Awesome man. Glad you made this video. Lot of boat guys give me a hard time for being on big water or out with my daughter, but they really are quite impressive. Always important to consider the fact that accidents do happen and to be aware of what can cause them, which is why testing your boat like you did in this video is such a good idea. It is good to note that in rough, windy conditions the same movements that didn't flip the kayak here will at those times. That's the experience part of kayaking that we gain from years of fishing and spending time on the water. Knowing your own limits and the boat's limits are the key to safety and success out there.
Excellent demo Nat. I have a P 13. I knocked a rod over the side last year and didn't even think about it. I just reached over and grabbed it before it sunk. It isn't the fastest fishin Yak out there, but I'm sure comfortable in mine.
I think everyone when they first get their kayak should tip it on purpose. Good sit-on-tops are more stable than new kayakers understand. Good demostration.
I agree. We always do this sort of test with every new kayak we buy. It's important to know how the kayak reacts to your movements and what it can handle so you aren't caught off guard when presented with adverse conditions.
I've been floating and fishing my predator mx for five years and haven't accidently flipped it yet. It's a great boat but a little heavy at 80 lbs empty. Hitting the Buffalo River in May for a week long camping/floating trip. Can't wait.
I feel the same way about my PDL120. I wish it was lighter, but I do appreciate how solid it is and how the heavier weight adds to the stability and low center of gravity. The Predator MX is a nice balance, in my opinion, but it can be too heavy for some trips.
Finally was able to pick up a kayak! 2021 was a pain to purchase one, so I just snagged one of these predator mx kayak when i was notified in stock. I was torn between this and sportsman, so hopefully when it arrives in a few weeks I choose well.
Both are great kayaks. I have a Sportsman 120 PDL but still choose the MX for certain situations. Several of my friends have used the MX and every one of them has loved it. The only drawback for me with the MX (or any other heavy kayak) is not being able to put it on my shoulder and carry it anywhere. It's fairly heavy and the handles aren't designed for shoulder-carrying. You can still carry it overhead like a canoe though if you needed to.
I got a Sportsman 120 paddle and I like it a lot. I was considering getting one of these Predators too for something that moves a little quicker. Is it worth getting a Predator? Money not a real concern.
I have a Predator MX and a Sportsman 120PDL. I plan to keep both of them for a long time, as well as my Perception Hook for smaller water bodies that require carrying a kayak to. The Predator is probably a bit faster than the Sportsman 120 paddle-drive model, but I don't know that it would be enough of a difference to justify buying and storing both.
The proper length of your paddle depends on your height. A wider kayak like a Predator also requires a bit longer paddle. I use a 230cm paddle and I'm 5'10". If you're taller, go a bit longer with your paddle length.
@@FishingwithNat I'm 5', 11", so 230cm seems good to me. Are there any accessories that you would recommend that I really should have to start with that haven't been included in the base model? BTW, your videos are very fun to watch, and are easy to absorb. Have you ever been fishing in my home state of Maine? It has many beautiful locations to enjoy, and lots of Salt/Freshwater fish to catch.
@@stormcry8202 I'd recommend watching this video I made about my Sportsman PDL last year that shows you all of the accessories I've added to it. It will give you a good idea what might make sense for your style of fishing. Most of the accessories will apply to a Predator as well. I've never been to Maine but I want to go some day!

Absolutely. Well said.

Thanks for the comment. It's a great kayak and the price is pretty reasonable for such a versatile boat.

Thanks for the review!!!!! Great info!
Of course. Thanks for the comment.
Great video, thanks!

Thanks. It's always fun to see what fishing kayaks are capable of.
That's cool man! what do you think a 120 brand new or a predator mx for 1000 used?
1000 is a good price for a used Predator MX in good condition. By 120 do you mean a different model like a Sportsman 120 or Topwater 120?
What length paddle should I use for one of these. I'm just about to pull the trigger on one, but I'd rather get another opinion before I buy one. :)

I turned around and put my knee in the seat, to get a water bottle from behind the seat, and capsized. Beats me🤷🏻♂️
Shoot. Did you put your knee on the edge of the seat or lean to the side while you were kneeling?
We all laughed when you flipped
Thanks for watching!
Put a foot pedal motor on that thing. I need ideas
Sounds like a fun idea to me!
