To create a smooth finish, you can try a piece of steel wool or a steel file. They both work WONDERS for smoothing out the surface area! Happy Carving!

Hi Brandy, you are SUPER talented!!! Can you tell me what tools you use please and thank you! Will they work on the artificial pumpkins? I am going to try a fake pumpkin this year, any tips?

I would love to see these lit up, do you put a light inside or do you keep the pumpkin whole?

It didn't occur to me that pumpkins were just another carving medium, like wood is.

Loved the time lapse. One question: I think I saw some of the wooden shape tools to push in a bit around the mouth to create the wrinkles is that what you did?

when sculpting, is it more advantageous for the rind to be moist or dry?

is there a chemical or spray that will keep the pumpkin from rotting quickly?

I sometimes spray (after I'm finished carving) with water mixed with a couple teaspoons of lemon juice and just a touch of bleach to keep mold at bay. It will eventually dry out though, so you've just gotta learn to take lots of pictures and then let nature take its course and enjoy it while it lasts. ;-)

What kind of tool do you start with to get the skin off?

Brandy, I have bee trying this kind of carving and iI can't seem to get that smooth "sculpted" look but more rough "cut" edges. Any thoughts?

Why wouldn't you light it? That's annoying.

Why would she light it? There are no holes in it.

***** But still if she lights it its not like the light will be broad and show as much..

The face would glow and it'd look awesome.

There are no holes to see the light. Its probably too thick to see a glow from inside.
