Victor Davis Hanson has been a puzzle for years Steve..I remember him favoring the ideology Sparta against the democracy of Athens in the Peloponnessian War..He alarmed me years ago with his talks at the American Enterprise Institute and Harry Kreisler Conversations with History..After hearing him I did not believe him to be a fan of the US Constitution..That was more than 10 years ago..

Never heard of Hanson before, but he wrote a book praising the Trump presidency in 2019 so that's enough to tell me I do not want to read his work even his history books.
I love the Crombie mystery series. I think they are more akin to Elizabeth George's Lynley series than Anne Perry, but I haven't read many of the Perry books.
I haven't read the Congo book, but I have the ebook so I am interested to see what you think.

I live in a neighborhood pocked with "Don't Tread on Me" flags and in each of those houses is an extreme right wing pit bull. My little 8 lb. left-leaning rat terrier doesn't stand a chance. We do treadmills and Netflix, thank you.

Damn, a depressed, left leaning rat terrier must land high on the intersectionality chart.

It was an outer garment of some kind that you wore over your normal clothes in order to provide an extra layer of insulation against the cold. In Ye Olden Times, winters in Boston were not only cold but SNOWY, if you can believe that.

The publicist for Professor Nicolas Orme's book does him no favours. He is an Emeritus Professor of history at Exeter University. He specialises in the medieval and Tudor history. He is intersted in ecclesiastic and the history of children, as you know. He is published by Yale in London and Connecticut. I think the London covers are often different from the US editions. I hope I'm not reaching a 28 year old hottie how to suck eggs.

Well, I didn't think the US cover for "Tudor Children" was all that bad! But yes, this particular pub sheet had delusions of grandeur!

@@saintdonoghue nor me, it was fine. You are absolutely right about the pub. sheet.

Gosh, i had never heard of Victoria Davis Hansen until your video today. I looked him up and he remains pro-Trump. This is exactly what I cannot fathom; how someone who is smart/educated and understands history, cannot see Trump for what/who he is. He tells us what is going to do if elected. How, how, how can any of these supporters justify Trumps words? How?

He's still a Trump supporter? Even after the coup attempt? That's depressing. I'm sure he rationalizes it by saying Jan. 6 wasn't, in fact, a coup attempt. But either way, you're right: a historian should know better.

My god. I wouldn't bother to read a word written by Victor Davis Hanson.
