    Hello from New Zealand, I ride a Triumph Thunderbird 1600cc, bought a pair of these and love them, as you say more protection than a tour boot, as have a dropped left foot they also help you walk better, better feel, and makes for better confidence when riding or when stationary, great for walking in too, the height is great, highly recommend for cruiser style bikes

    Hi Tony - great videos. Planning some remote high altitude adventure touring, using Royal Enfield Himalayans, where tarmac will give way to gravel, rocky tracks and possibly deep mud at times. Have wide feet. I’m thinking the Gaerne Dakars - thoughts?

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  2 роки тому

      Hmm. Either would be OK, but I think the Sidis' extra bracing might be a bit more suited to that terrain. Really it'll come down to fit. Neither Sidi nor Gaerne are known for suiting wide feet so I'd suggest trying on a pair of each before making your decision. Thanks for getting in touch and I hope that helps. Cheers, Tony

    I am considering these or the Gaerne Dakar. Will either of these fit under a pair of riding jeans?
    Thanks!

      Hi, assuming you mean denim riding jeans? There are some with a wide enough leg to go over a pair of adventure boots like these or the Gaerne G-Dakar, but you'll most likely need to choose a pair for this purpose as in my experience most denim jeans won't fit over boots like this. Hello - I rode around the world with AlpineStar Tech 3, trainers and flip flops (2 years camping and biking). I have another long ride and looking at this boot because I want to be able to walk around in the boots and not clomp about like I am in ski boots again - but have a solid stiff sole for standing on the rally pegs for 5-7 hours a day . What do you think about these Sidi Adventure boots? Can I do the technical stuff in deserts and scree mountains ? Thanks

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  Рік тому

      Hi Rupert, I wouldn't want to do 'proper' walking in these boots. They are designed more for the technical stuff on the bike than clambering up mountains. I can't think of anything that will give you the ability to do both activities, sorry. It needs a manufacturer to make a two-part boot where the ankle brace can be detached to allow more freedom for walking. Good luck with the ride - sounds fun. Cheers, Tony

    Thanks for that. One question: How tight should you set the closing clasps? Initially I thought tight - like ski boots. Then, after trying it, I slackened them off - so there's a wee bit of wiggle on the clasps

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  3 роки тому

      I'd say it depends how busy you'll be on the bike. If it's just general road riding then keeping them fairly slack will be fine. If you're going to be more active, such as off-roading, then having them a bit tighter will help so you don't get your feet and ankles moving around inside the boots. Thanks for getting in touch, and I hope that helps. Cheers, Tony

    Gaerne Dakar Vs Sidi ADV 2? Confused between these two options...Please help. I ride a Royal Enfield Interceptor 650...

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  2 роки тому +2

      Think of all adventure boots as being on a scale from motocross boot at one end and simple touring boot at the other. The Sidis are further towards the motocross end with more substantial bracing around the ankle. The Gaerne boots are slightly more towards the road end - they still have the ankle brace, but it's lighter than the Sidi boots. I think either would be fine on an Interceptor, but you probably don't need the support of the Sidis if you would rather have some extra flexibility. Thanks for getting in touch, and I hope that helps. Cheers, Tony

    Excellent video Tony. I’ve just bought the black leather version of these. I’m assuming that the leather part of the boot is genuine leather? If so would you recommend a dubbin pretreatment before use and regular treatment thereafter?

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  2 роки тому

      The majority of the upper is made from microfibre, a synthetic leather, so no need to worry about treating it - just keep it clean using water, a brush and a microfibre cloth. There are sections of suede and you could use something like this to prolong its life... www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorcycle_parts/content_prod/498019. Thanks for getting in touch, and I hope that helps. Cheers, Tony

      @@sportsbikeshop Thanks Tony, I’ve got that stuff already for walking boots, but I’ve got the leather variant, not the suede version. Around the toe for example appears to be leather..is it actually a micro fibre that looks like leather?

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  2 роки тому

      Yes, that's the case - the original Sidi Adventure Gore-Tex were leather, but the updated model uses microfibre, a leather lookalike. Cheers, Tony

    Are they impact protection rated?

    • @sportsbikeshop
      @sportsbikeshop  7 місяців тому

      There are no markings to suggest these boots have passed the optional tests within CE for impact protection at the ankles or shins. Thanks for getting in touch. Cheers, Tony
