I dunno. Every high-level replays I see 80% neutral play, 15% Drive system related and 5% scramble. People confuse there is no neutral play because the Drive system create huge and most of the damage. But if you ever watch pro plays, most of the time is spent jockeying for position and simple neutral pokes. Then bam, Drive Rush/Cancel to 30% damage. Corner carry. Daigo, Tokido, AngryBird, Koboyan, Itazan, Punk, Du, etc. all spend most of their gameplay in neutral. Punk is known for neutral punish. Daigo in classic Hado spam. Tokido is one of the most "honest" Ken in the world.

The patch knocked out half of the already-established brackets by killing all Eds and Cammys. Most of them are already trying to figure out who to play instead of their mains. Some don't have any good alternatives because of their playstyle.

iDom seems like a smart guy. Why hasn't he realized that the fact you have to spend drive meter for pressure is intentional game design so that pressure is limited and takes calculated thought? The only way to do that is to tie it to a game mechanic like meter. That is the INTENTION. He seems to think there is only one way to design a fighting game. Does he realize fighting games have existed for more than 10 years and that design of them has always been different generation to generation? Seems like a young kid. The design 30 years ago in fighting games like SF2 was different to Third strike, was different to SF4, is different to SF6.
I think it’s more like he knows capcom tried to do something different and experimental but think it needs to be overhauled a lot still similar to how SFV needed to be tweaked until it got to a better state later. Personally I like his point about it feels like he’s fighting the same person over and over everytime he goes on ranked. That’s a danger with a universal mechanic that is a core fundamental of the game. SFV for the most part didn’t have that, every character kind of did their own thing. A common complaint was every character played the same that people couldn’t play a character their own way but every character had their own identity. Where in sf3/4 you had shared universal mechanics with parry/focus and people learned to create their own playstyle. At the highest level sf6 characters all play very similar to each other and drive doesnt allow different playstyles is I think his main point so its boring to him.

Drive gauge is supposed to be the most important mechanic but it doesn’t change the fact that characters are unique. Big birds rashid plays nothing like dual Kevin’s, plays nothing like gachikun. Each one uses different setups, different pressure, different neutral. The statement idom made sounds trendy but just is factually incorrect. Punks cammy even plays nothing like hurricanes, whose plays nothing like kilzyou. Even with the most boring samesy character in the game. Angry birds ken plays nothing like tokidos who plays nothing like booce. There is tons of variety in the system. I just don’t get the point. What I hear idom complaining every 5 seconds is he wants more pressure and more ways to dominate people without them being able to get out of it so easily (parry), or he wants to be able to create pressure and get in on people by showing his fighting game skill instead of using drive rush. I don’t know then what the drive gauge should be for. I think he wants it as a background mechanic instead of a primary mechanic. But this does not change the uniqueness of characters. It just means people will *also* be doing a lot of things with drive gauge to initiate. Which makes the screen green a lot but doesn’t take from the uniqueness of playstyles.

Is it bad to have to use a games programmed mechanic to get shit done though? You have 6 Drives technically (None normal cancel) , 6 + if you wait a tad bit that's another 3 = 9 before you go into burn-out. That's a lot, it should be used The negative of it, it makes every character feel the same
