Your garden is like 'performance meditation'. Great to see your Horse Chestnut bonsai. I have been playing around with horse chestnuts for a few years. I don't have the trunk thickness of yours. But I do enjoy watching them break bud - as they are doing here in NZ at this moment. Especially in a forest group setting. Great video. Cheers for that.
I have just begun my bonsai journey, and I'm head over heels in love for this it feels soo good to be growing this tree I acquired a Chinese Elm Tree and I love it! I have done zen rock gardens for about a decade now and I've done many for friends and neighbors I live in Omaha Nebraska so the people without them just love seeing these gardens I put together. Either way this reminds me of that the Zen Buddhism aspect of it is so aligned I feel total peace and almost more honing to the edges of my mind also. I am thankful for your teachings Master Chan you are truly the best I've seen and I did quite a bit of research for about a month before I started this life altering experience. I have recently purchased two of your books. And I am intent on owning all of your writings. Also when you are in your natural state while "on the job" you show and speak on things that may have not been in your books. I understand that a master such as yourself has forgotten more about bonsai than most may ever wish to know. I already want to move to the UK and work with you at your nursery. Again thank you for this content being placed on UA-cam, you my good sir make this sheepishly aspect of being a beginner just dissolve completely. I hope that the artists eye I've acquired over a lifetime will bring unique beauty to my bonsai just as what you display on a daily in perfect flow.

There aren't enough words to do justice to the color combinations and intensity. I lost a ginkgo recently and the ones I saw have inspired me to acquire another...the only tree as old as the dinosaur; what a story! And the pomegranates?! Wow! It's so interesting how like trees have such a different rate of change, but makes sense that they would change independently. It's amazing that this is but a fraction of the beauty that is there. It's all just so special. Thank you for sharing!

I got a wonderful Cryptomeria Japonica from the garden centre yesterday, 1m tall and £9.99. I couldn't believe my luck. It is copper from head to toe, I think they thought it was dying. I had my Peter Chan Bonsai Bible with me - invaluable but also dangerous to my wallet to keep in the car when I am passing a new nursery!

My trees have yet to turn, neither did they burn in summer heat. I have just collected and set Maple seed for winter. Peter do you have any tips on how to get the best germination?

All this global warming? Meanwhile where I live we have record lows and a record 4 foot snow fall expected. Its going ice age in the rockie mountians. No warming here.
It's important to note that as the globe warms as a whole it can cause local weather patterns to shift from what is traditionally seen. There is also a trend towards more extreme weather globally. This is because major air and ocean currents, which are responsible for climates and ultimately local weather patterns, are shifting. So while the average global temperature is rising, we are also more likely to see weather extremes--hurricanes, cold snaps, flooding as a result of massive rainfall etc. The term global warming, while technically correct is understandably confusing, climate change is definitely a better descriptive term.

Use ones that have decent size trunks. They can suffer mildew but apart from that, they do make nice bonsai.
