What a great comparison video for anyone who’s having difficulty deciding which to go for..my conclusion is any one, or all..slight edge perhaps the polar 42, although I watched some short videos on the Rolex UA-cam channel recently and the polar expedition team had the black 42 surprisingly..although it stood out nicely…Considering parting with some of my collection this year to make room, but the Explorer II is a keeper..
A very enjoyable, calm and professional presentation! I have a 6.75" wrist and I have tried on the 42mm Explorer at my AD. It is too large for my wrist. While I have never worn the 40, I think it would fit my wrist perfectly. And I definitely prefer the polar dial.
I chose the 226570 polar. I already have an Explorer 39mm MK2 with its black face and smaller dimensions so I saw Explorer II polar 42mm as giving me a high contrast set within the Explorer family.
Hi Johnathan , enjoying your videos , especially this one as I was fortunate enough to pick the Polar dial up from my AD in October last , a prosperous New Year to you and yours .
42mm polar dial for me. The upgrades with the matte hands and longer power reserve are really nice! And even though it's 42mm it feels great on my 7" wrist but I also prefer a larger watch. Thanks for the review!
I can wear both and like both colours. Love the 40 polar and what a great example you have there, but oh! those bracelets and clasps. Modern Rolex have come so far with bracelets,
I have the 40m 16570 in black - which of the 40mm I prefer the black, but also have a 2022 polar 22650. At the 40mm I prefer black, of the 42mm polar all the way. I love the hint of orange against the white. To me it's more "fresh" but hands down, I kept the 40mm because I love it so much.
The clasp doesn’t belong to an Explorer II , but to a Submariner , check out the lenght ! and compare it to other 16570 and GMT MASTER ‘s 16710 ( shares the same bracelet) and you see what i mean . And there is no evidence that Steve McQueen wear ever an Explorer . Cheers .
42 and it’s a tough call between black and white dials they both have their own character. Possibly depends what else you have in your collection. Nice presentation. 42 is a great size. Big bold watch without being silly chunky.
Unfortunately that clasp on the 16570 white dial is not correct for that model . The clasp is a submariner style clasp , must of been changed over the years
Excellent video, with great comparisons across a number of watches from earlier years to present. I have the Polar 226570 which is the only white dial watch in my collection so I absolutely love it and much prefer it being 42mm. I have a 6.5 inch wrist and it sits and looks really well.
I have a black 42mm. At first I liked the white one more and I really wanted it, but after trying it on my wrist, the black one turned out to be much prettier, elegant and classic. White just didn't fit but I understand people who want Polar. Great video👍
i was 50/50 on the colours both look great but chose the polar as i have a few black dials great looking watch. the 42 is a perfect fit as i have a 7.5 inch wrist even my superocean 44 looks a bit small 😛😛nice review with a bit of history.
Easy to check too. Just set the hour hand and see if the GMT hand wobbles. If it does, it's a 3185. If it doesn't, it's a 3186. For the 216570, the 3187 is used, which is a slightly upscaled version of the 3186 to fit the case. The 226570 has the 3285 movement. 31xx movements are set clockwise. 32xx movements are set counter-clockwise. I personally prefer movements that are set clockwise, but the matte dial and hands on the 226570 might convince me to accept the newer movement. I don't care about the power reserve. The 3186 or 3187 movements are my favorite GMT movements.
Bonjour Monsieur, je voulais vous remercier pour vos vidéos qui m’ont permis de choisir une très belle montre la Rolex SubMariner126613LB que j’ai choisi grâce à vos conseils Merci, on attendons d’autres vidéos de votre part
Here's the differences between the 216570 and the 226570: 216570 || 226570 3187 movement || 3285 movement 21mm lug width || 22mm lug width Bracelet taper to 17mm || Bracelet taper to 18mm Gloss dial || Matte dial Gloss hands || Matte hands For the rest the watches are identical.
@@edinburghwatchcompany247 Thank you very much for the education. Since learning this I did further research and find it interesting how the word “Rolex” starts on stops on the right side of the rehaut as compared to the left side. Best regards.
42mm all day its a beauty😍

Definitely not too large for a 6.75" wrist..

40mm white 👌
Recently got a 2024 Polar. Love how it's so legible. The indices pop and so do the hands and bezel. Love it!
Congrats!
Like the older ones, I also think the white dial is one for me, Good video.
But would not turn down the newer one's.
Hi Johnathan , enjoying your videos , especially this one as I was fortunate enough to pick the Polar dial up from my AD in October last , a prosperous New Year to you and yours .
42mm !
You cant go wrong with any of those pieces. A great collection and great video, as always.
As always Johnathan great video.
Hi Jonathan my choice is 42mm Polar dial as I like a bigger watch. Great video pls keen them coming as it’s always a pleasure to see your watches. 👍👏

The 42 polar is the absolute best , the upgrades and fit, feel great on my 6.75 wrist , love it
Nice video, I recently purchased bot 226570 black and white dials versions, so I'm kinda leaning towards black a bit more.
I have had 3 black faced ones since the late 80s and is the only Rolex i would buy
42mm Polar Dial for me….is crisp, solid and the big Orange hand stands out beautifully.
Well done walk through of early and later versions of each era.
42 and it’s a tough call between black and white dials they both have their own character. Possibly depends what else you have in your collection. Nice presentation. 42 is a great size. Big bold watch without being silly chunky.
Jonathan, great video as always. My preference is not available: 2216570 in a 40mm. That would be a grand slam IMHO!
Exceptionally useful for any potential buyer, thank you.
Your watch is not “Unworn” any longer.
Unfortunately that clasp on the 16570 white dial is not correct for that model . The clasp is a submariner style clasp , must of been changed over the years
It was actually supplied when new and was an option offered by the dealer. We know this as it was written in the original receipt of purchase.
@@edinburghwatchcompany247 happy days 👍🏻

Thank you. Both nice watches. Think I’d need to toss a coin to choose:)

The black dial explorer 2 is a 3186 movement
Thank you
Totally agree 👍

Some said that the new 226570 bezel size is 41.4mm and a bit shorter male endlink to endlink at 52.8mm..?

What is a “Rehort” dial?
The watch has an inner silver ring with the serial number engraved on it along with the Rolex name many times
@@edinburghwatchcompany247 Thank you. Is the term “Rehort” correct?
@ It is Rehaut Keith

Excellent video, thank you very much 👏
Had the 42 in black ,the hands looked like they were painted by a 5 year old.Sold it and bought a 40 mm polar prefect size for a smaller wrist.
42 is looks a little bit cartoony so black 40 is my choice
One of my wish list fav 💙
I like ghe look of the 42, but the 40 fits my wrist better, going with the 40, il have enkigh money in about 8 years
It's good to have goals in life.
you show an unworn coral OP ........as you're wearing it!! 😂
I was just about to comment the same. 😂😂😂
Rolex Explorer 11? I thought they only went to II.
