Lebhafte und erfreuliche Aufführung dieses technisch anspruchsvollen Meisterstücks im rhythmischen Tempo mit perfekter Einklang zweier Solisten. Echt Gänsehaut!

The silence from a mixed public audience seems like a very European phenomenon to my African ear. I'm not saying we're loud as a continent, but our public performances seem to invite active participation, whereas Europeans seem to value the distance between the individual and the 'spectacle'. Nothing wrong with either though each has its place I suppose.

Its also depends maybe on the type of performance, i mean this is classical music, here its common to be quiet there, but in other genres this is not always the case (take a rock concert or something). is it common in Africa to also active participate in classical music?

@@Thundergod213 Well, I can't say for certain, but I've certainly seen Recitals of Arabic classical and traditional music being reluctantly participatory (where the performers weren't expecting participation but the public is so overwhelmed by emotion that they clap, whistle etc along with the music).
I don't know how widespread European classical music is on the continent though. CDs and Downloads are common, and so you can expect the famous names to pop up in people's private libraries, but public performances of such art-house instruments as the violin viola cello etc are rare to my knowledge.
I can't speak for the whole continent as I've only lived in a few of the countries but in those that I know, classical music is somewhat of a niche.
So to answer your question, the participatory performances are those of Traditional musics of our native cultures, and so they can't be compared to European art house music in a sense because they have their own rules. For instance, some performances have an almost religious observance that people will only listen and not participate or disturb the performance in any way. This is as far as I can say about it!

They cheer at the end!! Listening intently, and then expressing enthusiasm.
