@@MattLowne you had 1-2 hours left before the deadline, so thats about on time as i would expect from my favourite ksp/space news/ random rants youtuber. That besides I loved the video Matt
I definitely understand not wanting to retire your bike cause of the sentimental connection. That’s how I felt about my first motorcycle. That said, when I had outgrown it, I actually gave it away to someone who I think ended up really appreciating it, and that was the best outcome I could’ve had. Maybe it’s worth considering giving the bike away to a kid or someone who can’t necessarily afford a decent bike!
Hey Matt, unsolicited idea here What if you use this as a Q&A? Where you try and get questions from a week or two before? This might help with exposer to the wider audience we can talk about space, KSP, and other things. Despite my love for your one man podcast / “man goes down a rabbit hole” commentary. You could briefly talk about what you plan on building then have some questions. The questions could be from patron or just from comments that stuck out to you. Anyway, love what you do keep up the great work. The build is looking great!
Well stuff like the frame (even if it is a cheap one) isn't really gonna wear out, so that's not really gonna need replacing. Where as if you buy a whole new bike you buy everything, so im guessing it's gonna be significantly cheaper to just keep the bike you have right now and just replace (with good "commuter-grade" components) when needed. But this is coming from a cheap uni student so I might be a bit more budget conscious
For what my opinion is worth, I love the rollercoaster content. I found this channel with KSP, but I subbed to the Patreon because of the Planet Coaster.
Same thing for me. I found the KSP videos but I prefer the Planet Coaster videos. It's too bad that Matt so often complains about how nobody is watching his Planet Coaster series (to the people that are watching his Planet Coaster series).
Just stopping by to let you know I truly appreciate this series. I don't really care about space so I basically only watch for your rambles to your Planet Coaster and KSP videos
Hey matt, just wanted to let you know that I really enjoy your planet coaster rambling, I listen to it sort of like a podcast, and it makes boring tasks so much better
Matt, hearing the bike "saga" and speaking as a bike mechanic who's been in the trade for 20 years (currently working for Blackmountain Bikes). If you're commuting, a belt drive is going to be mega. Low maintenance, low drag, less to go wrong. Buy cheap and buy twice is the old saying, so get as good components as you can afford. Don't skimp on brakes for one! If the frame is still decent on the voodoo, keep it and just switch to a belt setup. Keep the hardcore trail bike for the hardcore (like the forest of Dean where I live)! Happy cycling dude, and keep up these broadcasts! Real chill out for me between the sim and real life car liveries I do in my spare, non bike manufacturers, time!
You have two options for a daily commuter bike. If you have a lot of hills, go with a traditional derailleur and chain. If you don't have a lot of hills, get an internally-geared hub on the back wheel. An internal-geared hub has fewer parts that can fail and will almost certainly outlive the bike, and the only downside is it's not great for hills. You _can_ do a belt drive with a gear hub, but don't. Chains are super efficient and have a century of solid development behind them, whereas belts wear out way faster. As for the bike geometry, get a hybrid. Unless you really like hunching over on a road bike, a hybrid is fine - thinner tires than a mountain bike, which means a bit more efficient on pavement, but not going ridiculous with tiny tires because you want it to almost never fail. Steel is fine for a daily commuter, though I ride aluminum and just accept it hurts more.
This is good. These episodes are great for podcasts but I'm watching intently this time because I love model railways. You are a youtuber of many things when you play planet coaster!
I really do understand that feeling with your bike... I have a approx. 400$ foldable minibello bike that was together with me for 11 years. On it I travelled to neighboring cities, sometimes with my families and sometimes by myself, and I commuted around my university for about a year. This bike helped me learn biking, and also helped me re-realize the fun of biking after I abandoned it for 3 years when I was too busy in high school. I noticed its limitations (when I tried to attatch a cargo rack and cargo-rack-attatched seat to a minibello!) during the 1-year of heavy commuting, and finally got a used MTB to replace it last month. But I still feel like I have strong relations with my old bike. Since my new bike doesn't fold, I guess I'll fold it up and store it in case I have to bring a bike onboard a public transport in this extremely bike-unfriendly country?
I love that you literally had to go through like all of the roof trim pieces when building the rail station. Planet Coaster has so many pieces I have never used. Lol
I'm kind of torn on whether doing a KSP themed Planet Coaster would be a good idea. On one hand, you'd probably be engaged for the whole video since you could incorporate your favorite builds and moments during your experience with KSP as a sort of Nostalgia Trip (tm) through your park, but it would possibly cost your more candid commentary which is this series' strength. Still, I hope you consider making more Planet Coaster content in spite of the algorithm as these are quite addictive for the three of us who watch them.
Hey man im enjoying these planet coaster videos!! I love them they actually make me happy. Not to get personal my GF recently broke up with me. Its made me super depressed. But something about hearing you in a planet coaster video rambling about stuff makes me happy.
I feel your pain on your bicycle. I have an airsoft gun that got me addicted to the hobby that I had to replace with a better one due to parts breaking. While its painful to let go you will never forget your first that got you into a hobby even after upgrading and nothing says when you get a new one you have to throw out the old, its nice to have fix up projects.
Retire the bike. Rear internal hub is good for commuting in weather and keeping you clean. Belt drive I'm not as crazy about. Note the internal hub will weigh more and cost more than a derailleur, my opinion is that it is better for commuting. ON THE OTHER HAND... the cheap bike with good components is less likely to be stolen. Did I really just advise you to both replace the bike and not replace the bike in THE SAME POST?? Yes. It's Wednesday my dudes!
I know what you mean about bikes. I have an ancient inherited racing bike (1970s?) that I used as my first one and I love it, despite it being a crotchety old thing. Just got a new bike (a Dutch bike, woo!) and I still feel a twinge of guilt for ditching my old one lol.
Okay but you're actually wrong at the beginning because I would unironically happily watch these videos if they were more than an hour. I mean I could easily listen to you talk about building the park and random tangents for hours.
I have a small motorcycle that im just so attached to but its just collecting dust nowadays!! But i just cant bring myself to sell it. I still drive it down to the village sometimes but generally i use my newer bigger motorcycle now because its just more suited for driving longer. So i can relate! Also i feel like a train station should have some kind of clock as a sidenote 😅
About your bike. Well, my old one was pretty bad at its end. I kick my pedals through, but I decided to buy a proper one, and didn´t regret it. Costed of course more money, but it´s worth the price, also when it comes to pedaling, it´s just a smooth ride.
1) The bike didn't save your life. You did. 2) Ain't no shame in keeping your favorite bike, even if you don't ride it much. Do like the guy said...take it out and ride it every couple of weekends.
If I played Planet Coaster, I'd build too many trains and not enough roller coasters. lol What actually attracts me to transit is the many challenges of providing a good service. I sometimes play Transport Tycoon, where I'll spend hours just polishing up the service; fixing bits here and there to make everything run better. Extending a service is almost always a challenge. :) I don't know about the cars, Matt, but I can tell you flying electric bicycles are great, here in the future. I wouldn't be without mine! ;)
To be fair to your analytics, I've actually lost interest in Starship recently, they're doing testing, but that's about it. Fair play to them, it's necessary, but I feel SLS, Vulcan, JWST and Ariane 6 are currently far more interesting than Starship - purely because of the oversaturation of Starship content.
Welsh train fact: The welsh devolved government has no control over the railway lines. Wanna go to North Wales from South Wales? You've gotta go all the way to Manchester to get there!

The new album sucked though tbh
