Man, keep up the great work! Loving this channel so far. I've got a 66 LG-1 that someone at some point converted to an LG-2 with X-bracing...funky guitar, but love it. These old Gibson small bodies are amazing little machines.

Thanks dude! Yeah conversion or no, these guitars are a thing all their own. Stoked you have one!

I read in a book about old Gibsons, maybe Spann's book? I don't remember, but the author was saying back in the 30s and 40s there were only three guys doing the bursts, so you could tell which guy was bursting your guitar just by looking at the size and shape of the burst because they made their own templates to work with.

Oh man that's so cool. I'm not super in to bursts (other than the Kzoo mini sunbursts you sometimes see on KG's. LOVE those), but it be something to know the hand that did it cause it's quiet a talent!

Nice, thanks. I've got a 2016 J-15 that I bought new at local guitar store. It's an absolutely gorgeous full gloss walnut guitar with a maple neck and a Sitka spruce top. It was advertised as "sustainable". Obviously no shortage of walnut.
The only thing I had done was a bone nut and saddle, and a replacement pick guard from Gibson because the original thick pick guard delaminated off. now it's got a spec tear drop Gibson pick guard, the regular thin one. All work was done by the guitar stores repair shop, best in town.
This thing plays beautifully. When I was shopping in the store's acoustic room I compared several Gibson models including a couple of J-45s and I liked the J-15 better. The only thing I didn't like about it were the Mini Grover Rotomatics, but I've gotten used to them and will keep the guitar original.
Couldn't beat the price either, think I paid 1300 US after the store discount.

recommend so very highly. i got to play 6 different models at stay gold in santa fe, and all of them were just stellar. methinks your love of vintage gibson/martin/catalog guitars will align perfectly with the way iris is making their instruments. light, non-pore filled satin, and WOOOOODY and dry sounding, but still managing some complexity in tone. very articulate, balanced and round/fat trebles. i'm very anxious to get mine!@@kostringworks

Thanks pal! I’m sitting in front of a 10 ft window, haha. Sometimes it’s terrible though when it’s super sunny.

LG-2 have the wood strip running down the middle of the back inside of the Guitar, which is clearly visible looking in the sound hole. The LG-1's don't have that strip
