I think booktube is over saturated with the same kind of content. I like watching channels that approach things differently and authentically for themselves rather than fueling the content machine. All this to say I enjoy your videos and reading pace and original thoughts! Don’t worry so much about making the best content compared to others.
As someone who just graduated and is going into Chinese to English translation and loves to read translations, I feel a good translation can make the biggest difference. I appreciate that you gave that translator some grace because sometimes translators don't have a say in how the author or editor wants something translated. Some want a more literal translation, while others go for a more readable translation. I think that is the biggest hurdle for literary translators, being able to convey the author's original tone and stick as closely to the original text as you can, while at the same time trying to keep it very readable and natural in the target language.
yay to find another translator on here!!! i think you're so right-i feel like to me, as both a reader and translator, keeping the reading experience as faithful as possible to the original (but not necessarily the language/text) is what's most important to me!
@@KateLee3 exactly! It's all about feeling for me. Like how does this make someone feel when they read it in the source language. How can I make people feel the same way in the target language? I'm also super excited to find your channel. I don't see many translators.
UA-cam recommended me this video on my yt page and I really liked you, really an honest vibe, hope it goes viral for you, I watched the ads to support your work 😊
eeeeep you’ve got me so excited for time of the flies! will def be a priority read for 2025!! excited to see what books end up being your top of the year ✨ also i love watching your vlogs & i am totally okay with you being a youtuber who loves books! i love when i come across youtubers that share other aspects of their lives but also love reading and talk about books thru out vlogs ❤️
I want to diverse my reading and pick up more literary books. This is the first video of you that i watched and you truely sold Claudia Piñeiro to me! I added her to my to read list of 2025.
Claudia Piñeiro is a one of my favourite authors. Pretty sure I've read almost all of her translated books. If you're looking for a similar author/book, try The Simple Art of Killing a Woman by Patrícia Melo. Not gonna lie, sometimes Melo hits the reader really hard over the head with the themes she's portraying 😅
she's quickly becoming one of my absolute faves as well! and the title already sounds so good i'll have to read that very soon :) thank you for the rec!!
I loooved Elena Knows and definitely want to read Piñeiro’s other books. Good to hear your thoughts on Time of the Flies! Also, I need to read Butter for a book club this month, and I’m already having mixed feelings. 🧈
YAYY love finding another piñeiro fan!! & oof i'd love to hear your thoughts on Butter, feel free to join our virtual book club too bc we're discussing it on jan 19th hehe
