This is cool.. I've been trying to see how i can use my Plugins on my friends Computer.. he doesn't have the Plugins i have. This is one of the best videos i've seen that made it easy to understand..
A couple of things I ran into and got help from Waves support with... apparently all USB sticks are not created equally. I'm working on Mac. The instructions say to format the stick to FAT32... the Waves tech support person I spoke to said it you can format it to Mac if you're only moving between Mac machines. I successfully formatted a couple of USB sticks, but Waves Central did not recognize them. After trying a third stick that was 4G (the others were 1G and 2G) it worked. That's kind of sad considering the licenses don't take up much room on the stick, but oh well. The Waves tech person said if Waves Central does not recognize a particular USB stick to simply try a different one. That was what worked for me. Hopefully it saves someone else a few hours of their time!
Make sure you have the Plugins installed in your second computer :) thanks for all your Vids Music Help Guy - I nearly gave up on Logic X after being a die hard fan of Logic since the early days of Emagic and even C Lab ! - but your vids helped me overcome the big changes that came with X ...big thank you
@MusicTechHelpGuy Nice tutorial! Thanks for posting. Can you please test if a cloned thumb drive of Waves licenses also works in the mixdown? If so, that would be a really reliable and useful backup. Thanks again!
Here's one for ya - but a little background first: My machine has a 500GB SSD with Windows 10 on it. I have an additional hard drive on which I have installed most of my programs (the E: drive). I say "most" because some programs will only allow you to install onto the C: drive - but that's not really an issue. Furthermore, by no means have I "programmed" Windows 10 to recognize both the C: and E: drives. It had a clean re-install onto the SSD due to it getting filled up too quickly with both the OS and programs. So at the risk of being redundant, the OS is on the C: drive, and my DAWs (Cubase 7 - 9.5 Pro), and the majority of my recording plugins reside on the E: drive. I started having problems with Waves Central when they rolled out v10. The day before, all of my plugins were v9 and just fine; however, when I bought a new plugin and attempted to install it, I was pushed to update to v10. Suddenly, all of the Waves plugins refused to function. My calls to Waves have resulted in mostly "chasing the dragon" of the existing installation, despite my suggestion that perhaps both v9 and v10 could be manually downloaded, unzipped and installed on the C: drive (It is the current belief of Waves that the plugins will only work if they are loaded onto the C: drive - never mind that it was all working just fine when I only had v9. This machine is the only one that I use for recording purposes, so I don't necessarily need the portability of a USB drive, but if it will allow me to use my Waves plugins, I'm willing to sacrifice one of my USB drives exclusively for that purpose. What do you think? Thanks!
Ok, so here's my question... Whenever I place a sample onto my MIDI keyboard and save it to my Sample Instruments I run into a problem later on when I try to access this exact sample on another computer... For instance, I lay drum samples on a MIDI keyboard and save it to my "Sample Instruments". I record my music on the track and save the project to my hard drive as "Drum Pattern" . When I go to another studio I plug my hard drive into a different computer and I open up my project "Drum Pattern". When I open it, a screen comes up that says "The Following Instruments Are Not Found" and Logic automatically replaces my "Drum Sample" that I placed in a specific order on my keyboard with something else because it's not found in my library or something. Where exactly do I save my sample settings so they can be accessed on another computer using my drive????
If you're using pro tools then u got to plug the ilok n the flash drive too right??? To get the plugins n pro tools to work... ohhh.... two ports of the laptop already used....
Hey Music TechHelpGuy, how can I get my licences which are on my 'disconnected devices' onto a connected device? My pc automatically became disconnected I don't know why
It’s not possible. I tried to copy the info from my flash drive to my desktop and it simple doesn’t work without the flash drive. It’s a weird struggle
Please if someone knows answer this quickly need help now! Waves central does not detect my external harddrive by some cause (Waves support said it was because it had a different language as name) but i changed it to english letters so it would work. But stil no detection of my drive. Now my question is, do if i download it on another USB drive, do you need to have it in while using the plugins? Im on a laptop with a small amount of usb ports so that would not be good for me.. Ty for any kind of serious answer.
Waves Central gives every customer 1 free plug-in recover per year. I had a similar issues where I had a computer die on my and I couldn't access my waves plug-ins to transfer them over to another computer. In Waves central I recovered all my plug-ins, and then moved them over to my new computer. I would move them over to your laptop rather than a USB drive if you're worried about using up USB spots.
MusicTechHelpGuy ty for the fast answer! but i have two computers. one at home and one laptop. But have some difficulties logging in to waves on the computer at home.. so thats why i need the licence on a usb drive :/
Funny how nothing on the Waves site is as helpful as this video. Thank you!
Been watching you for years! Your videos Help alot thanks mate :)
Simple and easy instructions...great description! Thank You. Worked perfectly.
Does this same method work for external hard drives too?

Thanks, sure bests a phone call to Wave tech support
So can you still use the USB flash drive for other stuff too?
could I clone the USB stick (ID,ser.no) to backup my liscenses...so WAVES recognizes it as the original usb stick?
So you can use the flashdrive **or** just keep them on your computer?
(I don't **have** to have the flash drive?)

Will this work the same between a desktop PC and a macbook pro
Great vid! Would have been even easier tho if waves weren´t so greedy and distrustful with their licenses:)
Can it be used with any plugins? beside waves.
thank you dad
is there anyway to share pluggins with someone else on a seperate computer
Do I need a iLok key?
Probably alredy answered this question, but could you create a copy of the usb info after you have all your licenses on it? In case you loose the USB?
So is it possible?
It’s not possible. I tried to copy the info from my flash drive to my desktop and it simple doesn’t work without the flash drive. It’s a weird struggle

you can use any flash driver! this is not iLok or eLicenser.
You can't put the licenses in the Ilok. Can you?
I think as of Waves V7, you can no longer use iLoks.
I like and hate this system lol
Not worth it
The dumbest system ever.
Great video thanks🎉
