I understand wholeheartedly, that from a talent perspective, last year’s defense wasn’t close to not only the level of talent LSU typically fields, but not nearly enough to be competitive against vaunted SEC offenses (which was in stark contrast to the offense which averaged a nation leading +500 yards a game). But if you look at what LSU has THIS year, generational LB prospect Harold Perkins, considerable depth at edge rusher, and a secondary that while yes not only is young but not exactly overwhelming at corner but still is elite depth wise at Safety… I can understand wholeheartedly why so many are much higher on this LSU defense this year, especially with young star DC Blake Baker, the nation’s best dline coaches in Bo Davis and Kevin Peoples, young star DB coach Jake Olsen, and founder of DBU Corey Raymond all on staff. Now the LSU front seven… yeah, I’ll agree, not a TON of optimism lol😅.
RANKINGS AT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR? Only for fans like me to remain optimistic- even the coaches don't really have enough clues- until we get into conference play- but- geaux tigers!!
idk why nobody has said it so far...but as much as i would love to claim this too the reason we and usc are ranked so high is because ea wants to keep the big schools beating the small schools saying a bad defense at LSU for example is better than a good g5 team defense
I bet it has to do with management nonsense trying to get involved with real production interfering with development - the devs model with lsu d at 60 showed lsu going like 4 and whatever and instead of allowing devs to fix the model management said just put the rankings wherever they need to be to get reasonable outcomes. management has zero sense of, well, anything, especially quality considerations, so, cutting corners in this way is the only plausible reason I can think of to explain this absurdity. normally wherever something shows itself as totally ridiculous and asinine management isn't to far away...
