  • In this video, you will learn about the Li-Fi Technology, which is the abbreviation of the term Light Fidelity.
    So, in this video, we will see how Li-Fi technology works, what are the advantages of this Li-Fi over other wireless communication technologies like Wi-Fi and 4G/LTE, and what are the applications of this Li-Fi.
    What is Li-Fi?
    Li-Fi is light based bi-directional, fully networked, wireless communication technology, where the light source is used to transmit the data wirelessly.
    By turning LED light On and Off very rapidly (Millions time per seconds), we can transmit the data wirelessly.
    Advantages of Li-Fi over other Technologies:
    1) Speed: Li-Fi has the capability to provide speed up to 100 Gbps (Max .Recorded speed is 224 Gbps !!!)
    2) Security: As light can not cross the walls, so data cannot be hacked by outsiders and hence it provides one more layer of security
    3) Safety: Unlike radio waves, exposure to light is safer for human beings
    4) Congestion free: The bandwidth of light spectrum is 1000 times more than radio spectrum and hence it is congestion free as well as free of electromagnetic interference
    Applications of Li-Fi:
    Although Li-Fi is futuristic technology, once it will be commercially available there are many applications of this technologies
    1) Hospitals
    2) Underwater Communication
    3) Vehicular communication
    4) High-speed internet through street lights
    The time stamps for the different topics in the video is given below:
    0:20 What is Li-Fi ??
    0:50 How Li-Fi works? (Principle of Li-Fi technology)
    3:10 Advantages of Li-Fi technology
    6: 30 Applications of Li-Fi
    This video will be helpful to everyone in understanding the concept of Li-Fi.

    Very good video on Li-Fi. Li-Fi technology has another drawback : We are using light switched ON to communicate, thus meaning electrical consumption.

      The LED lights are already in use for lighting, so actually the tech means less energy consumption rathre than more. Because the flashing would cut down the consumption.

    How do we receive data on our smart phone ?

    • @ALLABOUTELECTRONICS
      @ALLABOUTELECTRONICS  5 років тому +2

      The phones should have a photosensitive receiver (Like photodiode) to receive those signals.
      And I think it can be fitted on the front side of the phone, much like an ambient light sensor. Or it may attached separately to the phone.

    But i have question that when a lifi dongle kept under more than one lifi transmitter led light then there may inter meshing of data those will transmitted by the dongle to the led light or that may be fluctuation or connectivity.
    Please reply...

    • @ALLABOUTELECTRONICS
      @ALLABOUTELECTRONICS  7 років тому +8

      Like in the case of Wi-Fi, as some standards are defined, (IEEE 802.11) for Li-Fi communication also some standards are defined. (e.g IEEE visible light communication standard). And if you see these standards, each device has its own unique physical address. So, even if there are more than one LEDs in the room, dongle exactly knows to which LED bulb it is communicating by specifying the address before transmitting. So, even if second LED bulb receives that data, it will not participate in that communication, as its address is different. And same is true if multiple dongles exist in the room.
      I hope it will help you.

    What is the purpose of using RGB LED's ?? ...and the video is helpful ✌

    • @ALLABOUTELECTRONICS
      @ALLABOUTELECTRONICS  7 років тому +4

      Using RGB LEDs in the single source we can increase the bandwidth (and hence data rate ) of the source. Using different colors of LEDs, we can transmit data on each color (wavelength) LED. So, we can achieve 3X data rate using this technique. One more thing, when this technique is used then at the receiver side also you require RGB color filter which can distinguish three colors.

    • @utkarshsrivastav6693
      @utkarshsrivastav6693 6 років тому

      RGB increases bandwidth without interference and sometimes it may be used as contingency bandwidth source(very special cases).e.g. there is red light already present in background so receiver will be deceived so it will use other two colour LED.

    Why the lifi technology doesn't used in the mobile phone

  • @td3993
    @td3993 2 роки тому

    Aside from offering a low interference data transmission method, using the acronym "li-fi" for optical data transmission is rather dumb. It's stealing from hi-fi, which is the abbreviation for "high fidelity." Light fidelity would best refer to the color accuracy and spectral completeness of an illumination soure, not an optical data transmission system. I'm also really not sure why wireless data transmission is referred to as Wi-Fi other than because it sounds trendy and cool.

    I have some concern with Li-fi technology.
    One can use Li-fi as an alternative to Wifi Technology but they can't replace Long coverage Radio Waves based Towers.
    Since, Li-fi uses Visible Light Frequency and we all are surrounded by Visible Light sources all around. So I think the receiver end may take some wrong Inputs also Signal Interception will be much easier and to me it's less secured.
    Imagine a Scenario, A pulsating light is being sent from the source. Even if the light is pulsating too much but some cheap technology one can certainly see the Pulsating light, Since we have CMOS chips which can detect Visible light so if Slowed down enough can be traced.
    What you people think??
    I have many other points as well.

    wheather it has any disadvantage ?

    • @ALLABOUTELECTRONICS
      @ALLABOUTELECTRONICS  7 років тому +1

      The only disadvantage is its range. As it uses visible light source and light can not penetrate walls, so the range is limited to the room only. Second, the high speeds which are achieved in the labs are under certain conditions, like light source and receiver should be in the line of sight. So, if they are not in the line of sight then speed might reduce. Let's say you are receiving scattered light, but in that case, too it will provide better speed than Wi-Fi.
