A phenomenal accomplishment. You have every right to feel proud. Congratulations
Your videos are part of my "must watch" videos on UA-cam. I've not thru-hiked the AT ... yet, but at 60 years old, I figure I have PLENTY of time! I'm planning on being an AT thru-hiker class of 2028! (I've been a section hiker up til now.) Anyway, something you said on this short video resonated with me. I spent 10 years in the Marine Corps. Later I spent 10 years in Japan as a civilian. So much of that seems like a dream, like it happened to someone else. You said the same thing about your thru-hike the AT. Memories are such weird and mystical thing. A life changing experience looked back on years ... or even months, later can seem so surreal ... as if they happened to someone else. Anyway, thank you for your continued contribution to the hiking/adventurer lifestyle!
Thank you for your service to our great country!
Best of luck to you in your endeavor to become an AT thru-hiker in 2028!!
You look Incredible, not that you don't Always look stunning, but something about this video is really showing your glow and beauty.
Whooohoooo!! Good for you Miss Dixie!!
it's so awesome that you're able to help someone out with their own upcoming hike! maybe I'll see him on the trail, as I will be starting April 24. I finally got around to watching your summit video and it brought tears to my eyes. what you were able to accomplish is so amazing and I think if you can do it, so can I! at least that's the goal. I guess we'll see!
+Alyssa M You CAN do it!! Good luck. So excited for you. I'm planning to be at Trail Days. See you there??
I just finished to watch all the update videos from the AT. It was really touching me to participate also in the development of your personality during these days and months of the trail. It seems that the AT is no opportunity for me as a German with a family living near Frankfurt, but as a Royal Ranger boyscout leader I will commence hiking. Maybe the long trails in Europe will be interesting for me, the E1 and E3 cross each other a day hike away from me. So from the northern Norway to south Italy or from western Spain to the Black sea are my opportunities. Thank you for your inspiration.
Love your videos, Dixie. You are a great communicator and very inspiring
+Jonathan McDonough Thank you!
Very cool :) Hope you get the chance to hit the PCT this spring.
Happy Trails! -John
So glad you're lookin at the PCT..it means there will be more videos lol. I wanted to let you know that I'm proud of you. Not just accomplishing the AT which IS huge but more for the way you have put yourself out there to help others since returning. Taking the time to personally help this future AT hiker look at different options for gear and give that first hand knowledge face to face shows that you WANT him to succeed. That is awsome!
Congrats!
..thnx 4 sharing/editing.
I agree with you. Looking back on videos and pictures just feel like a dream or somebody else awesome life.
When I saw the thumbnail of the certificate before I started the video I thought it was your triple crown certificate. Then I saw the video was 4 years old. For a moment it made me think, “ wow Dixie completed her Triple Crown four years ago? I did not realize these videos were so old.” Then I watch the video and realized it was your AT certificate and things made a bit more sense.
Hey Dixie, That is awesome to see that you got the certificate with the patch and rocker. Hope to get that myself.
Congratulations, I leave March 1st and I can vouche for that gentleman's wife being worried about him on the AT. My mother was the same way when I went to boot camp and that was 15yrs ago. You would think she lighten up a bit but nope. Being the youngest, she was the same way a few weeks ago when I told her about the AT. Good luck in your future endeavors wherever they may be!!!

Congrats on Hiking the AT. Hope you get to the PCT. :) I myself am planning on thru hiking the AT hopefully in 2017. I will be hiking sections of the AT in the NE this spring in addition to some hiking in the Adirondack Mountains.
You're such a kind awesome person I only hope that someday I can meet someone as awesome as you
+++++ yes, I am thru-watching ALL the videos . . . . I like the certificate and patch. Collect all three!
Well, you are on the PCT and making your way north. Best of Luck.
WOOOO!!!!!! GOOD JOB!!!!
Very Very Very VERY cool pieces of show off bling! haha Congrats on this accomplishment, I enjoyed Marathon'ing your trip these past few days!! haha
Great Video Dixie
This is awesome I didn't know they give you stuff. you are amazing by the way seen damn near all thru hike vids. Keep up the amazing work. Hopefully you're around when I go in spring?
That's a Great achievement Dixie I followed you through the entire trail and to now see you got your achievement award is cool. I must have missed this video or just don't remember it but yea well congratulations definitely one to frame.
Awww, thank you so much. Encouragement from folks like you kept me going!
haha - I do the same exact thing at a hotel and I'm 40! Congrats on the AT! See you at trail days 2016?
congrats
Did your friend you went to dinner with end up going in June? If so, how far did he make it?
Hey Dixie, just a slight clarification on your 2000 miler and thru-hiker status. First, congratulations on your accomplishment. I know you are on the PCT right now, I wonder if you are planning to be a triple crown hiker? Anyway, you are correct, in that you cannot skip part of the trail voluntarily. However, as you are well aware, the PCT is a different animal. On the PCT there are closures of the trail for avalanches, rockslides, wildfires, and yes, even frogs. Those closures force hikers off trail to detour around the closed areas. You are still considered a thru-hiker if you have been forced to leave the trail (unlike those that voluntarily leave and skip parts of the trail). So essentially, a thru-hiker hikes as much of the trail that is open during that year.
Congrats on your AT hike! As you know weight is everything! Be sure his full pack weight stays under 24/25 pounds. Buy light!!! It will be even more important for some his age.
I really like your videos
Dixie, I don't know if you read the comments or not but I was looking at a friends pictures from a weekend hike on the AT at Mcafee Knob and noticed you were in the picture. I believe he and his group from Ohio shared a shelter with you and your hiking mates.
Ahh the hiking blood is pumping now!! OL Good job! I have just Started looking at the PCT as well and the John muir train!
Kevin Haney
+windysss smith That's my intention, Kevin! Haha, I want everyone to hike!
awesome. Im doing kind of a local hike series, just what ends up happening.. no AT yet, someday.. like what you are doing.PCT is my goal as well.. actually finding a way to create income and live on the road and hike everything is my goal.. sigh.. takes time
That was funny when you went woo woo and the car horn went off the same time PCT PCT PCT
I have neither thru hiked the AT, nor am over seventy. On the other hand, Lucky, of the HIking Vikings videos, has and is He has a Trail Journals page, which I can't seem to cut and past.
Jessica for Prez ! U the best.
I am sorry that you did not make it this spring but I am glad you're lookin at the PCT some where down the road and Congrats on this accomplishment very happy for you. and PCT is very bad trial with lots of sharp and louse rocks and ice on top , ect it might not be a good place for your dog. just saying. please take care. Rusty nail. and good luck.
Does that count trail closures?
I should really send in my info to the Green Mountain Club and get my certificate for the Long Trail.
So I have camped quiet a bit, but when night comes I kinda freak out. I don't know why cause animals are not going to get me I probley think people will. How did you relax and get to sleep at night?
watch them all would love to do it
Thank you, Nancy!
Hi Dixie, you are a true inspiration! One question...can u still qualify for completion if u do it in sections but complete it all? Or do u have to do it all at once to qualify?
You can do it in sections, but have a 12 month period to do all of the sections.
That's a definite "living-room" display !
Thru hiker with the ATC ? Appalachian Trail Conservancy still resurching. Will get back to you readers on this, I hope.
Another one down.. binge-watching
how do they know if you skipped part of the trail?? is there a passport like the camino de santiago?
Nope. All honor system. You know who did it and who didn't when you are out there, though. Just like real life - you can tell who the cheaters/slackers are ;)
You are so beautiful...and your videos are cool too. ; )
Have you given thought to maybe a shorter trail like the Benton MacKaye? BTW I'm not as old as that gentlemen but I did do 972 miles of the trail in 2015 here is a link to what I used. Hope it helps he and others. ua-cam.com/video/fP7DaDMJD8E/v-deo.html
How much money do you need
+blccleaning
If you're asking how much it costs to hike the AT, I am working on getting that number out to y'all now. But, if you're asking how you can help fund the next hike, be on the lookout for my Patreon account!
What do you need for the P C trail. There is a company that is looking to sponsor hikers. I sent you the info a month back.
I'll say it again patreon...
+Ben Kendig
Ha, thanks--Working on that!
If he can afford it offer him this idea: www.inreachdelorme.com/
and congratulations!
Jessica, you are so naturally beautiful that make up actually detracts from, not adds to, your appearance.
