I was one of the cameramen on this and I can honestly say that there wasn't a dry eye in the house after the Doddie film and acceptance on stage.. I know I was blubbing, we all were, as I was this evening, in my kitchen, when I heard the news on the radio. What a man he was..
Back here after Rob Burrow dying. Two absolute legends. Fantastic at their craft, lovely guys and incredibly brave and inspirational after their diagnosis. R.I.P heroes.
What an absolute inspiration Doddie is. It's an absolute shame that this will ultimately kill him, but he has most definitely brought much needed awareness and funds to this awful affliction that so many people suffer from.
Speaking as a NZer the tribute given to Doddie Weir on Remembrance Day at the 2022 test match All Blacks v Scotland will linger in the memory banks for a lifetime to come. RIP D W
God bless you doddie today I've learned of your passing. What an incredible man you are I have a Tear in my eye. You fought your illness with such dignity and respect much love big man you will Always have a place in my heart ♥ RIP Doddie Scotland will morn and the rest of the world will Too.
The world would be a much better place with more people like Doddie. Heartbreaking to see how this wicked disease is slowly taking hold. Doddie, what a legend and what a man!
A true gent an inspiration and a hero. Great rugby player and a lovely gent. Thank you for raising awareness of mind thank you for being you. You are missed but not ever forgotten
What a genuine inspiration the big man is ...I can't begin to imagine what he and his family are going through....his true grit and fight against this cruel cruel disease is just amazing...his attitude is something to behold....I want to wish him all the best in the world...may the road rise to meet you big man ☘️
Doddie - I don’t especially follow sports but even I understand the impact he’s left. An extraordinary legacy. And a fan in Princess Anne. As a sports woman in her own right, she is clearly fond of Doddie. When she took the award, probably thinking the Mike was off, and said, “I won’t give it to you, too heavy. Shall I hold onto it for you?”, before breaking into a delightful smile and joking, “You’re going to have to polish it!”. She genuinely looked after him on that stage. What an unlikely but amazing pair!
What a fucking legend! Huge respect bigman, a massive role model for kids in sport today! Feel for him and his family with what they will eventually have to go through! Xx
I saw him at a sports dinner just weeks before he announced he had MND. What a performance he put on. With that knowledge he just ripped into tbe crowd and non rugby people were in awe of him. I have some special pictures of him from that night.
It's very saddening to see this. I've read about Doddie but I've not seen any footage of him since his playing days. I only wish him days of happiness and to keep on going. X
RIP a real giant of a man in every sense of the word 🏴 Best excuse ever on lions tour ( Mistaken identity it was my father in the bar at 5am drinking) Go watch that clip unbelievable 😂🙏
Rest in peace Doddie ❤

A hero until the end. RIP. The 'Doddie Bus' (X62) still runs it's route today between Edinburgh and Galashiels. His legacy lives on to fight MND.
