Almost anything in BMW's lineup sound better than the S55. Those things sound bad. The new M2 Competition is gonna sound a lot worse than the current M2.
I have also owned an E90 335i and E92 M3. Both sound better, I will agree but the driving experience is not comparable to a 335i and makes the E9x feel like a turtle
if you have unlimited budget yes, but for most people big part of daily-ability is how economical it is. this is expensive to buy, expensive to maintain, expensive to modify, expensive to insure, expensive to fill up with gas and finally when you go to sell it you realise it also depreciated like 50% in a few years you had it. so in the end you are better off leasing a new car as a daily and buying a used dedicated sportscar as an enthusiast toy
@darius2640 I got one with 35000 miles for less than 30. Spent less than 5000 in mods and it's 600 hp. Nothing has broken, insurance isn't that much more than my suv was and maintenance is the same as my old car.
Zack is trying to be very analytical in these One Takes but he just needs to be himself. He is usually very funny. He also has great one liners that make me bust out laughing. One Take with One Liners.

I like Zack, and I'm glad they are still doing fan/custom/tuned cars. That said, Zack could use a touch more enthusiasm and project his voice a bit more. Sometimes it's hard to hear him. Matt is fun to watch because of how "into it" he is. The one take with the 600whp Evo is a perfect example. He's having a blast, and that is infectious. So speak up Zack! I feel like the only thing lacking is "stage presence" and that's an easy fix. Keep up the good work yall.

Dude. Everybody would be reserverd the first time somebody would tell you your job now is to drive other peoples cars who are probably proud of them. Let him get into the groove for the first 10-20 cars, judge then if you really need to.
Just bought this car today and I came here to vent my excitement. It's a total steal for less than 25 grand. Coilovers are almost a must I think. But I just need to say for the price this car is absolutely a blast. It's a killer motor. It really is.
I was shopping for an M235 used and tested a b58 equipped 340 and immediately bought an m240 because the engine is SO good. M perf exhaust and some bolt ons like this and bam car is a beautiful mix of daily drivability and sportiness/sleeper speed.
I dont like leased cars because as he said at 4:15 he cant spend a lot of money on it and then return it, so he is right, buying a car is so much better and you can do anything to it since its your car, and you dont have a specific time to give it back, thats why my 340i is bought not leased
I am joining the club of happy people that accepted Zack as an replacement host. Really glad the series are continuing, one of my favorite ones for sure.
People who think leasing is a waste of money....you should do a little more research. First of all, bad leases are absolutely a waste of money. But for a 3 series..you can get into a 320i for about 300 a month with maintenance incl. A 340i....probably for 500-ish with 1k drive-off. So, let’s say 19k over 3 years. That sounds like a bad deal? Not really...a brand new 30k Accord is worth about 15k after 3 years. Not to mention paying for your own maintenance. Leasing is not good in every circumstance, but neither is buying. Especially so if you can write off the car for tax purposes.
YEEEEESSSS! been thinking zack needs (a lot) more camera time. I think handing one-takes off to him is an excellent way to keep the content flowing. also your previous-gen r8 v10 plus videos is one of my all-time favorites

nice video! really love how Zack has taken over the torch. i was skeptikal at first, but its awesome! This thing sounds better than a M3 somehow, impressive
Regular M2 uses a single turbo N55. M2 Competition uses a S55 twin turbo from the M3/M4 which sounds like ass. Idk why BMW stuffed the S55 in the M2 Competition. Maybe to all those whiners who said the M2 doesn't have an "M" engine? Who knows. I still think the M2 is the best car they sell today.
the overall production quality of the M2 isnt that great for the price. the interior is like a basic BMW, not so fancy like a M3/M4. Lets just hope the new Z4 is gonna be good :D
Sport Mode tightens steering, changes/increases the throttle response, opens the exhaust valves (if you have the original BMW exhaust system) and if you have the adaptive suspension it tightens the suspension.
Thanks for the vid! We have a 340i. The owner says "58 year-old driving their kids to school" what 58 year old is still driving their kids to school...lol
Great first video Zack, it's not an easy gig following Matt, but you did great. People give him some slack, Matt's done like a million one takes and has had loads of on screen experience. Zack will do great with some videos under his belt.
I had a 2013 335i and did the JB4, catless downpipe, Intake and intercooler and ran E85 with it. Car was an absolute missle. Very fun sharp driving car. The luxury Supra.
He didn't want to do suspension work because the car is a lease, but all the other mods are ok? I wonder if he gets the car serviced at the dealer and how that goes. In any case, if the car is equipped with the adaptive M suspension from factory there aren't many better options unless you are looking to spend big $.
Was on a canyon run with this car a couple days ago. Sounded great. Was in an M2 following and then leading. Hit me up if you want to do another drive again dude.
If you ever drive an F30 again and really want to get a feel for what the car can do, you need to press and hold TRACTION for 3 seconds until DSC OFF symbol comes on. That’s the best suspension setting IMO
The reason why you can feel so much with the Porsche is because it's so low to the ground, short wheel base, wide track base, and the tires are wide as shit all around.
the suspension firms up in sport+ and throttle response is quicker, but when you turn of traction as in the video it goes back to comfort. Stick to the left does shift more aggressively and at higher rpm so that's all you're seeing.
He’s talking about the N55 (this engine’s predecessor) not the B58 regarding 800hp, stock bottom end etc. No one has cracked the BMW imposed fuelling limit on a B58 yet. Bigboost hit 600+hp with supplemental throttle-body-injection and are supposedly working on port injection. Once that’s in place or someone crack the ecu, those power numbers or more are definitely possible as it’s a super tough unit, closed deck design etc.
Limivorous1 N54 is the motor that handles 800hp stock, n55 was made with lighter internals, even N54’s are only safe around 600whp, they have held together at 750whp but would not last for years at that power level. N54 lore! Motor +++ everything around it - - -
I love how people are like "WHAT KIND OF IDIOT MODS A LEASED CAR!!" Matt Farah did...his Fiesta was leased and it was modded..It's not a big deal if you have everything to return it to stock. This guy has a piggy back tune that won't show up if he takes it to the dealer. I have an MK7 GTI. If I wanted to tune it without it showing up, I would go JB4, because it won't show up at the dealer. Just don't do anything that the dealer will know about.
Even with the tune removed, the dealer still be able to know (if they really dig into the stats, ask me how I know) the history since the boost level/statistic would pass the stock point in which itself prove that there was a tune. It doesnt matter if one do a piggy back or full ECU Flash, same thing to the dealer.
The M performance edition AKA ZHP is something I'm looking for. You get so much with that package including the M power kit and M valved exhaust, bumping power up to 355 HP and 369 lb feet. New front side and rear aero, M adaptive suspension, and a whole bunch of other stuff. They're hard to find, but I think you can have it retrofitted at a BMW dealer.
i tried looking for a 6sp for soooo long, ended up settling for an auto because of a good deal. still sad though, my thirst for a manual car still continues
So here's my two cents, firstly, It's good to see the one-takes continue. I guess it comes down to getting used to Zack, Matt is kind of over the top with his reactions and general presence, Zack is more muted in his presentation, but very knowledgeable. What I would say though, is the length of the video is a little much, it's in the 30 minute TV show category (minus adverts), I think sub 15 minutes is the sweet spot for the one takes.
I own a 335i with the N54, and while I hear great things about the B58 -40i BMW's, I cannot say that these turbo motors make for good drivers cars. Among the other turbo vehicles out there today, I'll admit that the B58 or N55 are superior motors for driving cars, but among other vehicles in whole, an NA motor brings me so much more driving joy. Long live the older NA BMW's and Porsche's! \m/(oo)\m/
I got a modded 328i but had a loaner 340i xdrive for a week and I'll tell ya it was a monster and it sounded great. I'd take a rwd 340i and throw a tune on it to offset the lack of xdrive grip, all the same hell of a vehicle.
Think about it. What happens if you lease a car, tune it, and then the motor blows? That is the owner’s fault and you would have to pay out of pocket to fix it. Plus, once you tune your car any bmw service tech can see what you did. Even if you revert back to the stock tune.
GrayFox370 2015-2017 wrx’s are blowing up on stock motors after only 20k miles... imagine what an aggressive tune would do to a car that hasn’t even passed the break in period... And I heard you can get permission for simple things like rims. Not for any power adders
Lol comparing a B58 to a J series. The B58 will not blow up on just a tune. Burger tuning has been doing this a long time and do extensive R&D before putting tunes on the market.
Jose Lopez yeah because the N54 has been out for over a decade. The B58 doesn’t even have a flash tune available yet and has already achieved 600whp+ with just a piggyback tune, turbo, intake, downpipe, meth. 5 mods. For a 300hp increase. N54 didn’t do that in its first 2 years.
snYpz I haven’t seen any B58 with over 500whp yet I heard they have issues with aftermarket Downpipes because it’s cuts the fueling or something along those lines great engine no doubt it I have both a 340i and a 135i so B58 and N54
Jose Lopez Real world it is tough to get above 520hp without adequate fueling but there have been runs where it hit 540whp on stage 2 turbos and 620whp on stage 3 turbos. The numbers aren’t sustainable right now but the point is that the engine is capable. And that’s awesome that you have a B58/N54! I’d love to own an N54 one day.
snYpz oh yeah fueling is there only issue and that’s without opening the DME like you said but the B58 is absolute monster the fact that’s it’s a closed deck motor also helps a lot overall perfected N54-N55 and did it right their oem cat from factory is pretty solid tbh it’s a super high flowing cat
Does all these breathing mods, maybe gets a few HP out of them, puts a cone filter in that draws air from an insanely hot, cramped motor compartment, ends with less power than he started with, then gets on TST and claims massive amounts of power.
15:56. I drove a Benz CLA 200 AMG and I got the same steering feel. The steering wheel is mounted solid in the car and its tense, not heavy just tense. It has no relationship with the wheel beyond pointing their direction and that was a tragic.
How does it work out having this car as a lease and then doing this 'breathing' mods and tune? Can the dealership find you for running the car on a tune even if you change it back?
After having experienced e46, e90, and f30, I think the electric steering has potential. It's still stiff, and I actually think it's sharper in the center than the older steering racks. The only thing I wish is that there was more feel to go along with that clinical sharpness, and I also wish there was an option to use the "sport" steering in all of the modes
That Ace Ventura sunglasses flick tho. ALLRIGHTYTHEN!!!
Wondering if that'll be Zack's signature move. Matt had his turning radius...

No B58 has made it in the 800hp yet but the N54 has stock bottom end not B58
So Zack is doing the One Take videos now?
Bummed Matt isn't doing them anymore but glad they're still making them!
Check out our announcement on the main page. Matt is still doing press cars (and some choice track/weird things), while Zack takes over fan cars.
Really good one take. Only problem is that the 3/4 series is too old now, no one should buy one untill the next gen arrives.
It kind of nice that Zack doesn't talk down to people constantly.
A bunch of dudes praises the glorious manual gearboxes like it was THE hype.
Muricans for ya I guess.
Wow I actually got scared when I heard this guy say good morning and didn't see Matt....was not expecting that.
I like that the Zack one takes are a bit longer. Hopefully Zack doesn't get jaded too quick lol
Solid life advice at the end of the video :D
Does all these breathing mods, maybe gets a few HP out of them, puts a cone filter in that draws air from an insanely hot, cramped motor compartment, ends with less power than he started with, then gets on TST and claims massive amounts of power.
My next Car! Soon it will be mine!
Nice car did you end up keeping the bmw after the lease? Since it’s a daily driver was u nervous bout going over the miles?
This is the exact 340 I have but mine is red interior. Good looks bro
Good job Zack dont mind the dumb dislikes.
I see a one take with Zack AND a BMW and I instantly clicked like.
Zack is a person! I always just though of him as a disembodied voice on a podcast.
After having experienced e46, e90, and f30, I think the electric steering has potential. It's still stiff, and I actually think it's sharper in the center than the older steering racks. The only thing I wish is that there was more feel to go along with that clinical sharpness, and I also wish there was an option to use the "sport" steering in all of the modes
the steering is extremely direct and sharp. the only problem is the communication with the road.
