- Visual tour of how I secure the mast and boom of my Catalina 22 sailboat for trailering. See my other videos on how to rig the boom as a gin pole and to step the mast.

Hope you do not travel with the outboard attached to the stern. This will cause a lot of wear on the transom due to bouncing on the lever end of the boat. I see a lot of this kind of damage on Catalina 22. I always remove the engine and place it in my truck.
Actually, I have traveled hundreds of miles with the motor attached and without any damage because I take precautions. I use two ratchet straps attached to the motor to take most of the weight off of the motor mount and transfer it to the stern cleats. I also have 2" aluminum angle backing plates on the inside of the transom to stiffen the area around the motor bracket and distribute the weight over a larger area. I agree, though, that not taking precautions like these can cause a lot of stress and wear on the motor mount or worse.
Nicely done. I've been spending way too much time lashing (wrapping&wrapping&wrapping&...) the mast when those blue & red straps look so much quicker.
I just stepped into the adventure and bought me a Catalina 22. I'm about to find out if I'm a DIYr not. Because I'm new I'm sure I'm going to make a ton of mistakes. I like your mask cradle. Do you have any drawings on how you made that cradle and the tools that you used?
Welcome to the C22 community! You can download a free, dimensioned fabrication drawing for the mast crutch if you're a subscriber (also free) to my website. For more information about the downloads, see stingysailor.com/downloads-faq/
@@stingysailor5677 the only thing I found was to subscribe to the blog. Is that what you mean when you say subscribe to the site
@@stingysailor5677 okay I'm subscribed. But I wasn't asking about the mast crutch, I was asking about the cradle that goes over the pulpit
@@michellenicholes2087 I don't have a drawing door that, sorry. I just took a scrap that I had on hand and cut notches for the mast to rest in and for the cradle to straddle the pulpit.
@@stingysailor5677what was the trick to cutting the angles where it fits over the pulpit. The tubing looks like it's in a downgrade and spreading whiter as it goes aft.
How heavy is the mast crutch? My buddy made me one but before I use it for trailering, I want to make sure it's not too heavy for the grudgeons.
The gudgeons can take far more weight than the mast crutch. Guys have hoisted and flipped their C-22s to work on the bottom suspended only by the bow eye and the gudgeons.
great eye for details, good logic
Hi @Stingy Sailor do you know what length the ball chords are?
I buy a couple of sets of these at a time, which often go on sale. They are a little short when new but lengthen over time until they are too loose and I buy more.

Can you recommend a source for the Vinyl Horse Fence? I have not had success finding the railing alone.
It might be a regional thing. Most big box home improvement stores here in the Northwest carry it. If yours don't, try a fencing supplier that specializes in rural fencing. Worst case, substitute a different material like PVC pipe. You can use wood too but it's heavier.
Stingy Sailor Thank you for the response. I will do that. Or I may order some starboard and copy a design from a certain Catalina parts dealer.
