- UK casuals talks to Steve Cowens for his 1st interview in 5 years, Steve is a former member/founder of Sheffield United's Blades Business Crew (BBC). Steve tells us when he first went to football, how the name BBC came about, the times he's come unstuck @ football. Why he's wrote his books about Sheffield United's firm and how much they hate Wednesday! Plus much more!
Steve, it’s Ymo from Lincoln mate, very honest account , and mutual respect, I was there at both games, second time when you were in The Chaplin Arms , we came to you and that little old pub emptied and you were straight into
Us, we stood for a bit but yeah you ran us , great scrap near the ground , I’m doing Pt2 soon and you’ll be getting a mention in a bit more detail about that second game , brilliant lad
looking forward to getting you back on the show next year for your part 2 mate
Thought the good times would have never end.!!!
Some good old memories...
Big up blades...
Still got that original BBC book Blades and Forest aren't the best of buddies but I've always liked and rated that club and lads. SC comes over as a decent chap unlike some ego driven narcissists on the scene. Really enjoyed this, all the best with your future endeavours and family and not forgetting UK Casuals for getting this up for us all.
Proper football lad, enjoyed interview, middlesbrough lad
Morning Matty another excellent podcast.
cheers mate, got a couple more interviews due out in the next few days
Straight to the point honesty and refreshing to hear Steve unlike some books and that over exaggerated 👏👍👊
had to stay on Steves case for months for this interview but it was worth it in the end
You gullible mug 🤦🏻♂️
When u get it in u I think it never fully leaves u RESPECT TOP BOY
Read both of Steve’s books. He’s as honest as the day is long. See him on occasion around the lane and he’s just an overall good man with a big heart. He might enjoy a dance with like minded individuals but he does this with a code of conduct ( not everyone does), if all football lads conducted themselves with the same integrity then it would be a much more even battle field. UTB 👍🏻👊🏻❤️
@@hudson7354 Great Joke that sweetheart, keep them coming pal. 😂🙄
@@Supreme_321 Was that you sweetheart 😂
@@Mainactor80Nope it wasn't me but i do know who it was sweetheart 😁
@@Supreme_321 come on then pal, let’s know who this hitter is??
My first game was against Rochdale. Ian Poterfield with a couple of players came to my school ( wybourn ) to tell us about the team and gave away free tickets to the kids for a night game. We won 3-1 and I was hooked
I was at that Arsenal game and also in the John Street terrace and remember the Arsenal fans being kicked off the Kop and running across the pitch to the Lane end. The following week we were also home to Spurs in the league, the Arsenal game being a cup match. I’ll have to check the records to see if my memory is accurate.
Good podcast, genuine guy Steve
We had a top day up there for a pre-season friendly August 1984.Around 80 of us up on the train, Sheff United met us head on
outside the station.
Then 100s of brightly coloured lads fighting up by the ground. We got thrown in the ground along the side, we couldn`t wait for
the match to end and to get back out and have it with Sheff United.
Earlier that morning at 8am we was haven`t with both Scouse mobs along the Euston Road who were down for the charity shield
It beat any Class A..
Regards Spurs👍
I remember that cup match and Arsenal jumping on to the pitch to run towards their fellow fans on the Bramall Lane end. I was also on theJohn Street terrace in the corner. I recollect that we played Spurs either the week before or week after in the League, Spurs being in the second division that season. Not surprised if I’ve got that wrong because the older I get…….
great interview
We were never into the hooliganism, even so back in the early 90s a mate got beat up by the BBC in the toilets in the palais on London road in Sheff.
Was at the book launch. He's one of our own ⚔️
I've still got a BBC badge
Great vids but the sound's a bit hit and miss.
Very good outfit on there day my only gripe is had a bit of a row with them down London 89 when both on away days and got the upper hand. Unfortunately the plod got involved and some lads pointing us out to the police disappointing that regards Grimsby
How's Gordon ?
Get someone from arsenal on here… they was the bollocks back in the day and even now they can pull a good mob together
Championship is the peak of the English game.
Prem is a global business bollox
OCS 👊
ay throw mist1 outa bbc cos he's an embarrasment taggin over everyone including his own crew joke n des n risky . the infighting is hillarious
You are so funny. You know Nothing. Are you on about BBC or ACT. Speak to the people. Come out to play.
Jesus grow up springs to mind !!!
its not about 'growing up' whether you like it or not Football hooliganism is a massive part of British history. Like the MODS & Bikers Teddy boys, punks etc it was a sub culture of its own, which still continues to this day.
Jeff if the topic is something that gripes you none forces you listen and watch it.
@@JuStAdIrTyReDdOg exactlt AP just swipe left and watch something else
You get a life cock lol.
UTB
His recollection of the Chelsea turnout at Camden is total bollox ,,,, Chelsea smashed em ,,,, a tube full of Sheffield done 5 Chelsea down in the tube ,,, but the main row ,, Chelsea tore them to pieces
you know the old saying theres 3 sides to a story his side, your side & then theres the truth
Hard to fathom when or why United and Wednesday fans developed this « hatred » beyond healthy rivalry. One for the sociologists and psychologists I think. Personally find it lamentable. In the mid sixties ( when I started) to the end of the seventies we used to go on each other’s ends and stand amongst each other. There was intense rivalry but it wasn’t insane. Now it’s crazy on derby days. When I look at the security presence necessary to police matches I believe it’s not worth it. Sometimes when I arrive at the railway station for home games ( all games not derby matches) to be met with lines of police vans, dogs, horses , police dressed like robocop I can’t see the point. There should be some Royal Commission or other to examine the phenomenon.
Derby days & the hatred even goes all the way down to non league being a weymouth fan we hate Yeovil always have but are closest rivals are Dorchester FC which also generates a lot of hate. its a strange concept that the only reason you hate another team is that they are the closest to you?
@@UKCasuals not always. I'm a Preston fan and in the 90s the rivalry with Gillingham was insane. When Blackpool got relegated, Gillingham was the fixture I looked for.
