Thanks for watching. This trimmer has been so badly abused that there were so many problems to look at. The biggest one was the trimmer head and the easiest solution was to replace it with a universal one. - Авто та транспорт
Those older Shindaiwas are great machines. The one featured in this video my have been abused, but it still has a lot to offer.
i believe you are absolutely correct about that. thanks for the comment
Yeah they are good tools
This is the best trimmer I have ever had I bought it in 1995 and the bearing just went in the trimmer head that and some fuel lines this year are the only issues I have ever had . It starts on the second pull and runs flawlessly.
nice testimonial. Thank you Michael Haigh
My grandpa had one of these bought brand new im 1995 and was only used monthly for around the 5 acre property but it's just been sitting in a garage for nearly 15 years now and I want to use it but it's really the only part of my grandpas equipment that's left great video keep it up
thank you I appreciate it.
Just recently found your channel and have been binge watching the repair videos. Your video give me the confidence to repair my own trimmer and mower. Your video is so straight forward that even guy like me with ADHD is able to focus and repair my own equipment. Thank you so much.
No problem and thanks for the comment I appreciate it
Thank you kind sir! Wished I'd found your video before I purchased the replacement head that I have. It's similar but I really like the one you show. Seems simple enough that I just may attempt to change mine out before I begin my yard work. 👍
no problem and thank you for your time.
Have just bought a stihl fs38 with an autocut. Newest version is like your. So Nice to put New Line on without having to pull the head apart.
I haven't but I like the idea of making it easier to putting string into the trimmer head.
I got an old shindaiwa t261 free, looks new hardly used but man I do love old Japanese gardening machines hopefully I get to see more old weed whackers in ur newer videos keep it up👍
you and me both!
I would of bought the parts for the speed feed head thats was on it they are a much better quality of head than the one you bought and you can buy the individual parts for the sppd feed heads I get them all the time from my dealer. MY guys prefer this type head its faster to load and its nice that you don't have to take them a part to load the line
thanks for the comment I appreciate it. I'll have to check into that
Yes! I currently has new Stihl FS56 and I hate having too wind string on bottom and top of the string head.
They are a good tool. I have had one for years.. parts are still available from China.. good video mate stay safe
thank you Micks Mowers and I will definitely try
Thank you! Very helpful for replacing the head.
Glad it helped!
I've used that type of head once in re stringing the wife's battery trimmer. I've used the other old style all along but might get a new head for my DeWalt. They are a lot less pain for me than the double spool type. Thanks and Blessings
thank you Lewie McNeely
@@HomeGaragechannel U 2!
I prefer this type because it seems faster and easier to me. Actually I prefer someone do the work. But that's just me. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you D Butler I'm all about easy.
I like the fixed line head with much larger wire. 0.155 because I only deal with thick brush.
that make sense. I might have to do that soon for some tall weeds in the back of the house.
This is a t27 the best trimmer ever made. Replace with a stihl head with adapter. If you want to sell let me know. I have had one for 24 years they are the best.
I'll definitely let you know if I do. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
I think this one is a t260 the 27 or 270 has a different handle and coil and the throttle cable mounts on the top
It is an early T230, not a T27.
Lovely Japanese made engines and all and If i had to choose one they are always ideal in some cases compared to the original design etc
yes these are wonderful machines i wish this one wasn't so badly abused.
@@HomeGaragechannel yes it looks like it was used commercially i reckon
Great video👍
thank you
Hi Home Garage I've got an old Husqvarna that is really a shindawa that was made in Japan. I think they are as good as Stihl.
I definitely agree with you lesswatt. Thank for the comment I appreciate it.
Very nice video keep it up
Thank you Lost Guy I appreciate it

Wow that thing has seen better days.
You are absolutely right about that.
Thank you
You're welcome
It runs and that is inportant.
mostly definitely. thanks for the comment I appreciate it
love a good trimmer head and my Stihl FS 55 RC has a very similar one but yeah it,s a decent one
I would have installed a better one but it was a matter of money unfortunately.
@@HomeGaragechannel yeah never a problem i say but yeah all good and that carby sounds like it needs a good cleaning and a rebuild kit in it
@@Patrick4959 I agree with you on that
@@HomeGaragechannel strewth maybe a video on the same unit might be ideal too
@@Patrick4959 that is a good idea
I have a question for you, I have a tractor glass cutter and it started every good but, when you cut the glass 20 or 30 minutes and then the engine stop run so I have to waited for couple minutes then start again. But it keep doing that’s so do you have any idea that what is going on?
Yes replace the gas cap and if that doesn't work then replace the carb.
Home Garage ok, I will do that. Thanks
@@HighwayLoveChannel no problem
i used the speed feed head
Good choice. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
Unfortunately can’t get parts for these machines. Nor can I find any service. Very frustrating as these are well designed very expensive machines. They have been replaced by echo. Not the same parts. Service guys would work on them, but without parts no go. Was going through a Homelife a year. 1st Shindawa went 10 yrs of heavy use. Current T242 still going strong. One with hybrid engine has been a challenge.
Yes parts availability is poor now.
speed feed head was originally on it
I should probably put the speed feed head back on then.
I like the auto load heads. Too bad it’s missing the string guard, too long lines, lead to plugged mufflers due to slower the designed head speed. But, hey, I’d have fixed it too, and lived with it.
Thanks.
Thank you Jim S for the comment I always appreciate it
I like that head
Me too. It's very easy to use and affordable. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
Were do you buy the head at
Your local garden supply store or an online store.
Hey there, I have a question. I've got an old Homelite chainsaw that I can't get to run correctly. Sometimes when you try and start it it'll run for a couple seconds and then die, but other times it'll only fire and immediately die. I'm guessing it's not getting enough fuel?
i believe you are correct. Have you serviced the carburetor yet?
@@HomeGaragechannel yes, at least mostly serviced. The metering diaphragm is very flexible, and the pump side was fine. I did clean out some sawdust that was on a small screen.
@@noahdurfey537 did you confirm that fuel flows thru the screen?
@@HomeGaragechannel no it does not. I shall dig deeper.
@@noahdurfey537 okay let me know
Very helpful video. Would you sell me your original trimmer head you took off . I need the two medal inserts the string protrudes though. I have 105 string . TI A. DB
thanks but this video is very old and the trimmer head long gone. You should be able to find the metal inserts online though
Do you have a link for that head?
yes there is a product link in the video, at 5:09
I just put that same trimer head on for my uncle
excellent. what are your thoughts about it?
It was pretty easy but if had a lose fit

Do you still have that trimmer
No its gone
You sold it
@@IvanOchoa461 no it went back to the owner
Shindaiwa, old echo?
Does it look the same to you? I've not sure myself
Very close to echo, same parent company
@@ryansavage2733 gotcha
Yeah old echo great tools
@@themowerman which model echo did you have Mich?
No
Speed Feed For Me
I don't blame you. That's a good trimmer head. Thanks for the comment I appreciate it
@Jackson Leyda I like it too
What is wrong with the trimmer head?
missing parts
@@HomeGaragechannel What kind of missing parts on the trimmer head?
@@Prince-akpan the spool and the spring and the bottom part
@@HomeGaragechannel This is the reason why the trimmer head was not spinning properly.
@@Prince-akpan it was spinning but the top part wasn't connected to the spinning parts because of the missing parts.
Wow, that's a name I've not seen in years...
I know right
@@HomeGaragechannel I've actually learned quite a bit from your videos. Thank you so much.
not a problem, I appreciate your time.
@@HomeGaragechannel one more tip I'd like to help with. Of all things to clean off rust with, Meguiar's ultimate wheel cleaner is pH balanced and doesn't destroy the metal underneath surface rust. I only found this out recently when I spilled some on a dryer that was left outside for scrap.
Also works in less than 5 minutes.
@@der_pinguin44 thanks for the information
Looks early to mid 90s
I agree with you
It's a good style of trimmer head but I wonder if it needs that guard which has the cutting piece on it to keep the line at a certain length ?
The Ryobi line trimmers that I used to work on had that which prevented the machine from getting overloaded,my dad & brothers Honda line trimmers has the same thing.
I didn't get that Shakespeare stuff at school because I did the second highest level of English at high school so I didn't study him & I didn't do brilliantly well in that class, for whatever reason, power tool repairs was all I can get in 1998 as an apprentice electrical fitter/mechanic which was more useful.
I wonder why I'm not hired for my useful skills these days ?
Why do they think that I'm this one ?
ua-cam.com/video/Zr3N2dSEEVM/v-deo.html
it probably needs a guard with a cutter so the line doesn't get too long but thats up to the user.
