This is a bit of fun and madly bonkers but it is very well done because you are one of a few who takes time to explain details of the Akto tent so good for you. Thank you.
Yeah nuts eh lol glad you saw funny side of it as intended lol a few don't get it lol 😆 their loss 😉 it was ridiculous fun to do and completely made up as I went along and I actually did intend to give a few marks to akto in my original thought process at home but once I started I changed that to make it ridiculous 😄
That was a great bit of fun. I have a sneaking suspicion that if one of the tests was to determine which shelter had the best hilleberg label sewn on it, the supermid may have won lol.
Hello Tony 😄 Revisiting this one as I've been spending some time in a budget mid lately and have really enjoyed it. Now I was considering a Trail Star originally but this has got me thinking about an MLD mid instead as I can only afford one at the moment. Which one though ? Space is the thing I like best about them and the way you can sit with the doors open but you are still back inside under cover. Duomid XL ?? Cheers 😁
That is probably a very good option Duomid XL as you suggest it's nice to be able to sit up and like you and you will have heard me say it's great to sit inside with feet outside inner but under cover and a view is great so the duomid xl sounds good choices for you. I'm sure it'll be strong too. Let me know how it goes just remember lead times are very long so patience needed
@@TonyHobbs Thanks Tony. Yes, from watching your video on the standard duomid it looks a little tight regarding leg room when sitting with legs towards the door. Appreciate your advice. Cheers 😁
Just remember the XL is bigger behind pole ie where feet wet kit etc goes in front of pole is same as or very very similar to duomid. If you want a lot of room get supermid lol
Have you been to iceland Tony? I'm debating bringing my Slingfin 1p or investing in either the Akto (heavier) or MLD Duomid. Not sure which woudl survive wind the best without tons of weight.
Had to look it up looks similar to MSR shelters Hilleberg Enan lighter. But Duomid with inner if midges are around (?) Good option. Light and spacious. Never been to Iceland. I'd like to get to Sweden if a friend is able to meet me there for a few days next year.
How windy are you expecting and will sheltered spots be available Another option. MLD Trailstar with inner if midges or no inner just groundsheet unless snow falling....
@@TonyHobbs It's always a bit of a gamble, but the main problem with iceland is that there will be few sheltered type areas, very wide open, and can hit extremely high winds. Obviously at some point any tent will fail but want to find something decent. Example storm: ua-cam.com/video/O255e1-NgzI/v-deo.html - "In the highlands, wind speeds reach 18 m/s (40 mph) on 50 days a year."
Ha ha, best comparison ever ! The best score was no. 9, the exercise point ! Absolutely love it. Keep up the good work ! By the way, what kind of trousers do you wear in this video ?
after seeing your video, I was quite distessed. Mostly because I just bought an Akto before I saw this. Now I have to face the question, do I bite the chalk and go on with a coffin or spend many times more for a supermid?
I don't understand your videos recently. Why are you doing this Supermid praise in almost every video? The Akto is a super tent. I have it together with a Nallo 3 GT and those two fits my needs. The Akto is too low but it is the only negative ting you can say about that tent, period. You should see it as a light and rugged tent. The Supermid is only a light and triangular shaped tarp, sorry to say ;-)
Claus Frølund . Claus, in the end Tony gave the edge to the SuperMid, 10 vs 0 to the Akto. Clearly, the Akto is not in the Rolex Class. I only wish he had recognised the importance of installing the inner in the SuperShilter. His Dad told him, do it right and do it once.
The Akto will look after you I good weather and bad; the crinkly plastic tent looks like it would be very cold and I couldn’t live with the colour. Each to his own … 🙂
oh indeed and when you watch more from here you'll see that crinkly plastic wrapper in many a video camp lol its amazing. indeed the akto is great nice tent as is all Hilli stuff. But I am an MLD light weight cuben fan boy lol thank you for watching and hopefully you enjoyed the lighthearted video and unusual style here, we a bit odd for sure., See you around again....
God knows I know that cramped Akto feeling but you are comparing a single skin tent experience with the double walled Akto . You will have redo the entire filming again.... but this time in the Akto single skin mode. I have both the Akto & Soulo and tend to use the Akto between the Spring & Autumn equinox but rarely mid summer when I go bivy bag mode . With the Soulo as my go to Winter tent. I have used the Soulo single skin with bivy bag in the Pyrenees for months at a time and it was a palace. I cannot see why the Akto would be much different in that configuration.
@@TonyHobbs Fair enough In your defence the supermid looks great and would be the perfect tent for a up and down coastal walk in my opinion . However when at least a couple of the 4 horsemen of the apocalypse are on the mountain I would prefer a vampiric nights rest in the Akto although breaking camp is always miserable in the Akto.
@@dorkcork579 if five horsemen are around I'll take trailstar lol Hopefully folks will watch video in its entirety lol and its pretty clear it's a daft fin competition lol Two horsemen I'll take supermid ;)
Tony, thank you for this very interesting, but completely invalid comparison ! My eagle-eyes spotted that one tent had an inner tent, and the other didn’t. For a fair comparison, you could have removed the inner of the Akto, providing a much more spacious accommodation. I’m confident that nobody on God’s earth would do that as nobody wants the wind whistling around their bag, although you promote this with your MLDs. So, you need to re-run the second half of this video with an inner inside the Super-Mid to avoid it being disqualified. Akto 10-0 Super-Mid.
Tony Hobbs I am nuts, I bought one of those DCF shelters for pot-holers on your repeated recommendation, ya know the MLD Trailstar. Sold it after a month. Feckin’ thing !
Tony Hobbs Maybe my prejudice comes from the years before built-groundsheets and £1,000 sleeping bags were common. Nights of shivering, wet feet, mice nibbled food, black beetles and slugs on my face. Oh, how I miss those days. :-) I understand the TS is useful on cross-America trails, but you only go on Dartmoor, 20 minutes from your car. You could drag a trailer-tent out there ! :-)
@@Super.Quasar I dont wish to drag anything and distance is immaterial (it's a bit more than 20) I could use TS anywhere almost and I have used it in a storm (check back many years please) The ts is unmatched imo and if I had one and only one shifter for anywhere it would be ts. Other than spin drift snow btw. For other uses the smid gives space lol lots of it.
Hi Tony, that was a bit of fun. But I have a question for you about the pole in the mid, what is the weight of it, and where did you get it from. Also, love the dogs attention to you, listening to every word and being rewarded with a rub on the head. Classic. Anyway thanks...
Thank you, but you probably don't know how good it is. It has been used in very harsh conditions. I'd recommend it every anything, due to space and weight. Especially height. There are limitations but all can be overcome. I hope you will hang around for other videos...
Nice to see you wearing your sub naturally as Indeed I do. They’re tool watches not safe queens Nice review, just wish I watched this before, as I’ve acquired a. coffin ⚰️
