Nothing better than hearing experience talk. Things learned from doing and the occasional mistake definitely the words of wisdom to listen to. 👍. Great content
Absolutely awesome.
Thank you very much.
Because see I've lived it an learned it myself in life.
I take on different jobs . I do it because I love to learn.
Your video helps so much.
I bought a property before an learned my lesson.
Don't go making calls to try an get permit or someone else to install a Culver pipe.
Just keep it secret an do it yourself.
Plus I learned how to do it myself already from my dad when I was a kid.
Very helpful as I prepare for my first DIY culvert install. Thank you.
Going to install a small culvert on some hunting property. Thank you for sharing your expertise
Appreciate the video, I'll be putting in a 40' culvert at the entrance of my property and may need to do a mid driveway one as well for water mgmt. Thank for the instruction!
What size crushed rock do you pack around the culvert pipe? Should it include the fines too?
You need fines or you risk water scouring around the culvert instead of go through it. As a minimum you need the greater of 12" or 1/2 the pipe diameter.
@@symcardnel1741 it seems every quarry identifies or labels their material differently. I have no idea what CA6 is. Haha. What size is the maximum diameter of the material you use? Thanks for the response.
What are you using for "stone" around the culvert? Is it all the way around it, or do you pad the pipe with a thin layer of dirt?
Tamp 21AA and set pipe on that. Knife crushed stone 21AA around pipe.
Only thing I could add that probably wasn't mentioned; keep the bell end of the pipe up stream.
I am currently setting 18" pipe at my house. My question is should the pipe go over the home line or just to the home line. To the line us as far as I can get it.
I would call your township building department or the drain commission.
Why invest in long leveler. Just use a long piece of 2×4 and place your foot long leveler on top of it in the middle.🇨🇦
Yes
IDK the county codes but the driveway culverts in my neighborhood are installed at -1 degree slope. I think it's to ensure the hydraulic jump happens inside the pipe & not at the outlet end of the pipe, or/& to force some of the stormwater into the grassed stormwater swells. I thought the -1 degree slope was odd but the county installs them that way.
Great video. Much appreciated.
What size stone?
Question: Does the pipe lay on the dirt or do you put a small amount of gravel down first and then the pipe? I’m doing a 40’ apron.
Crushed stone 1st

I need to connect 2 x 20' x15" round galvanized steel culverts DOT installed. I need a wider driveway. I need to cut a 16' piece and band it. Just my driveway ups, fedx, tractor. Not much dirt on top of my 2 existing pipes. Can I band HDPE 16 FOOT Between these?
Yes use Mar Mac couplers
If it’s a plastic pipe what stops it from caving in when you drive over it.

How do u connect two 20' culvert pipes .. do they have a coupling or do they automaticly fit in with each other
Basically, there are two types of culverts: one is known as plain, and one is known as a bell end. You can join a plain end and a bell end, or you can take two plain ends and buy a coupler that will connect them.
Does the fill material around The culvert to need to be a clean stone that’s drains or just a material that compacts well?
If you look at what the manufacturer is going to require, they're gonna want you to pack Stone and then put the pipe down and then compact a good packing material along the sides of pipe, knife the material under the sides.
@@FRENCHDRAINMAN do the manufacturers typically want stone at the bottom because it’s easy to grade flat to create a nice bed or is it for drainage purposes to let water drain or pass around the pipe? Thanks!
How do you push 2 20' pipes together?

How did you connect the two pipes?
With a Wretched strap
Can you do a video exclusively about using this pipe to protect a french drain? Does stone go in the gaps to the sides of it, or only just in it? Fabric inside it or on the trench wall? It would be helpful, thanks!
Thanks for keeping it simple and calling out the half-done jobs out there. So, I can't find any videos that show me how to splice into the irrigation pipe that runs through my front yard. I know this isn't hard to do and I really don't feel like paying a contractor for this. Please, anyone, is there a video that shows how to cut/splice into the pipe that is in place for FLOOD irrigation. I'm going to connect the pipe and add two 12" valves, one in the front yard and one in the front of my back yard. Any help would be much appreciated.

I have a 12" 20 foot signal wall black pipe. Do you think it will be ok for a drive way pipe??
No
I have a drainage ditch coming down through the road way and down through my land I recently had new fill downstream of this and am having trouble with it draining wondering if 16" galvanized 20 ft long will be okay also considering hdpe as well possibly 18 inch 20ft long need at least 40 ft to go through to the end of the fill originally had some culvert and big rocks at the end thinking it would drain through but it must be too much at times especially in springtime to handle backing up and running across top of fill.....any suggestions?
You should increase the diameter of the covert pipe.
Does the "not needing stone" apply to 36inch dual wall culvert buried 2+feet underground when not driving over it?
It was virgin soil under the pipe.
@@FRENCHDRAINMAN so if there is already a pipe that I’m digging out to replace with dual wall hdpe, I do need stone since the dirt isn’t virgin dirt?
How do you decide what diameter of culvert pipe you need to use?
Go upstream and measure the size of what is upstream. Then go up one size from that. 💯
Had trouble attaching two 20 foot drains, what is the technique? Thye would not fir together.
Ratchet straps
What degree of slope do you need?
1% Slope
Can I use single walled culvert pipe?

Are the sump systems made from 24" or 18" pipe?
15" outside diameter
@@FRENCHDRAINMAN thank you
Just make the pipe level as possible with your eyes water seeks its own level will naturally drain
Will these pipes connect to an existing concrete culvert?
@R J
No only 1/3 of our systems do
Would I need a marmac dissimilar coupler?
how odd i come across this and then name of the culvert is called Baughman (my last name) 🤣

Ditto on your galvsnized culvert pipe comments. In short, galvanized culvert pipe sucks.
👍
What is the metal bit called that leads into the culvert.
Pallet forks
@@FRENCHDRAINMAN the funnel sort of thing. At the mouth of the culvert.
What size stone?
Crushed stone that packs. 3/4" with fines
@@FRENCHDRAINMAN ah ok. Thx so much for answering. What about a 2 or 3" stone around the ends?
