    The easy way. Find a stick get an old shirt cut it into strip tie it on to the the stick dip it then light it. Done in five minutes no aluminum no drills no screws no hack saws and it looks more real. Plus aluminum transfers heat way faster than steal but it is easier to drill a hole into it.

      he's showing an alternative. When your out in the woods of course a different method would be used. I liked this. Plan to test this steel VS aluminum. Next time I have a fire pit, I'm gonna grab a steel rod and an aluminum rod. Rummaging thru my garage I'll come up with both. Cut them same length and about the same thickness. We shall see, what we, shall see

      Aluminum transfers heat very quickly and loses it very quickly to the ambient air. Steel holds the heat longer.

    Protip: when you're pouring from gallon metal containers with the spout in a corner like that, you want to make sure the spout is at the top rather than the bottom when pouring, to reduce splashes and spills.

    I would suggest that although the Kevlar twin would last a bit longer but in theory it would be like a zippo lighter the twin would eventually burn off and you would have to change it and it would become dangerous if it where to come off when it’s lit so maybe some small flexible wire would be better

    Correction: Aluminum and steel are both metals, and they both conduct (transfer) heat. Aluminum dissipates heat, whereas steel retains it.

    In the UK it would probably be Turpentine or White Spirits. Never thought to use an Aluminium pole though (the hollow tube allowing air flow and keeping the whole thing cooler). We used to make these when i was a Kid (way back in the 1970's/80's) and just used sawn broomsticks and cut up sheets. of course, that's not the most controlled or safe way to go. ;-) Very nicely done.

  • @GameOHolicsGitTurntGud
    @GameOHolicsGitTurntGud 7 років тому

    the problem isn't so much that steel transfers heat, both steel and aluminum do. In fact aluminum transfers heat better! the problem is that steel RETAINS heat better. aluminum disperses the heat better than steel though.

  • @orvarg1066
    @orvarg1066 9 років тому

    umm aluminum transfers heat faster than steel , when was the last time you saw a steel heatsink? why do you think they make heatsinks out of aluminum?

    • @MnstrKhaos
      @MnstrKhaos 8 років тому +2

      the reason they make heatsinks out of aluminium is cause aluminium losses that "heat" fast, steel transfers the heat and keeps it for longer, therefor you'll burn your hands. meanwhile the aluminium will spread it and lose it before it gets hot enough to hurt you

    "aluminum dosent transfer heat"

    • @timothyreed7241
      @timothyreed7241 5 років тому +4

      You forgot to finish your statement "aluminum doesn't transfer heat slowly but actually transfers heat much quicker than steel." I'm sorry I added the apostrophe to "doesn't" but it is a contraction and so is needed to make an actual word. Aluminum does transfer heat, it actually transfers it so well that it would be very difficult to get a torch hot enough that the heat would radiate down the pipe causing it to heat up enough that one could no longer hold it. Anyone who has polished or ground down aluminum knows it gets hot very, very quickly. Also the bigger the piece of aluminum the longer it takes to heat up. Having this nice long pole with decent thickness means that any heat the aluminum takes on will be dissipated as it works its way down the pole thus resulting in a pole that is just barely above room temperature.
