Heyy -- so how's Bb coming along for you? Don't give up on it yet, it's only been a week! It might take you a month to get the hang of it, and that's totally okay. A month is nothing in the grand scheme of things. Share this series with someone who needs to learn to love barre chords. Really appreciate you all learning with me ~Kevin
What surprises me about this barre chord is the fact that new muscles in the arm! and the hand! and the fingers! need to be engaged to be able to play it. Surprise! Thanks for your clarity, Kevin. I am still on the first step but will keep working on it:-)
Hey I can't seem to get the shape barring only the 2 strings. When I bar all four it's a lot easier for me. Is that fine or should I work on baring just the 2 strings. edit nevermind you awnsered that in the in the end
As a 70 year old guitarist who has been playing for 55 years, and is now dealing with arthritis in both hands, this is the perfect teaching tool to re-learn to play barre chords on my ukulele, so thank you very much for your help.
I am a teacher with 30 years of experience and appreciate your patience and attention to detail as your progress along your lesson. Believe me, the repetition of skills are helpful and all your tips are much appreciated. Ben 61 yr old Melbourne Australia
After 2 months I wanna say I learned to lay down all the fingers at the same time with the help of metronome. Kevin, I always leave comments on your videos, starting with the thanks words. U can't imagine how u have helped me and help. Tysm. I have no words to describe how u helped me, how I love, respect, and appreciate you.
Thank you so much for this! Give this man a medal for best teacher everrrr! I have never even held a Uke in my life, bought one, and in the first week, am now paying: In the Jungle, Have You Ever Seen the Rain, and Suspicious Minds, plus some barre cords, and multiple strum patterns. Even along with the cd's. IN ONE WEEK!
This was a game changer for me! I started playing ukulele in May, 2020. I've learned so much, really nailed down a lot of other skills, but couldn't land a proper barre chord for the life of me. Slowing down and going back to the basics really gave me an opportunity to see where I was going wrong (instead of skipping that one part of that song lol!). I can't wait to watch the rest of the series, happy playing and good vibes my friend. Thank you!
You're still very early in the game and already going through barre chords, that's great! You have to play them a little every day to build the comfort. If you're interested in more resources including practice tracks, zoom lessons, worksheets and charts, drop by my site and have a look. All the best - Kevin | allforuke.com
Hi, I’m 65 yo. Just beginning with ukulele. Absolutely love it. I have small hands. I have been struggling with bar chords. This lesson is great. Thank you 😊👍
I heard so many people say dont lay your finger flat and roll it on the side. Your the first who i have heard say make it really flat. Im gonna practice because i really wanna get this down. Ukulele means a lot to me and i cant afford lessons so youtube is all i got.
Bought a ukulele this January because I was told how easy it is to play. That C chord drew me in! But I have been fighting with several barre chords. I love your exercises! And your encouragement! Finally there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Thank you!!!!!
You can do it, April. Time, patience and determination go a long way. Which ones are you struggling with the most? I have some worksheets + exercises that I think would help over on my site if you’re ever interested in checking those out. Thanks for learning with me :) - Kevin www.allforuke.com/lessons
In some ways I find barre chords challenging but mostly they’re discouraging. Truthfully when I come across songs that contain them I move away. My goal is to become a decent player so I’m sticking with it. Your lessons and encouragement are greatly appreciated.
I found the channel 3 days ago for practising finger picking and now became an absolute fan of the way you teach everything…and also whenever you tell to smile I realise I’ve been frowning and tensing up the whole time and burst into a smile…I’ve your videos so much…❤️❤️
There are some good teachers on the internet, Terry Clark, Brandon Acker, Mike Lynch (deceased), but this guy, geez, his approach is fantastic---calm, clear, fun, supportive.
Thanks Kevin, you made Bb playable and taught me HOW. Much appreciate your attention to detail (holding Uke, a finer positions, slow practice & alternatives) I have been struggling with Barr e chords for many years, without understanding the basics that made them work. Look forward to practicing and your next lesson.
I really love how you teach, you dive straight into the lesson and not to much (blablabla) like some other teachers. I hated that chord and now I am “hopeful “ I did all of your fingerpicking days to and I learned so much! Thank you
This lesson is invaluable to me. I have so many songs that use Bb and have been really struggling with these old arthritis hands and extremely long fingers. Planning to try the proper way, seriously. If that doesn’t work out, your side note about barring the whole fret might help me make this chord work so I can enjoy playing more of my favorite songs. Thanks Kevin for all the hard work on the lessons to deliver and most of all thanks for reminding us to be gentle with our self criticism. It’s meant to be enjoyable not a chore. Right!
I’m a lefty learning the righty way. Have thought about restringing but probably get more confused. Challenging, placing fingers at same time on strings with plenty of direction by you. Perseverance.
Thank you so much. You are an excellent teacher and encourager. I have avoided barre chords and always felt like I didn't have the strength but you have given me encouragement to tackle the challenge step by step. I'm sticking with you and barre chords.
Started learning several days ago, and I can say, It's get better, slow, but gets. Kevin, I wanna say THANK YOU SO much for your support, I get more support from you than from anyone, tysm for your lesson. Thank to you, I see more progress. U r really the best teacher on Earth. I'm from Russia, but I watch you because you explain everything much better than any other teachers. Love u sm. I know, u don't believe u r great teacher, but you are. I love your smiling reminder. Tysm again I'm struggling with lending down all my fingers at the same time now.
75 not-out here in the UK, never have been able to do a barre chord in 50 years of trying on the guitar. I've a crooked index finger, the top joint bends towards the middle finger since I caught it in a fridge door as a child. And today - woohoo - I managed a moderately clean Bb. Full barre chord is still going to be a major challenge, but it's a start! Thanks so much.
Thank you Kevin that has really helped me to try and master this chord. I couldn`t help but look at the expressions on the faces of the dog and reindeer behind you.
Thank you so much for posting this barre chord series. Your videos have really helped me improve my ukulele skills. Your teaching method is very informative and easy to follow.
I bought my uke about a month ago and I've been learning to play it during the lockdown here in Colombia. I think I finally found my instrument. Your lessons are helping me a lot, thank you very much! P.S. I already took your strumming series, love it
Epic Topic Kevin! The best approach I've seen, very detailed (thumb position ...!) and the most progressive. With yours advices and a little patience, everyone will get there. A BIG thank you for explaining so well all this 😘!
Hello Kevin, Iwas going to try learning "Can"t Help Falling In Love". The sheet that has cords used does not specify the B7 cord. But there on page three the B7 comes up. So luckily you have these barre chord exercises. I'll just have to put the song aside for awhile. Thank you for the exercises. David K.
Hey there, a beginner here. Thanks for this video, it helps a lot though its a little bit frustrating because i have small fingers but i still want to enjoy it. Can't wait to watch day 2 after a week of practice 😅 Thanks again, God bless you more! PS: it's cool to have a dad like you✨
Hi KEVIN. Thanks again for another great series. You are a excellent teacher. I have tried barring with the tip of index finger To hard as I have a thumb that is permanently stiff from a ruined operation. But I will be able to Barr the full fret I hope so I will go with full Barre once again thank you for your channel I look forward to it every week. You are the best teacher on u tube Kind Regards from Western Australia 👏👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️
Hi Kevin, don't know what you'll think of this but due to a combination of short fingers and arthritic first joint on index finger, I found Bb a bit of a challenge to be honest, however I can get a reasonably consistent clean sound by using index on A, middle on E, ring on C and pinky on G, as it will reach that far. I am managing to cope with the chord changes you suggest, just. great lesson as always
Hi Kevin, after 25min I feel I will be able to play barre chords very soon, there are some dead notes now but I feel I can get rid of them slowly. Thanks for the great lessons.
Loving these lessons Kevin. Unfortunately where I live in Northern California we will be on a power outage, (for public safety reasons), for the next five days. So, when the power comes back on I'll be playing 'catch up'. Something to look forward to.
thank you Kevin for this lesson ! Even if this one is a bit too late for me (I manage quite well the Bb chord after a lot of work and patience), yours explanations are very usefull, same for the tricks. I was busy to look this video last week but, as the 2nd day lesson is out, I wanted to look at this one first. You're a good teacher, taking time for explanations and a very progressive way. Even for a non english locutor, yours lessons are really great and easy to follow ! Again, thank you from New-Caledonia.
forgot to add Im so glad you told me about the easy way for Bb as my index finger has been shortened due to an injury as well I cant lay it flat Thanks for that .
I force myself to practice barre chords, so this should be good. Looking forward to it. Maybe incorporate some of the strumming from that course into this as well?
Good idea - I actually incorporated one of the strums from the Kickstart Series that is very simple. Really trying to keep the rhythm simple so the focus is on the fretting hand.
i see from your pic that the thumb is higher on the neck. that seems to help. I have been working on barre chords and not having much success, now to get my other fingers to bend
This was a great lesson. Thank you for breaking the B chord down. I can play it and it sounds good, but I have a challenge keeping my index finder perpendicular to the fret board. It always slides down to about a 45 degree angle on the fret board. Any suggestions on how to keep it perpendicular?
Super great lesson, THANX! I would add that having a good setup on the instrument is so important. A lot of players are trying to play their ukulele fresh out of the box it came in without having it set up for ease of playing. Uneven frets? Too high string action? Problems like that can make barre chords a living hell! LOL
First time I've watched you. Very good and very patient and detailed. You are absolutely right about practicing this on the 5th or 7th fret. I kept getting muted E and A string once I tried to place my middle finger. But moving to the 5th fret was exactly as you said. Thank you.
Barre chords are a doozy! Thanks for learning with me 😎 If you’re interested in more learning tools, drop by my new site and check out my song sheet library. lesson PDFs, and practice tracks. I really think they’ll help you advance your skills faster! - Kevin | www.allforuke.com/Lessons
Hello, is there any good way to change between f and Bb or other Changes to not drop the uke whilst changing from Barre to normal Thumbplacement. Love your Tutorials
Nice, I get notified in email inbox the day before the your video comes out. I don’t get notification when it comes out. I have to remember and go looking for it. I just thought you may like to know that info. I am subscribed to your channel and it doesn’t always show up on my you tube home page.
What size is your uke? Tenor? I'm going to buy my first one now. Been going through your fingerpicking playlist on my friend's uke and your tutorials are the best. I was also able to impress said friend by playing the pink panther theme song, which i also learnt by following your video. Thank you, you're the best! I love your teaching style
Working hard on this, as I do want to get it right. But I was wondering, if I «barre» so to speak all the strings on the first fret, and use my index finger for the 2nd fret, 3rd string, and my ring finger for the3rd fret, 4th string, I do get the same sound and it's so much easier for me. I can do the barre chord with good sound on all the other frets, but have a hard time on the 1st fret....Is it wrong to do it that way? Love your teaching. Thank you!

Coming on nicely great video Kevin

Question: Has the spelling of “Barre” ever bothered you? Or are you just desensitized at this point.
Jimmy page misin abi?
I want to add - you’re teaching is so gentle - I feel peaceful and happy after your lessons. Thank you so much.
For time immemorial, I've suffered under the gaze of the loathsome Bb chord. But no longer! Kevin has bestowed upon me the tools to overcome it 🎉😂

Older gent here and I find the full barre with index easier... GR8 lesson and THNX!
Thanks for your encouragement and helpful videos.
I have been struggling with the barre chords OMG, was getting very discouraged , BUT now I have hope again all because of your lessons. Thanks Kevin!
I love how supported I feel watching this....thanks for giving me hope lol

Wow! You are an amazing teacher. You explain so well, in great detail. I am also a teacher (not ukulele), but I admire you!
Wow! A barre chord series! Yes!!! I need to catch up on your fingerpicking series
Thank you Kevin. I’ll keep trying after listening to your tutorial
You've been a great help to me as a beginner. Those tips are really something, thank you. More power
A thorough teacher really lucky to have come across this video and the teacher of course. Watching from mohali Punjab India 🙏🙏👍
Happy Thanksgiving to you Kevin and your family.

Awesome working hard on this one

I have always given up on Barre chords. No one explained it before in a way you did. Thanks
Awesome video. Absolutely loved the way you broke it down. Thank you so much.
❤I love your clear and methodically ordered way of teaching❤❤❤❤
THANK YOU!!! I FINALLY GOT IT!!!
starting day 2 tomorrow!!
Nice break down. Great teaching. Thanks 😊!
I love your tuition Kevin.
thank you Kevin. Love Miss Flo , Vancouver, BC. Canada
~Thank you sooooo-much for the way you teach us...enjoy watching...&...learning!! Love the stuffed-dogs in the back.🙂

HI Kevin, have you a barre chord series for baritone ukulele. Thank you Shirley
thank you Kevin for this lesson ! Solid video. What helped me get the Bb chord was to press slightly with the side of my index!
Sorry about my question....You gave me the answer when I got to the end of the tutorial... All is good!
forgot to add Im so glad you told me about the easy way for Bb as my index finger has been shortened due to an injury as well I cant lay it flat Thanks for that .
Amazing Kevin! Really helped 🙌🏾
I'm very slow with my muting but I'm keeping at it Thank you i really like you lessons looking for an easy" blowing in the wind "session ukulele
Great. Thank you. Really feel like I'm getting there.
Excellent class!!!
Argh....The dreaded barre chords! Such a helpful tutoria, thanks a lot! (my index finger is killing meeee!!)
I come back to do my revision!
i see from your pic that the thumb is higher on the neck. that seems to help. I have been working on barre chords and not having much success, now to get my other fingers to bend
You are a great teacher! Explained so well, hard to find.
Thanks Kevin I have a hard time with bar chords I think with this practical way to practice I will at least get the B chord down.
this was great Kevin, still didn't get it but trying. tnx
Thankyou Kevin. 🎶
Kevin, do have lessons of barre chords for the Baritone? cheers, kerry
This was a great lesson. Thank you for breaking the B chord down. I can play it and it sounds good, but I have a challenge keeping my index finder perpendicular to the fret board. It always slides down to about a 45 degree angle on the fret board. Any suggestions on how to keep it perpendicular?
Barbara Browning i have the same problem 😬 does anyone have any tips on how to fix this?
That’s my problem too, I’m thinking I might just have small hands lol, I can play it easily but not with the technique that he explained
Super great lesson, THANX! I would add that having a good setup on the instrument is so important. A lot of players are trying to play their ukulele fresh out of the box it came in without having it set up for ease of playing. Uneven frets? Too high string action? Problems like that can make barre chords a living hell! LOL
This one is kind of difficult. Fingers really hurt after some time but I am enjoying it anyway.
First time I've watched you. Very good and very patient and detailed. You are absolutely right about practicing this on the 5th or 7th fret. I kept getting muted E and A string once I tried to place my middle finger. But moving to the 5th fret was exactly as you said. Thank you.

Kevin Thank you for your patient great video on bar chords. I now no longer AVOID THEM!!!! Maureen in Montreal
Thanks, very informative, useful tips 😊👍👌
Much easier with the cheat portion thank you 😊
Hello, is there any good way to change between f and Bb or other Changes to not drop the uke whilst changing from Barre to normal Thumbplacement. Love your Tutorials

Would love a series of barre chords for the baritone
What size is your uke? Tenor? I'm going to buy my first one now. Been going through your fingerpicking playlist on my friend's uke and your tutorials are the best. I was also able to impress said friend by playing the pink panther theme song, which i also learnt by following your video. Thank you, you're the best! I love your teaching style
This is a tenor - thanks for learning with me!
I hated bar chords HATED! Bar Chords but you are right i need this thank you
Great informative video and so well explained Cheers Wal from O.Z
Ooooh this is rad, thanks for posting!
Thank you!
