- On this kayak catfishing trip, I used a combination of live and cut bait while drift fishing. It was a fun morning of fishing with several fish being caught including some big blue cats.

I use big bullheads and little channel cats they seem to work pretty well big flatheads love them
I saw an old man fishing off the dock, at the boat ramp there one day. He was fishing for them with soap 🧼, and catching them one after another!
Next time you get a channel that size you should do a fish head comparison. Your favorite white bass head on left, channel head on right. The winning bait coild then be poured in resin and wow! What a collectorthat would be.

I like an abu style reel for catfishing but use avets,accurate and seigler for offshore fishing so I get it man!

Thanks for your videos. I’ve fished from my kayak, mainly for bass for 4+ years. Going to try your methods to fish for big cats. In our area we have big channels and flatheads in local lakes. Added Scotty rod holders and depth finder to my yak. Even bought some Sumo circle hooks.

Diawa =quality in any size kind and price point. I've got BG, 40 yr old reel just like yours, and a 1000 ultra light Strikeforce($19.00) that retrieve and drag that is smooth as silk.
Justin.. Im surprised the channel didnt get eatin.. a few years back i had a 17inch walleye on a stringer and all the sudden the stringer took off and here it was a 34inch channel trying to eat it . Im from PA

That fishing period .... you have downtime but that's what keeps you coming back for more , if it was trophy fish after trophy fish you'd get bored and quit after a month ~
I would love to try a baitcaster that has the same specs as the ones that you have except I would like a automatic line guide and a counter and a clicker and then I'll try a baitcaster.
The penn squall is a comparable reel may not take up as much line. Or the diawa seagate or sealine not sure if they are levelwind though

Ah man it would be awesome if you still had the hook and leader from the time you caught 2 cats on 1 hook. That was so awesome! I went trout fishing last week and busted a garter snake eating my trout I had on a stringer!

I think its due to the fact that the baits are directly below the boat, the bait won't be fighting the 10/0 hook the whole time and stay kicking longer
