  • The Trans-Siberian train, the longest train journey in the world across the largest country on Earth.
This train runs from Moscow in European Russia, to Vladivostok in the far east and back, covering over 9000km's and taking over a week. Most people take the train eastwards towards Siberia.
However, we decided to hop on this train in Vladivostok, and ride it in reverse, from the far east of Russia, across Siberia, and towards Europe. What waited us, was not what we were hoping for, this is the reality of travelling the real Trans-Siberian Express and it ruined us...
Join us as we head west from Vladivostok on the trans Siberian railway, (passing through the Russian cities of Khabarovsk, Chita, Ulan Ude, Irkutsk and Krasnoyarsk, as well as the beautiful Lake Baikal) and let us show you what living on Russia's most famous railway really looks like.

I’ve been to Russia in February. When you consider the vast distance, temperature extremes, and logistical challenges, the fact that it runs as well as it does is remarkable. I’ve ridden trains in Russia and I give them a high rating.

Krasnoyarsk---where Дмитрий Хворостовский (Dmitri Hvorostovsky) was born and raised! IMHO, one of the greatest lyric baritones ever, gone far too soon (in 2017 at age 55), revered worldwide for his opera performances and beloved for his renditions of Russian folk tunes ("The Cranes"). The solution to long distance train travel is to do lots of stop-overs. It may take much longer but each stopover is an opportunity to see a different place rather than just see the train station surrounds. It may take 2-3 weeks but it has advantages.

The room tour took me back to travelling in the 1970s, a little less comfortable back then. What an amazing journey, my sort of thing, having got on the wrong train and ended up in Yugoslavia, by mistake and got arrested, great fun. The longest journey in Europe I have taken was Madrid to Venice, quite short really!

Another informative and interesting program even with your talkative cabin mate. I kept asking myself, "why didn't they purchase the 4th bed"? Thanks for telling us you considered it but unfortunately you took the chance of either having it unoccupied or having a pleasant (or awful)cabin mate. I watched a couple who traveled from Moscow to Vladivostok in Second Class but they paid for the other two beds in order to have some privacy. It still was a stressful trip for them. They didn't speak or read Russian and that was an added difficulty for them. I promise you that in the years to come you will see the humor in this "adventure". Julia, it was so wonderful that your sister was able to travel with you. Maybe someday you can have your brother and Grandma accompany you on one of your journeys. Take care. 🫂❤️🙏🕊

We had an experience (nowhere near as bad as yours) when travelling on the Darjeeling Mail overnight sleeper between Kolkata and Siliguri, West Bengal. Like you, there were three of us in a 4 berth AC1 cabin. The fourth member turned out to be a young Bengali guy and he was a nice guy, BUT his phone alarm started to go off at 4am and it kept going every 10 minutes! Trouble is, he was a really deep sleeper and even our attempts to wake him only worked once. His sleepy attempt to switch it off didn't work as it started again within 10 minutes 😂 We thought about booking the fourth berth for future journeys, but apparently there is such a demand that if nobody checks in against that seat, it will be released. I'm not sure if that's correct though. Either way, I don't know how you put up with that for so long!! Kudos to you. Great video and actually the "issues" added to the entertainment value (sorry! 😂)

what a journey...but i really think you summed it up well at the conclusion. i really appreciated this video because it shows what travel really can be like at times. travel is not an instagram post. it can be frustrating, long, dirty, smelly, tiring, and all the things you mentioned. however, the stories and memories that can be looked back on, even the bad ones, create a life considered full. keep up the great work showing the reality of exploring our globe!

My Dad was one of those people who would tell the same tall stories to anyone who would listen (and anyone who wouldn't!). I rarely had meaningful conversations with him and he would often take over a social situation. But he's been gone 4 years, and I miss him despite his annoying ways. He meant well and I can't show him anything to make him laugh now.

Definitely love your VDO as always and thank you for sharing all aspects of your travelling experiences with us! Julia is super sweet and funny :) I remember sitting on a 5 hour-ish. second-class train from Tbilisi to Batumi and there was a toddler who was constantly yelling and screaming almost all the way until the mother had to calm him/her down with a baby shark-like song played in an incessant loop. Almost drove me nuts but certainly gave me a huge ear worm for days! 🤣 From Thailand with Love XOXO

Thank you for this video - it was, so put it bluntly, a solid insight into long-distance train travel. While I love trains and train travel; plus, I love travel in general (at 100++ countries and counting), I now would not do the Trans-Siberian train journey. Why? Because of exactly what I learned from watching your day-4/day-5 segment. I don't want to hit that wall. YET ... I'm so absolutely grateful for all your videos and this one specifically. You have a knack to bring the viewer into your lives and your feelings while also producing great travel videos. Thank you. Thank you. PS: If you are four months behind; I really hope you take some down-time and allow yourselves to catch up.
