Hey man just finished the video, great stuff. Thought I’d add some bullet points you asked for at the end as a lapsed Ibanez fanboy. I think the real draw was the quality and craftmanship of the prestige line, especially pre-covid economics. You could buy the j craft builds for like $1200-1500 in the RG line and they were consistently fantastic instruments that came with a hardshell case and wonderful case candy. Those models also held their value really well in the used market. A lot of people sort of sought out those earlier variants of the prestige line and tbh I don’t even really see the stuff they put out from like 2015 and 2016 out there anymore, meaning people are retaining ownership of them (they were killer). The current prestige line is killer, but take a gander at their price points. For my monies, the price of a prestige rgd, for instance, is better spent on a deposit for a custom guitar specc’ed to my needs (but again that’s my take/opinion). Hence my “lapsed fanboy” status. Hope that was a bit informative. Oh and the prestige necks are super duper fast and stable. Forgot to mention that.
I love the line up personally but im tired of the lack of options across the board when it comes to guitars with a fixed bridge. Trems are neat but im tired of the lack of options for those of us who personally don't like them.
I'm still rocking a 91 RG550. Ibanez has the best necks if you like them thin. I have a Jem Jr which has a slightly thicker neck, but it has the most versatile pickups of all my guitars. I got a Xiphos when they first came out, I've just replaced the trem as the old one was starting to have tuning issues. Ibanez is my favourite guitar brand by a mile.
You’re right for the most part and same would apply to your favourite brands like Fender and Gibson who skipped NAMM this year. Same body shape guitars with variants colors used in the past by a way steeper price. Ibanez new 2024 lineup started last year in November. Usually they will either add or drop a certain colour, change the tremolo system and also can have a change in fretboard material like rosewood to ebony throughout the year. Those mostly apply to Prestige and J Custom series which you don’t talk about in this video. I know you often say what will caught your eye or looks good and I’m sure that when you will be playing live on your tour, you will much prefer a reliable guitar that will sounds awesome, stay in tune and will be comfortable playing with the whole show than having a super cool guitar like Gibson Les Paul that can stay in tune the whole song in Low tuning situation.
I would love to play one of those Premium RGT’s. They stopped making the Prestige RGT’s many years ago and my top two guitars are indeed Prestige RGT’s(Rgt3020ds & Ahm220). Like them better than any other guitar I have ever played, including my other two Ibanez’s which are bolt on necks (USA Custom & Prestige RG652NG)
I cannot get used to the super thin neck but I only got an old rgrt421. Why did they stop making the Prestige lineup? That's interesting. It was quite a dream guitar
It’s like the Ibanez guitar and bass divisions are really two different companies. I don’t even play bass, but I have to say that the basses keep looking pretty rad the last few years. What’s going on with the guitars not doing anything new? I mean, people love Ibanez guitars for what they are - but it’s all the same thing all the time.
Same boat with Ibanez. Nothing really wows me, other than the 470 w/ Midnight Purple. I wish they would take a play out of Jackson’s book and get some highlighter colors. ESP with the wild color bursts or something. Still saving my money for a true purple guitar 🤞🏼🤞🏼
Biggest bummer about this is there's no prestige or J custom models. The premium guitars are a tier below the prestige line. Just basically a RG series with better specs
I wish they brought back 3-piece necks on the 3xx and 4xx series like they had years ago! That was a cool feature, with a single piece it feels kinda cheaped out. I have a RG350 with fantastic 3-piece maple neck
I have an RG Gio 7 string... I was floored by how good the fretwork was. I don't think I polished the frets... and I certainly didn't level them. I just looked at the fretboard and saw it was ''very new''. There was no struggle in filing down the fret ends. It was done once and then moved on down the line. It was done so well that it is like a CNC but better... Too bad I don't play the thing.
Man, if Ibanez made a 30" baritone... Like, they did have a 28" Iron Label one for a while, but give me the full 30" Bass VI scale. And do it in a style other than the RG. An AZ 30" baritone. That would be the sickest thing ever. I love Ibanez, but that's because I'm a "shredder" and the RG line always appealed to me. Plus, I find the quality for the price is great, and if I ever were to endorse them, it's cool that they have such a variety in their lineup of everything from pointy shred machines to jazz boxes to mandolins and everything in between... you never have to leave the brand to branch out. But there are definitely holes in their lineup, like a Bass VI-style baritone, and I totally get where you're coming from. Plus, as much as I love my RGs, I also accept that they're pretty much the generic "template" of the shred superstrat design, and that they ain't winning any awards for creativity with their offerings.
Im so mad that our opinions aren't exactly the same ! The blood red one sounds awesome. I like the look too even though red isn't my my favorite color.
The first RG premium with the Floyd rose, is sooooo cool. You were correct about the black one. They came out last year. Like the red variation, it also had a black one that came out last year. Those guitars are so cool, but it’s just a change of color :/ that’s kind of a bummer from Ibanez so far.
Honestly I'm getting really sick of super shredders; it's been done. I like that they're bringing back the Iceman. I hope we see more variety in body shape this year
@@Lambik79 Oh I didn't even notice that! That's awful, I'm so sorry to hear that :( hopefully more lefties are coming from other brands this NAMM. as a long time Ibanez player , I am totally with ya on most of this. The purple RG450 and the purple Gio model are sick AF though, purple ftw. My main is heavily modded RG320 from like 91 or something that I absolutely love to death. Still think the older models are the best. Im a grumpy ass old man that fears change though so take that for what it is haha.
At the end, the Antique Blue Metallic Iceman looks like the coolest of the 2024 line-up. I saw it in a video 2 days ago, and it was very nice !! I like the old 70's Ibanez knobs they put on the Iceman and some others models !
Im bummed too man. Doesnt look like they added anything to prestige line and thats what i was hoping for. So few options and i love ibanez build quality.

I'll be getting the dragon eye burst AZ and removing the middle pick up, adding a custom white pickguard. Its not much, but enough to make it a bit more interesting
I just want to see some RG standard model 7-string guitars with the Gibraltar bridge. I'm not a big fan of trems, and the F107 bridge leaves a lot to be desired, imo.
We do now have Gio’s with bursts and Floyd’s…so I’ll take that win, also the new RG and FRH models look sick…wish they did more with the AZ’s this year though…

If you haven't had the chance to try an Ibanez S, do try one. I used to be a RG fan even after I owned an S but went back. The feel of an S is one of a kind!
I started to play Ibanez guitars with S521 and I just couldn't play RGs at all because they feel like a log to me. Absolutely unergonomic guitar model imo ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
No 26.5” scale 7-string S series, no fixed bridge RG prestige, no new multiscale models, no Tim Henson 8-string, no baritones…. I love Ibanez so much but where is the innovation? It would be so easy to please a huge portion of their “newer” customer base while still appealing to their longtime patrons as well
ESP and Schecter got the Metal market cornered, especially the mid priced import models. So much value there. Ibanez clearly is leaning into the prog/shred thing nowadays.
There’s new 8 string, 7 strings (including a prestige) models. Like the RG8EX-BKF, for example. So it seems like all of what’s new isn’t on display on the site. Great video as always tho
I traded my last two ibanezes. One of them was a really nice japanese RG 7 string but its just not my style anymore. I’m more into fender gibson and PRS now

Pretty cool video 😎 I’ve always liked the rg guitars and soundgear basses. Some of these don’t look too bad, but certainly nothing special either. The basses on the other had looks awesome. That btb bass looks killer.
Something’s gotta give over at Ibanez, idk who they hire to design these but the designs have not been it for years. Waiting for ESP and Jackson to show up and lead the pack again this year.
Dude if you're into 30 inch Ibanez baritone guitars you gotta get an discontinued MMM1 Mike Mushok baritone signature. It's 28 inch but still. It was the 2nd guitar I ever owned, so maybe I'm biased. But it's one of the best playing and looking guitars I've ever used.

You don't have to believe me on this, but I am close with a certain private Ibanez dealer on the west coast that has assured me that there is more to come...
Ya I don’t think this is it, cause there are no prestige models yet. And the axion label, iron label hasn’t been released either. So I think they have more. Cause I heard they have some evertune 6-7 string prestige’s coming out. And I know the axion and iron label guitars sold well. So I guess we will see

i guess i am an ibanez fan even thought i do not like the shapes and colors etc. , but the necks and the higher end edge trems are so good that i keep buying ibenz guitars ^^ but i hope they get an decent design some day. the classic white jem is nice the black 7 string jem, the iceman, but there are so often deal breakers with strange color choices, strange finishes etc
Another year and no Isaac Hale and Jesse Cash signature models (at the very least they should do an evertune/fixed bridge baritone 7 strings) smh. Maybe later in the year those will get announced but I doubt it.
I have had a rg and a s series like 10 years ago. I didnt really care for the edge tremolo because when you bend a string the bridge raises and the other strings go flat. I watched andertons video and was pretty disappointed. There was nothing i saw i wanted. I used to want a prestige more than anything I'll edit and say even premium ones have crap fretboards.
I wouldn't say im the expert on Ibanez's, but if i were to recommend an Ibanez to you, I absolutely love my Axion label RGA. I would also say that their prestige guitars are great and since you are a les paul/fender type of dude, they made an Ibanez prestige RG not too long ago that has a mahogany body and ash tops. The number series is the 5100s lol. Also if you want to go a little bit more vintage route with them, the RG 550s are the ones that set them on the map in 1987 through the early 2000 when all your favorite hardcore and Numetal artist were playing ibanez. The Ibanez genesis series is an ode to those 550s. One last thing is that if you are a fan of heavy guitar the S series may not be your cup of tea. However, the AZ may be more up your alley.
Two weeks into 2024, schecter gave the ick and ibanez gave the sad.
Hahah both happened in a week’s time
That MGK Schecter…so very bad 🤮
Dimebag is rolling in his grave right now. May he rest in peace.

I like the rgrt421. Bout to buy that axe
Gahh i was hoping they'd release the rg421 in gloss black dammit!
The new RG baritone is about the only thing to be excited about
Lol I could tell man you been in the game for a minute
You should get an MTM1 or MTM2 as part of your collection
Another year and no Isaac Hale and Jesse Cash signature models (at the very least they should do an evertune/fixed bridge baritone 7 strings) smh. Maybe later in the year those will get announced but I doubt it.
I with you, Ibanez is not overly inspiring for 2024
I have had a rg and a s series like 10 years ago. I didnt really care for the edge tremolo because when you bend a string the bridge raises and the other strings go flat.
I watched andertons video and was pretty disappointed. There was nothing i saw i wanted. I used to want a prestige more than anything
I'll edit and say even premium ones have crap fretboards.
They NEED to bring back the Destroyer model
I don’t understand why all these companies are moving away from maple fretboards! It makes me sad
