young asian female artist here: your style tends to emphasize big, luminous, open eyes and long lashes, which are often not features of east asian faces and eyes. i love drawing big eyes, but when it comes to drawing east asians i pretty much have to restrain myself and make the eyes narrower, darker, and smaller with less pronounced eyelashes and eye creases (especially if the model has a monolid). east asian faces also tend to be flatter with less pronounced brow bones (compare asian faces to caucasian faces in profile and it’s very obvious). the bone structure of the face is just different. i love your art and i hope this helps!
I like this! I'm also an Asian artist, and it means a lot to see some great tips on drawing certain Asian features. Thanks for the tips - they were in great detail.
This comment was super helpful :D I’m a young black artist, and recently I’ve been trying to practice East Asian features so this comment was pure gold. Definitely screen-shoting this lol
I wouldn't say the Asian portrayals are super off, but there might be a few slight adjustments to the eyes could be made. The eye creases could be entirely removed if the original model has a monolid, less of the iris could be showing as the eyes are more narrow, and if the model doesn't have a monolid, maybe the lid crease could be rendered a bit more gently,, just maybe look at Asian features and compare them to your drawings and I bet you can do it!! Your style is just very opposite of Asian features, so I think some slight changes could fix everything. Overall beautiful video, I love hearing you give yourself praise, I usually avoid it because I'm so self critical and worry I'll just hate it eventually, so that made me feel more comfortable liking my work ❤️
I really appreciate your comment! As someone who is East Asian and an aspiring artist, it means a lot to have read your thoughts on drawing certain features. Especially when it comes to types of eyelids like monolids. Thank you for the detailed analysis, and I'm so glad to see that you like Sara's art as well.
What stands out to me about this video - aside from the beautiful illustrations - is how kindly you speak to yourself about your work. That's something that feels super foreign to me, and I think probably does for many artists. But it's so important to acknowledge all the little things you're proud of! So yeah, I just really appreciated seeing/hearing your thought process in that regard! ♥
Love the results! Personally, I don´t follow the rule of time in challenges, when I am tired is not fun or enjoyable so I STOP. So I would try the 100head but at MY pace, not in x days. It could took me a month or more, I do not care, because I have little time, but I am only challenging ME to finnish 100 objects :D It would be fun!
Hullo Sara, I enjoyed watching you in this video challenge! I am all for using fixative, but if you want to avoid the smell of the sprays. Use a very transparent watercolor paint! Choose a light wash in blue, red/pink, yellow or green! It seals the graphite on prevents transfer to the next page. It does not take much, but it works. I believe that you did a very fine job with the challenge. If you want to concentrate on Asian faces, construction of the eye shape and cheekbones is most important. You will accomplish any tasks that you are willing to spend the time doing! I do believe you can do anything you set out to do! It may sound odd coming from a relative stranger but I and many others believe in YOU! Be safe and take care. See ya next video!
Amazing. I think I haven't watched your videos in 3 years. UA-cam finally recommended this one. The production quality has improved tremendously, and so has your drawing! This is really great! I loved the video
I do this challenge every summer, I'm currently on day 7! I usually set a time limit but I'm still really proud of them and can always see the improvement!
Wow, just wow. Thank you so much for sharing this process with all its ups and downs. It really shows how all the beautiful art in the world didn't just appear effortlessly, it requires hard work. I love your drawing style, your hard work does pay off 😃
amazing, It's crazy how good all of them look....my anxiety would be through the roof on day one so I commend anyone who attempts this or finishes it. I'd definitely recommend a size 3 lead, it works out perfectly for smaller detailing.
You’re so amazing and gifted it’s actually insane. Every time I see you draw no matter the medium but especially w a pencil of all things, you blow my mind!!!!! I just love your channel and love how you draw people. So so so amazing!
I started this challenge some time ago but I got immediately discouraged by the references probably because I was drawing them too big and I got too caught up in all the details of the face. BUUUT! this video is making me want to try it again!
Just found you. I'm doing this challenge as well. It's taking me a lot longer than 10 days. I also pulled other references from my camera roll. My real goal is to do better with shading and proportions. I'm self taught. I love your calming voice.
I did this challenge last year, and this makes me want to try it again, I think it helps to practice but also to improve your personal style, last time I just used the references they provide but I like this version more. I didn't enjoy the sculpture in the original since they were already altered and I think there should of been more diverse faces.
This challenge is so great. It's amazing how the process changes as the days goes on. I did this 3 years ago I think, but now I'm thinking on doing it again, but very stylized
Woahh, Sara, this was so wonderful to watch!! Thanks for sharing the process! It's very clear how your drawings improved after you changed to the .3 pencil, even if they already looked very beautiful before. I'm excited to try this challenge as well now!
you're encouraging me to do this again lol. I had such a hard time and I really wanted to finish but I gave up because there was a lot of days where I had to catch up because there was some days when I couldn't finish. But seriously making me want to do it again looooool
i was just listening to you talk about how hard it was to draw asian women and then i saw JIMIN, you did amazing. these look recognisable, lively, and beautiful. dont forget you are doing amazing!
Wow, young lady, you are a very good artist and at first I was like what? Why don't you like your sketches,? But then I got it and saw how you did improve in the likeness. So I have started this project too. It took mw 2 days to draw 10 heads. I am defiantly gonna set a timer because I do feel we can get caught up in the details, but I can't help myself. I can't wait to see the growth in my drawing and thanks so much for sharing your thoughts on this process. I really appreciate your honesty. You are a love, and I can't wait til the next video, All the best!
You seem to beat yourself up a lil. Honestly, your drawing were amazing. I see the different on when you started and how you ended. You seem to have learn a great deal..thank you for letting us see your journey very inspiring.
That was super cool to watch! I love your sketches, especially your mark making. I tend you use more blending for shadows, and your video inspired me to try hatching as well! I did this challenge about two years ago, and I'm curious to see how I've progressed, and if I can improve some more! I might even try it with watercolour this time. Thank you for your Pinterest board as well, it'll give me a bit of variety!
I loved watching you draw. Personally, I'd have to change the challenge a lot to participate happily and sustainably. So, I'm still undecided. But I enjoyed your video a lot regardless. 💛
Go for it!! The base of the challenge is this, but for example I drew 1 head a day to keep myself interested and healthy throughout. It's still a challenge that way, but it is more suited to me! Make it yours and go for it
Congratulations on finishing the 100 Heads challenge! 💜It must have been so rewarding to have drawn such a wide range of subject matter, including elderly people! One of my former art teachers has participated in this challenge, and I think you and her did the same face as the first one at 4:21 - how cool is that?
Such an amazing spread! I started to do this challenge digitally but I gave up lol. I may try again traditionally because pencil feels so good right now
Your work is amazing! Seems effortless to me. I got a similar idea from a different channel about doing Five Portraits a Day, which I started on May 26 this year. Just found out about #100 Faces a few days ago. I'm continuing with my Five a Day but using the references from the 100 Faces challenge in my cheap sketchbook. Similar to you (and others whose 100 Faces videos I've watched) I find myself improving radically, especially using a photo reference. BTW, I am a stark beginner on doing art from life. Just started doing faces and expressions this past April and have enjoyed stretching this aspect of my creativity a lot. Out of dozens and dozens of portraits, I've managed to do two portraits that actually look like the reference LOL But my proportions and perspective are improving quickly and I'm happy with my progress. Happy to find a source of 100 heads! Maybe some day I'll use Ahmed's Pinterest board to follow up on the 100/10 Day Challenge. Meanwhile I'm just tootling along with my Five Portraits a Day. thank you for this video. It's encouraging to watch other artists in whatever endeavors they're pursuing.
lovely video and great art! i just wish that the video would be showing the face that you are talking about on the voice over so it's easier to see what you are saying about the drawing itself
I’ve never been able to set aside the time to do this challenge - there’s always some day where I’m busy all day. But hopefully I’ll have time this summer after graduation
I like how you drew more older faces in the second half of drawings ... and i also noticed a baptized sikh man ( no. 93 ) you drew .... thanks to you i have ordered a sketchbook specially to draw faces .. maybe call it a Book of Faces ? 🤔😂😂
Hello Sara, When you did this challenge were your skills in drawing on different body parts like arms, hands, etc. were degraded at some point? Cuz 10 days of drawing Only heads makes you not draw the other parts of the human stuff... srry for the english
I feel this! I could draw old men with 10m long beards and wrinkles for days just fine but asian people always looked like they were possesed or smth ;-;
idk why u think the asian girls dont look asian, they look fine to my eye? are u maybe thinking in a stereotypical way, expecting the features to be exaggerated or characaturish? bc honestly they do look asian and match well to the references
Truth is they don’t actually look very Asian. But that’s a given in art. If you look at most professional artists for video games and other things, they barely draw Asian women looking Asian except for the black straight hair.
@@MeiHeart1 if the models are asian and u drew the models how they look (which she did) then they look asian. How else would they "look asian" ? Stereotypical features like monolids and flatter faces? Nit every asian person looks like a stereotype
Your struggle with drawing asian girls is exactly what I have with white people, I guess its because I'm asian myself and somehow it affects my drawings no matter how hard I try💀
Seems to me this is of limited usefulness, since the faces are so similar. Looks like headshots of models and actors. Mostly young pretty boys and girls all from basically the same angle. Even the few older ones looked like character actors. You need to mix it up more, with various ages and degrees of attractiveness, and especially with views of the head from lots of different angles and levels of foreshortening . A good exercise might be to take one person you know, and do quick sketches of them from every imaginable angle. Then apply that knowledge to your headshot models, and see if you can keep the likeness.

The way you just draw the head, then blend all the features in is so mind boggling lol your art always looks like faerie lights 🥰
Incredible job. That shading is serious artgoals
Every single sketch is so unique.

Also, the super smooth blending without using your finger or a stump? I’m in awe
Wow, just wow. Thank you so much for sharing this process with all its ups and downs. It really shows how all the beautiful art in the world didn't just appear effortlessly, it requires hard work. I love your drawing style, your hard work does pay off 😃
It’s so cool to see all the different types of people in your style. Great job on finishing the challenge! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
These are amazing!! I love to hear to talk about and describe your art and your mark making!
Merci ! C'était très motivant. Je vais essayer de faire un challenge de 100 fleurs.
Wow I’m so impressed you finished it! And it’s crazy that you drew for 25 hours 😱😱👏 thanks for doing this so we can see what’s it’s like!
amazing, It's crazy how good all of them look....my anxiety would be through the roof on day one so I commend anyone who attempts this or finishes it. I'd definitely recommend a size 3 lead, it works out perfectly for smaller detailing.
Amazing work!! I love every single face you´ve drawn. And I love your strokes so much.
Your pinterest board is so useful! I'd been thinking of tackling the challenge but had the same complaints of the original references chosen.
You’re so amazing and gifted it’s actually insane. Every time I see you draw no matter the medium but especially w a pencil of all things, you blow my mind!!!!! I just love your channel and love how you draw people. So so so amazing!
Thank you for sharing your thoughts and tips!
Beautiful artwork my friend, hope you have a super day.
I have so much respect for you. First of all: you did it, and you did it beautifully
ooh yay 🤩i was so excited seeing this! i'm gonna be doing the 100 heads challenge in june and watching this was so motivating!
Beautiful sketches ❤ you absolutely nailed this challenge 👏🏻
I started this challenge some time ago but I got immediately discouraged by the references probably because I was drawing them too big and I got too caught up in all the details of the face. BUUUT! this video is making me want to try it again!

I love to watch these videos and see how other ppl approach to this challenge :D
You've inspired me to try this challenge. You're portraits were amazing.

This is so gen z in terms of style 😂 nice work, you can defo draw well that’s for sure.

Far out Sara! You have an amazing talent! Nuff Said :) x
All looks beautiful
I'm obcessed with your background! It's so gorgeous! (and so are you :3)
So much footage. Pretty drawings. I want to do this challenge again, but I can't see me recording it all the way through.
They looked pretty Asian to me 😅
Loved watching your process!
These are amazing

You are so good
I like how you drew more older faces in the second half of drawings ... and i also noticed a baptized sikh man ( no. 93 ) you drew .... thanks to you i have ordered a sketchbook specially to draw faces .. maybe call it a Book of Faces ? 🤔😂😂

Hello! it is ok to use your Pinterest board for the challenge?
Where do you find your reference photos?
Hello Sara,
When you did this challenge were your skills in drawing on different body parts like arms, hands, etc. were degraded at some point?
Cuz 10 days of drawing Only heads makes you not draw the other parts of the human stuff... srry for the english
Was I the only one to notice u did jimin
Armys go to 8:20 to look at jiminie's drawing 💜
I feel this! I could draw old men with 10m long beards and wrinkles for days just fine but asian people always looked like they were possesed or smth ;-;
希望有正常速度版的
this is really cool! but i kinda just wanted to comment that you sound like Millie Bobby Brown
Rito games when going to join
You kinda sound like Millie Bobby Brown :0

the problem you have with drawing asian features probably comes from same face syndrome and lack of understanding asian features
if you can draw an asian boy, drawing an asian girl isn't that far off. just a matter of more observation and trials.
Zu schnell leider!🤔
Asian girls are easy to draw like they already in 2D ( my bad)
