All of these people seem very nice. They deserve a better system!
I'm from Germany, it is forbidden by government to exploit people that much here.

I did the same, admittedly on accident, by taking a job overseas. Best thing that's ever happened to me. My life is better, I work only 20 hours a week. Even though I earn less than 1/2 the average American wage, income tax and cost of living is so low that my disposable income and savings are more than Americans making twice as much. I pay $400/month for a ~1000 square foot flat a developed Nordic country, I have a car with no car loan, basically 0 debt, I can take vacations whenever I want, and work from anywhere. I've travelled more than 20 countries, and get to do the kind work that I love the most - without the stress, drama, bills, and toxic work culture of the meanest, most violent country on earth.

My father had predicted back in the early 80s that many Americans will one day be emigrating from their country because it was becoming obvious to him that America was simply not the greatest country in the world anymore. And since things have only gotten worse in America since then, his predictions seem to be coming true.

Wow ,so many people who know the perfect way of living and making it in the world dropping comments. One thing could change the course of anyone's life. No one is perfect, no one makes the right decisons 100% of the time, not everyone has the same opportunities as another. Being cruel and judgemental is of no help to anyone.

    • @georgfriedrichhandel4390

michelle Richardson And the other assumption many people make is that everyone has the same opportunities in life. I find it very narcissistic to hear some people say, "if I can do it, so can everyone else". I agree that we should take advantage of every opportunity we're given and if we don't then we only have ourselves to blame but the reality is that some people are more fortunate than others and we don't always control our fate.

***** The economic downturns are inflating prices /wages which are in turn inflating job requirements with each minimum wage hike. I'm trying to understand why a service job, such as a Barista at Starbucks are conducting employment biases that requires an associates degree. I understand catering to our college students, as there is hardly any professional entry level jobs out there in enough numbers for both graduates, unemployed professionals with work-history and immigrating professionals. This kind of employment practices however eliminates a vast majority of low-skilled workers that in essence these kinds of jobs used to be for and aren't particularly hard to do.
There used to be a time in which a high school diploma could support a livable standard--granted that this was largely achievable with our manufacturing sector that exist no-more. However, if this is no longer true--if a high school diploma can no longer provide the basic standard of living without having to resort to assistance programs I think there should be a more financed option, along with editing our academic process for transitioning high-schoolers directly into college.

You got it backwards. Collectivist policies are the very thing that's causing this situation. The fact of the matter is that small and medium sized companies are the main employers, so when the government kills those businesses this is what you get.
just take a look at how the US is getting progessively worse as each new administration adds it's own regulations......
Also, these people are in the situation they are in because of their own stupid choices, it's been proven in study after study that all you have to escape poverty in the US is:
      1. Get a high school degree
      2. Keep your first job for at least a year.
      3. Don't have kids in your early twenties, before you're married....

Wages need to exceed the cost of living. I saw on another documentary that a full time working mother made less than $20000 a year!! What a disgrace.
Also tips should be abolished. You should pay your staff a living wage and not rely on your customers to pay your employee's wage. The concept of tipping is so outdated and a total disrespect to the staff. Tip should be only an option if you want to give a tip to applaude great service but the staff should be paid an appropriate living wage to begin with.

However, noone gave her an ultimatum so she did not go to school. Now as she is getting older this is weighing down on her. She is very poor, almost illiterate, and her only hope is Jesus and she jumps from one chrch to another. Touth: please be careful with what you do with your lives. Study hard.

Try living in an African or Asian country. Or a highly social democratic country like Denmark, where they take 60% of your wages but pretty much everyone gets by. Take your pick.

Public education is missing two important things; money is never mentioned in twelve years of education and yet money is an important factor in every decision you make in life. Also accounting and how to start a business is never mentioned. The two things the establishment don’t want you to know about; how to handle money and God’s Word. If you don’t teach those things then they must not be important. That is so wrong!

Before all of our jobs left and went to Mexico and China. These were the jobs that you had in high school. You received
Minimum wage because it was your first job. This is where you learned the importance of being on time and showing up.
Even in Silicon Valley, these are the jobs that Mexican immigrants take, not teens. It's hard for teens to get work and learn basic skills.
These kinda jobs don't make good money because no skills are required. The poor people in this video would have been in jobs
Like skilled factory workers. Building cars or other things. It's very sad how things have gotten. It will only get worse when self driving

In America there is a separate, lower minimum wage for people who work at restaurants / bars that is only $2.13 per hour. They assume customers will leave tips greater than the regular minimum wage. She's struggling because her restaurant has low prices and so the 15% tipped is not a lot of money. Plus people can choose not to tip at all if they don't like her. Expensive restaurants usually have 20% tip mandatory added to the bill and expensive alcohol which inflates the final total so those waitresses can make $100k / year easily.

Life is hard, but if you didn't have a good education, qualifications or skills that are in demand, it's never going to be easy for the majority of these people unfortunately. Their options are limited and thus, what they can ever earn so they're going to be more vulnerable to becoming homeless or struggling on benefits. A good education might not get you the dream job, but it does give you options and you are more likely to have a well paid job, able to save and less likely to find yourself on benefits or homeless. A good start in life can make a huge difference in the quality of life you go on to lead. If you're from a poor family on benefits you're more likely to follow in the same footsteps. There are always exceptions.

By that token men should never fall in love with and marry single mothers, regardless of their good qualities. There's an ideal path in life (college, then job, then marriage, then kids) but it doesn't always work out like that. Not all single parents are idiots, circumstances can change and kids need to be with the parent who can best look after them. In fact it speaks volumes about the guy's character, as it's usually mothers who are awarded custody. I'm observing this as someone who has never had children and chooses not to throw stones or grudge others less fortunate the cost education and public leisure facilities.

Compare them with India, children in India are quite privileged in a sense to get free or subsidized education, except harsh filthy and smelly surroundings in Govt run education institutions. That's ridiculous, the fact of the matter is that those athletes decide to put all their eggs in one basket. Basketball requires you the place a lot of strain on your body, this means that the likelihood of injury becomes much higher.
This is something one has to take into consideration when picking a career. He decided that he didn't need any additional insurance in the form of learned skills which he could fall back on if something does go wrong, which is how he got into the situation he is in right now.

And I also don't see why the NCAA shouldn't be making money off of them? After all, the same demand that makes those profits possible also makes their scholarships possible in the first place..... The only silly thing about this is that people are getting into college even though their grades and knowledge are not sufficient, sports shouldn't count when accepting applications

However, pls note that in this era is abt working smart NOT hard. My god, having 2 jobs, several children, no tertiary education and expect to own a property? That place is NOT Madagascar, it's United States of America. Like Tom Leykis said, these ppl are "spinning their wheels" at best.

    • @saturn_in_blue
      @saturn_in_blue 6 років тому +3

You are right about smart. The problem is, 90% of people aren't smart, and a society that doesn't reward hard work will leave most people spinning their wheels in dead end jobs for their entire life. A system like this isn't sustainable, and America will pay an ever increasing economic and social cost for it's failure to create opportunity for the 'average' person. Smart people can succeed almost anywhere, it's the fact that average people who worked hard could also be successful that made America so wealthy in the past. Now, that time is gone, and America is slipping into irreversible decline.

Some salutary context: many previous generations of manual unskilled workers all over the western world dug coal, slogged on the land and took low income factory jobs etc in order to live. Would the present generation of workers swap their jobs for these? I think not, particularly as the previous generations died young and struggled through the ill effects of their back breaking occupations. So, either these sad present day workers accept their lot in life or they aspire and work toward changing their lives. This is life. Wake up and smell the coffee.
