Welcome to the "Apple Capital of the World", the heartland of apple production in the United States, where an astounding 2 billion apples are harvested each year. This is Washington State, a place where the air is crisp, the soil fertile, and the apple trees stretch as far as the eye can see. Today, you'll get an insider's look at the harvesting methods, from traditional hand-picking to modern mechanical harvesters, and learn about the journey these apples take after leaving the farm.
Our story begins with a number that might seem almost incomprehensible: 2 billion apples. Yes, you heard that correctly - 2 billion. Over 175,000 acres of land are dedicated to apple orchards, with more than 2,500 farms contributing to this vast expanse. These farms collectively produce an astounding figure of approximately 130 million boxes of apples each year, translating to nearly 2 billion individual apples. This output places Washington State firmly at the helm of U.S. apple production, accounting for about 65% of the entire country's apple yield.
