board and it should work (the problems were lose wires and a dead resistor which resulted in less sound. (The power light should have came on)
