Ask Benoit if he has any scarps of the same wood. Create test samples with the wood scraps. That is the best way to know how each finish will look like on the beautifully crafted bespoke cabinet.

I prefer the less busy fabric with more of the white background. It feels more modern and matches the style of other parts of the house. Light and bright against all the dark walls.

Yes to the darker/ multi colours for the headboard! The other versions could be for cushions, but I'd say if you're having curtains that darker version would be perfect there too. Can't wait to see the finished result...❤

you can definitely sand back a stained wood to it's natural colour. Specially if it's oil base, the stain sits on the surface of the wood. It's not absorbed deep under the surface. A medium grit (80-100) and a bit of elbow grease or an orbital sander will do the job.

Sailboat owner here! I definitely would not want to paint that beautiful wood vanity base either (Benoit is a true craftsman!). I highly recommend a few coats Epifanes Clear Gloss Varnish (which is really polyurethane) to waterproof it (and as a bonus has UV protection, since the bathroom has a lot of natural light), followed by a few coats of Epifanes Wood Finish Matte on top to tone done the gloss (which is brilliant because you do not have to sand between coats if you reapply within 72 hours.) It's made for boats, and a great product!

I’d bring in the other bathroom elements before deciding about staining the vanity or not. Even laying things (like the faucets, the marble, the paint options, the hardware, the mirrors, the light fixtures, etc) out before installation could be helpful in deciding what you like best.
Wood is so beautiful that it is always tempting to leave it natural, but Benoit’s craftsmanship will shine regardless.

The more modern Matisse print looks wonderful for a headboard. I would use the 2 tone as throw pillows and put some linen colored fringe around the edges - maybe add a Ziggy color into the throw pillows to coordinate? Love the aesthetic of the room so far. 🥰 And that vase with all the holes is one of my favorites because you can put wrapped bunches of blossoms in each hole and it looks fabulous and the stems stay upright.

I think a pale turquoise to complement the bedroom ...just 10-20 shades lighter for the bathroom paint...like the Aegean Sea in the shallows. A marine theme with seashells around and marine rope around mirrors and maybe some furniture would make Phillip happy too! A painting with seagulls flying over a sailboat on the ocean & surf in the foreground would make him super happy I'd wager.

Osmo oil protects wood but it isn’t completely waterproof. It does allow you the time to clean up any spills etc before the water does damage to the wood. Also as I said I love the fact it doesn’t change the original colour of the the natural wood as other products do. We used it on our internal oak doors 3 years ago and they are still the original colour. Would highly recommend.

I prefer the print with less layers. I like that it looks a bit more modern and you really notice the overall design. You and Phillip have done a masterful job of blending modern and vintage elements in each of your rooms. The simpler design looks like a wonderful combination of yours and Phillip’s design sensibilities. (You’re incredibly talented, Anna!) The multi layered one while beautiful, is very busy for the space. I think you can still incorporate some other colors including some beautiful ziggy colored accents! 😉 He really does look great in that space! Can’t wait to see what you decide and how it all comes together!

  • @CarmenShenk

I vote to stain the bathroom vanity and ebony black. The wood grain will shine through, oak is very good for that. The high contrast color will be beautiful with the muted neutral tones you’ve already chosen for that room and will be gorgeous with the tub. Besides, if you’ve found a wall color you like, don’t start questioning that again.
I also vote for the one color leaf calligraphy fabric rather than the two tone leaf. It reminds me of the classic cobalt and white pottery, though of course it’s not blue. So it looks classic, modern, and very calligraphic. I think it’s your best one yet! And it will be gorgeous with a Ziggy colored cushion nearby!

I admire your visions and talents. As far as the headboard fabric is concerned, while they are both lovely, I like the second sample better than the first against the stark blue of the walls.

You are such a wonderful creator and artist. Can’t wait till some of these things that YOU created come to the commercial market. I patiently wait. The second print for the headboard will look fantastic.

Put a satin-finish of clear shellac on that GORGEOUS oak cabinet to retain it's natural color - and change the wall color!! It will pop so majestically against the floor tiles after the protection sheet comes up. Amazing work on the fabric! 💜

Go with the dark stain. It matches better with all other design choices for that room. They make lots of that beautiful wood -to be used on next project.

The natural wood is so lovely.Depending on your choice of effect re material - the darker print gives a cosier look ,the lighter background gives a fresher look. Both beautiful.😄🎉

I love watching the process of making fabric! Great job, Anna🙌🏼
For bathroom furniture: I say stain it and keep the wall color!
For the headboard color: I say the darker one with more pattern! It’ll be an eye catcher in the room 😍

Ana, I LOVE that you're designing your fabric. You are my hero. I can never find the fabric designs ( that are in my head) anywhere and it's so frustrating. I started to create my own in a much, much more simplified way (stencils & fabric paint) not nearly as creative as your designs, but still, it was fun & satisfying.
My vote on the headboard fabric was for the darker one.

Loved: 1. "Funky not sure", 2. Ziggy colored cushions, and 3. Your fabric!! Luscious! I'd go with the 2 tone one, but they're both gorgeous.

Definately black colour will compliment the floor plus the interior full of light needs some statement point, as for the headboard - lighter one and Ziggy-coloured throws. Again impressed and inspired by your talent and ideas :)

I love that you’re using ancient methods with modern material to create your own line of fabrics to go along with your wallpapers. Talk about a side hustle, you could make a full line of your chateau papers & fabrics. Then partner with a company who’d produce them. Would be wonderful.

I’d love the natural finish on the vanity but darker walls for contrast. I imagine navy blue would look lovely and maybe nautical. You have so much light, the options are limitless. It’s just gorgeous so far.

I love that you ask. I would use the single color "Matisse" for the head board, and use the second print for long light-blocking drapes. Throw pillows using Ziggy's beautiful color. Thank you for encouraging all those who may be a bit timid, but desire to craft.
