    Hello Josh. Great video! Excellent work btw. I'm planning on installing a vinyl fence myself next year. Figured we could redeem a slam dunk quote withal we were getting a betwixt wave of qotes from 8k to12k. Like yourself we decided to do ourselves. Our yard is approximately 5000 square feet. We're looking at between 2k or more for materials. Once funds free up and spring arrives. I'll be getting to work. Fortunately I've some experience installing a fence. My late father back in the day taught me the exercise in setting in posts. Such a self great project to carry-out that will save you a ton of money. Your video gave me more insight and inspiration! Thanks for watching and thank you so much for your kind words. Good luck to you on your project! You can definitely save a lot of money doing it yourself. It really isn’t that bad. The only thing I hate is when I run into roots that the auger won’t dig through. Then I have to break out the pick axe. I am way to fat and out of shape to swing that thing. But it is easy to push through to save the money. I wish you the best and let me know if you have any questions.

    Looks good! How has the fence held up 2 years later? I'm doing my initial research to build one and I've seen multiple people say to use bags(plural) of concrete per post and to make sure they're 2.5+ ft in the ground.

  • @rodkeffer9310
    @rodkeffer9310 3 роки тому

    I just purchased the exact same product. I’m concerned about the bottom of the post and recommended hole depth. Every expert I’ve seen say minimum 2 feet. But I don’t believe this emblem post is even 24 inches to bottom of rail. More like 21 inches and this puts rail rt on the ground. I’m going to call freedom and discuss because it doesnt seem rt. I’ve also been told to fill hole to 2 inches below hole top with concrete - then backfill with dirt. Probably 2 or 2 1/2 bags of concrete. I hope it all holds up for you. Thanks for the video.

      @joshdoesreefing7241  3 роки тому +1

      It is easy to do. I had to do it in a couple of spots. I forget the measurement of each panel/insert, but you can measure it and trim off the runners by that amount. So if you need to take off 2’ and each panel is 6”, then just cut 4’ off the main two runners and leave out the 4 panels. The only thing I ran into when doing that is you will lose the little ears/tabs on one end of the runner, but it still works. Hope that makes sense. I will try to do a video if I have time.

      They do indeed. Mine says on the instructions that no internal support is to be used unless it is the gate post and you use the aluminum inserts for that. They make the post an odd size that no standard wood post will fill the inside.

  • @liz9123
    @liz9123 3 роки тому +1

    So you dont need wood posts?

    • @joshdoesreefing7241
      @joshdoesreefing7241  3 роки тому

      Nope, they won’t work. They sell aluminum inserts you add for gates, but that is it.

    • @joshdoesreefing7241
      @joshdoesreefing7241  3 роки тому +1

      So the thing is that wood post are either 4x4 or 6x6 and the actual size is less than that.
      The Freedom post are designed so that neither fit inside. The 6x6 are to big and 4x4 just bounces around in it. Also, it states on instructions that they are not used.
      Now I am just going by this one brand I installed. I am sure some brands of vinyl fence may require it. The Freedom fence at Lowe’s does not.

      @@joshdoesreefing7241 could you do a video showing your gate with some advice for installing it? I'm trying to figure out how to do a double gate with the Freedom gates. What supports the gates where they meet?

    • @joshdoesreefing7241
      @joshdoesreefing7241  3 роки тому +1

      I do not currently have a video for the gates and already have mine done.
      For the any Freedom gates, you buy the aluminum insert sleeve to go inside the post. You buy a gate kit to do a single and two gate kits to do a double. You will also need to buy a panel kit for each gate. They are not to difficult, but require some cutting. The max opening size I believe was 5 ft per gate. So a double could be 10ft. They do not require supports in the middle as they are supported by the post/inserts. You can buy different latches to lock the gates.

    Thanks for the video! How deep do you dig the holes? I feel like the holes should be 2ft deep but on Lowes website it was the posts are 9ft long which doesnt make sense to me. Also, do you use the slide in metal rail's any where: on the ends where a gate will be, on the corners, etc.. ?? Thanks!

    • @joshdoesreefing7241
      @joshdoesreefing7241  2 роки тому +1

      To be honest, I never actually measured the depth of the holes. I just guessed and stuck the post in to gauge, then continued digging as needed. I would say it is about two feet.
      I only used the metal inserts in the gate post. Didn’t use them anywhere else.
      I started my backyard fencing project at the end of 2017 and have had no issues. Fence is holding strong and I am still glad I went with it.

      @@joshdoesreefing7241 thank you! One more question: I’m going to put in a 5ft gate but Lowe’s doesn’t have the gates available until the end of October, so basically I will be installing the fence and then later adding the gate, I worried about setting the gate posts because I won’t have the gate to measure and be 100% sure it will for sure fit. What would you do in this situation, just wait to set the gate posts until the gate is in hand?

    • @joshdoesreefing7241
      @joshdoesreefing7241  2 роки тому +1

      I would measure the 5’ opening and add 1/2” on each side. Then set the post for that measurement. The gate kit requires you use a panel kit. So you will be cutting to fit anyway. I put my gate post up first and the cut/installed the gate.
