I just got drum major for our marching band, and in the song that I conduct there are 2 measures(4/4) with triplets and then two quarter notes. How would I conduct that? The other drum majors made their own pattern but I don't think the band will be able to follow. And I was just wondering if you could help me figure out how to correctly conduct that.
Conducting with both hands is an easy addition once you learn how to conduct with either the right hand or the left alone. If, like me, you are right handed, practice with that hand until it is second nature to you. After you have it down, add the left hand, mirrored from how you are doing the right. In other words, when your hands come down at the same time, then move in towards each other, then out away from each other, then up at the same time. Does that make sense?

I would suggest 4th beat closer to 1st beat. Because it will be more clear. Also 3rd beat is not that far as it seems.
