I initially thought the exterior looked funky, but after watching loads of reviews on this vehicle, I don't know if I just got used to it, but it honestly doesn't look that bad to me anymore. It's actually become a bit annoying that literally every review can't help but beat a dead horse and make snarky comments throughout the entire review about the looks. Just say it has controversial looks and move on. As to the functionality of the grill... having owned a couple of BMWs myself in the past, let me tell you, rock chips on the front paint are a real problem. This self healing "grill" would be a godsend, looks not withstanding. I'd rather they replace the entire front end with this material if it meant avoiding rock chips! Hell, stretch it onto the hood while they're at it!
Another measured, excellent review on this wonderful channel. The Practicality section (6 minutes in) gave serious pause for thought. Boot capacity and rear passenger room appear almost identical to the Skoda Enyaq yet it's bulkier to thread along a country lane or round a multi storey car park. It's twice the price too. Faster and more luxurious, certainly, but at a price...
It is butt-ugly!! If I was getting one for free my first thought is how much could I sell it for... Other that that I reckon you can't go wrong with modifying the front nose. No matter what you come up with its likely to look better than the King Crimson nostrils. The rest of the car is perfectly fine. The problem then might be the price.
The Hex steering wheel looks wise isn't great, but functionally it's a solid solution. The bottom is flat for better leg clearance. The top is tapered so the left edge doesn't block the center infotainment screen. The top is high so you don't block the driver's cluster. Supposedly it also helps notify the driver which direction is up... in case you have the wheel turned after parking, or do a full lock turn. The bulges on the top probably help with getting a nice thumb lock for aggressive handling or emergency reactions. The crystal controls look cool and all, but supposedly blind the driver in direct sunlight... who thought that was a good idea? OEMs... for the love of god, stop putting shiny blinding materials in cars. For $1000, I'd pass. I just wish the non-crystal controls still had the wood panel. It's plastic if you don't get the option; more of a minor annoyance. In fact, I wish there was more wood usage in the vehicle in general. Get rid of the bronze plastic and replace it with that wood. BMWs are almost known for their wood panel trim options. The cupholders should be higher; I really don't understand why they would put them low where you have to reach down to get your beverage. That's begging for a spill, or a crash. What's with EV vehicles having terrible cup holder designs? First the Polestar 2, and now this. Although, the Polestar 2's design was especially heinous and really an insult to human intelligence and flexibility. There's the huge gap in front of the BMW's center console that could have been better utilized. Maybe even a cup holder that you can raise up into the gap or fold down from the front when in use or maybe an additional glove box that the driver can easily reach. Honestly, with how they have it setup, they almost could have used a fold down arm rest that when folded up exposed a third front seat, pickup truck style, effectively making this a 6 seater.

Interior is impeccable but everything else is hideous. You didn’t mention the ‘bonnet’ capable of housing a 7-litre V8 is totally unusable - on a bespoke ev platform that is inexcusable.
Placing the plate over the (fake) grille seems such an odd decision. Why not make the grille shorter and have plate space below it? Also, I love the channel but the volume on this one is a bit low. Any chance you could bump it up in future recordings?
Insulated tyres, laser headlights, automated nose first parking, 360 degree nearby vehicle display. Interior camera for security and record and replay of tight circuitous parking routes… it washes the two main cameras. Heated interior surfaces, massage seats, electric steering wheel. Unlocks using user proximity tied to smartphone encryption hardware. Soft close doors. M50 has air suspension.
As a total EV convert . . . now on 3rd EV - currently an Enyaq owner . . . if I was ever in a position to spend the sort of money it costs to buy an iX it would happen in a heartbeat . . . what a car . . . just wowsers ! . . . great review AutoEV
After Tesla I don’t know how any EV’s looks can be nitpicked. It’s like the looks of the Tesla get breezed over and then the tooth comb comes out for other EVs
Except we don’t breeze over the design of Tesla. I’m on record of saying how dull they look and it’s one of the worst aspects of the car. Take the Model 3 for instance. It’s woeful next to a Polestar 2 and I’d rather have a BMW i4 for looks over the Model 3. But the iX feels like they’ve tried to be too controversial to stand out. It doesn’t need that.
Bmw iX, you love it or hate it. But mostly Love it. Beautiful ev far better choice then Tesla Y. But Tesla going to outplay bmw with a new bettery technology in 2022.
When I see one of these I think of beavers! Can't imagine why anyone would buy one or why the top brass at BMW allowed it to go into production looking like this.
I could live with the exterior, but the door cards, dashboard, rear passenger compartment just leave me cold... Still, let's see what the big 'yin has tae say...
That snout is just not going to get it done; it destroys what otherwise is a relatively handsome vehicle. However I'm more terrified of its price: ONE HUNDRED, THIRTY THOUSAND DOLLARS US! Who the heck is gonna (be able to) buy that thing??
I'm sorry, but it's not only BMW that has been hit by the same UGLY stick, it not just the Wombat nose fake grill, Toyota and Subaru both come to mind. I'm not a big fan of this sharp angular wheel archer design, astatically it is not pleasing, too angry, too harsh.
Has to be one of the ugliest cars ever, it’s even worse in black . It’s time BMW, probably the best engineered cars acquired some of the designers from Audi or Mercedes.
Let's not waste any more time on gloating over the monstrosity of the iX. Just a fleeting remark about SUV drivers with gigantic ground clearance and rugged 4x4 supremacy. Have you noticed how they slow down in front of a speed bump? Any respected 89 year lady with a 2cv will overcome such a vicious obstacle with more panache...
No, I actually can't refrain from commenting on the absurdity of the iX. 500 L for "a vehicle" of this size? What a tasteful hoax. A Skoda Fabia Estate has more capacity. No, this is not about practicality. An estate is practical. It is not about off roading. It will never leave the pavement of congested city centers. It is about dominance. A physical and financial heralding of the presumed superiority of the driver. Sick, sad world.
hideous exterior that excels only in only one quality: you can spend all day arguing which angle is uglier. Is in side that has no character or front that looks like it was drawn by a an angry child, or the back that was never finished, or the steering wheel that can make Mike Tyson cry? If this design didn’t come from BMW it would be absolutely buried by any reviewer, but since it is BMW everyone is dancing around with every semi plausible explanation why we shouldn’t trust our lying eyes.
I’m calling this….this is one ugly looking car, many no amount of BMW badges will alter that. Good looking EV SUV? Nissan Ariya. BMW are on a dangerous path just now. Nearly all their cars are divisive.
Of course you do love the ugly dash that looks so out of place specially with arrow design speedo in the squared box. Lol as soon as i started watching this vid i said this guy is absolutely going to love MB dash in the BMW.
Personally I absolutely love the exterior look. I didn’t like it at first but it’s really grown on me

I'm surprised you didn't have size of the available boot space down as a negative which is equivalent to golf hatchback with the seats up.
The observation about one of the benefits of being in the back seat - you don’t have to look at the outside. Brilliant

so the boot is "massive" yet smaller than the Skoda Enyaq? Looks great quality but that front end is challenging
Yes, but the Enyaq's boot is REALLY massive....... (sorry, couldn't help it). Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.

Very. It’s comfort and refinement is the car’s forte.

The grill looks like Hitlers mustache.
Needs a body kit to change out all the ugly black vents and plastic bits down under the doors. Would look much nicer all red.
I hope as you say it looks better in person, because in my opinion it is hideous from every angle.
The grill looks better when it doesn’t have a number plate stuck in the middle of it. I like it, but too rich foe me. I’ll stick with my iX3 😁

先日初めて高速道路走行してみた。
走行中にボンネットフードが開いて視界を遮ってしまって。怖い思いをした。
テスラ車だけの問題じゃないと思います。
EVの軽量化でボンネットも軽薄になった。大変危険です。

Would rather have a top spec Ioniq 5 and a mint M3 with 20000k on the clock. Both together are about the same price as this well kicked football.
Very very ugly design.... And a truly ridiculous price....
