Can't wait until we see them again at our feeders this Spring. We had never seen them before until a few years ago. Now when May rolls around, here in New Jersey, we look forward to seeing them and the Ruby Throated Humming birds at our feeders !

We had a large population of Indigo Buntings at a wetland area off the Potomac river this year. They suddenly disappeared on Monday, August 20 and haven't been heard or seen since. Isn't this a bit early for migration?

Oh birds are already migrating this year quite early. There are already reports of planted buntings in south Fl.

Saturday a ton on Warblers came thru here in NJ. This morning one of the rescues was a male Indigo Bunting that my friend found so I'm sharing your video with him. We take the injured birds to The Raptor Trust (TRT) in Millington NJ, as they provide excellent care and treatment to give them best chance of recovery.

Thanks for rescuing him! Did he make it? Almost all the warblers are gone here but we’ve still got some moving through. I bet you guys have all the good birds by now! We will miss them for the summer🫤

@@FloridaKeysBirding Thanks for asking, yes the Indigo Bunting made it and was released. This morning there was another big fall out, but my friend Pete who drives me to Newark NJ & drives the birds to The Raptor Trust in Millington had work meetings starting early today so we had to leave Newark at 7:00am. We rescued 17 birds (most were Ovenbirds) so many were dead, has to be traumatic for the injured to see this. Birds were still hitting the glass buildings when we left, we felt so bad leaving. Crows, Seagulls and Feral cats are aware that certain buildings have easy meals which is not really nature as without the buildings the dead/injured would not be on the sidewalks.

Omg that’s awful😭 is there anything that can be done to prevent these window strikes? I know the tall buildings are a huge problem along with light pollution. I wish they could do something to put stickers on these buildings to prevent this. This makes me to sad to hear that.

@@FloridaKeysBirding Yes it is sad. Hear the slogan 'lights out' but in our experience it is not the lights on the buildings we find birdss even when lights out, though lights might be issue in other cities. In Newark it is the solid glass buildings ( cheap to build) and the trees in the lobby and/or outside reflecting image on to the glass. I did hear that Stickers do work, and even regular yellow highlighters can draw designs that birds see or soap. Most of the office buildings are rented to companies so excuse for them to do nothing. One building did take out a long panting of trees under a walkway, and it lessened the number of birds hitting dramatically.

@@anitacoogan4822 man I wish there was more we could do. I supposed for now we can just keep spreading awareness to our local cities and businesses in hopes that one day people will come around or lawmakers will hear us! I work in my local area to get the word out, but it’s a team effort that we can all wherever we live❤️ so glad to hear there are people up north trying to save birds and thank you for all the work you do for them!
