They say there edible wonder how? Like breaded and shell on fried like soft shelled crabs? Or ya gotta crack em out? 🦀😂
In Italy they are well liked as soft shell ‘moleche’ and we are trying to develop a market here in New England for soft shell too. Because most are under 3” carapace for shard shell they are better for making seafood stock, though I also like them deep fried as they have a nice crispy texture and seafood flavor. They have decimated native soft shell clam populations in Maine and destroyed that fishery in the process, throwing the marine ecosystem into chaos.
They are neat looking, shame they're so invasive.
Macro-aggressive to call them invasive when they are migrant newcomers.
I hate how science classifies things as invasive...Invasive to who? I think we need to stop trying to control everything so much and learn to ADAPT like these creatures do. Without us, they STILL would find a way to get there...

I think you underestimate how strong human influence can be.
@@rainy729 I understand we influence it more, but in time, a piece of drift wood or something else would do the same thing. It’s inevitable things move, spread and evolve. God wrote it into our dna…evolution baby. We still need to learn to adapt more efficently.

Don't think anyone can tell for sure what would've happened naturally without human influence, but I feel like things wouldn't have been so drastically changed.
A piece of driftwood, or thousands of them, following currents and exposed to predation is completely different to a man-made vessel following specific courses and offering way more protection to these hitch hikers.
Things would not have been the same, most likely.
