    Great explanation!
    I keep a Lithium 9 volt battery in my peak kit because I sometimes don’t use it for a few months and Lithium batteries are good for sitting around. Also they are much less likely to leak. The Coaxial Dynamics slugs are usually a bit cheaper than Bird slugs and they work fine, as you know.
    Back in the 70’s I got tired of the CBers arguing about what kind of power their radios put out. Some insisted that the new 40 channel radios weren’t as powerful. So I bought my first Bird 43. They are the industry standard and settled the arguments. The manuals have a chart to figure out SWR numbers, but it is online too.
    I love Bird 43 wattmeters because I can trust them and I can check wattage and SWR on any ham or CB band I have, all with one meter.👍

      @@3madeamps we have insomnia buddy. I am in pain and depression and anxiety. I do my best some days are better than others. Do you have any meters for sale? Best explanation I've heard. I had a guy ask how to hook a driver to another amp and I told him I'd he's so green to ask that he didn't need to do it until he had a little more experience with amps because he would be wasting some big money just not knowing. Maybe one day someone will make that video sometime but I doubt it.

    Sometimes the 25W slug throws me for a loop on the low side under 5W. Was thinking of getting a 10W to make it a quicker read on the bottom scale.

      @@3madeamps I'm not so smart - I left my dang peak kit on yesterday ! IF you have a 25 and a 10 could you test if I am right? 25W slug on top scale the last big dash under 5W would be 1W ? Thanks brother !

    25, 50, 100. Where did that come from? Think about it this way. A 50 watt slug is 25 x 2. A 100 watt slug is 50 x 2. Each higher scale is double the previous scale.

    If you put the line section on the back of the amp , does the coax length from the line section to your next piece of equipment matter ? Does it have to be “nulled” to 1/4 or 1/2 wave or does it not matter if it’s 4 foot or 10 foot , etc ? And if you don’t have any other meters or equipment inline , and it’s just the amp , and the line section, the coax from the line section goes from there , to wherever you mount the actual round meter ? But there’s no SO-239 connector on the round meter ?? So you have to cut the line section coax and use those two lugs , coax shield to the ground side , center conductor to the hot ?

    • @3madeamps
      @3madeamps  Рік тому +1

      the coax from line section to meter ....no

    • @keithweiss7899
      @keithweiss7899 Рік тому +4

      Don’t confuse the coax going to the meter with the RF section. The coax that hooks to the meter carries DC voltage. The slug has the diode and such that changes the RF to DC and, at the meter, the coax separates and screws onto the rear of the meter, just like any meter. Bird uses coax from the meter to the line section so that stray RF doesn’t enter the meter and slug circuitry and mess them up.

      @@keithweiss7899 Thank you for that info ! Makes more sense why the long meter runs not having issues with RF ! Learned something new ! 👍

    Really sad that I watch to get information on a watt meter and get the whole thing seasoned with disrespectful, angry political preaching. This would be unacceptable from either party. Read the Bird meter.
