How anyone can accuse this man of cruelty and abuse is totally beyond me , watching his show changed how I view my own wonderful dog and made our relationship so much better , also made me a much calmer person in every day life .

They acuse him of cruelty because his dominance theory training method has been dispelled. Positive reinforcement is the modern way to train dogs. Studies have shown that dominance theory does create long term positive effects. I am not saying I disagree with his training.

Not that long ago, parents used to teach their children how to behave around dogs- not to approach or try to touch them if they did not know the dog, not to act or sound too excited around them, etc. Basically very similar to what Cesar says people in Mexico taught their children. These days, it seems like most parents expect the world to be at their children's disposal. In other words, if their kid wants to pet a dog, it seems like those parents think their kid ought to be able to do that- and the dog has no say. Or the dog should automatically want to be petted by their kid, regardless of how the kid is acting- rushing, screaming, or whatever. SOME parents teach their children to ask the owner first, but many do not. Heck, many adults seem to think that if a dog does not just let them come up and pet it that there is something wrong with the dog. (They also seem to think that if the dog owner does not want the kid or adult to pet their dog, there must be something wrong with the dog owner.) When I ask people if I can pet their dogs, I know I still have to read the dog, but I am amazed at how most of the dog owners look at me like I am crazy for asking them instead of just petting their dog.

You couldn't be more right! Cesar, truly and almost sadly, is really just trying to reset the mentality of Americans back to how it used to be during the years i was raised...60's, 70's...teach your chilren to be good people...don't lie, cheat syeal. Respect your elders, treat your neighbors as you eant to be treated. Same applies to dogs. The tragedy is the DISCONNECTION OF THE FAMILY (PACK)UNIT, POLIYICAL CORRECTNESS, ITS ALL GOTTEN LOST IN THIS COUNTRY!! ANYONE REMEMBER THE SONG "WE ARE THE WORLD, WE ARE YHE CHILDREN"? What happened to the world anyway?

My 15 year old 5 pound Malteese has been the best teacher to all breeds of foster dogs I've brought in. No matter if it's a Great Dane or another small dog. My new Boston Terrier puppy is 5 months now and without doing anything she told puppy from day one to give her space and she 100% respects her. I love watching dogs teach dogs. It's So true, My Malteese isn't being mean or she dosent hate the puppy. It's amazing how bad the puppy just wants to lay beside her.. why.. because shes calm, a matter of fact and happy because of it. So I learn by watching how she acts.

When you get a dog you are signing up as leader. Its a commitment of your time, and dedication. Don’t do it if you don’t have both. Put a sign on your door Dog in TrainIng so anyone entering will respect and understand your attention will be divided. Use Cesar rule no touch no talk no eye contact until you or your dog say it’s okay. I had to do it for my dog. Your dog knows how to behave but sometimes ppl don’t. Take charge.

    • @markfuller

They start with "research proves..." and then proceed to push everyone down to feel better about their "academic superiority." They never ask: "if this is so bad, and something else is so good, why hasn't someone produced a multi-season tv series demonstrating *vastly* better results?"
Right? If non-aversive, all-positive training was tremendously better (not just a difference in style, but demonstrably better compared to something "invalid"), where is everyone? Why wouldn't Cesar's 1.56 followers be easily led to something that works that much better? Why wouldn't someone (anyone) seize upon that opportunity to be famous and make a fortune? You have to ask: where is everyone?
Everything points to how it's not the way purists say it is. They're just satisfying their egos at everyone else's expense. Pushing others down to feel good about themselves. Read Aesop's fable about "the dog in the manger." That's it. People who begrudge others for enjoying what they themselves can't.
It's really the basis of a clique. Shaming people into membership. Not demonstrating efficacy. Moral superiority, not effectual.

Yes, and they said not to spank your children. Use positive reinforcement. Look at the young today. They are the most selfish, egotistical and nasty people I have ever met. They think we owe them a living. This man knows dogs and he knows what works. Don't listen to these people that degrade others. The proof is in the results. Using discipline is not abuse. Love this guy and hope he continues to be successful.

You’re confusing discipline with aggression. He’s saying discipline comes from a calm and confident state. When you spank or use physical aggression as discipline that is the opposite of calmness and confidence. Being aggressive is losing control of your own emotions; therefore, not being calm at all.

My dog did not hurt the other dog at all but told it to back off. So lady goes the other way saying my dog is aggressive, well I’ve said it before “there’s no cure for stupid”. People please think! Not all dogs are looking for a friend, some have jobs they do and you are not part of their life.
