  • Home made tire shear cutting a 12 ply tractor tire. I made this from junk, the pivots and pin are from an old backhoe bucket and the frame is built from 3" x 5" I beam that I reinforced with flat bar.

Verry interesting. I'm building one that mounts on my skid steer bucket. I was going to use a cutting edge like off an excavator bucket but some one gave me some shaper and harder cutting edges. Wish me luck!

When you cut the tires up can you take them to the landfill?

Nice only thing id cjange is making it longer to cut across both sides at once.

this just shows that you do not have to spend $33,000 for a tire shear. Build it yourself.

how many gpm and at what psi is your hydraulic pump and what motor are you using to power it?
also what type of steel are you using for the shear, i hear D2 is the go to shear material?
    thankyou.

Jacob S we were using a skid steer to power it. I can't remember the designation on the steel for the blades, but it was the same thing you use for excavator buckets where the teeth mount. It would've been better had it been a bit harder.

I never even made a drawing, lol. I built a crude scale model to figure out where I needed to mount the ram in relation to the pivot, but other than that I just did it from ideas I had in my head. I’d do several things differently if I did it again.
