Unfortunately for us all big business dictates to world governments what is important instead of big business being accountable and contribute to the well being of our planet.Governments and individuls will always cave to winfalls of money
gimme a break.. big business isn't forcing residents in my city to live in the countryside, drive to work in SUVs, install swimming pools, buy tropical fruits in the store, etc..

We need campaign reform and the only chance that happens is if democrats have majority in all legislative bodies /even then it will be difficult
This is the hardest Fifth Estate I have ever watched.
Lol😂😂😂😂 ban private air travel then i will start to care
In the EU it is cheaper than trains. It would be a blow to the budget of many individuals.
So you are waiting for uncaring people to care for you to care about your future. That doesn't sound like very wise critical thinking.
It’s critical thinking that led them to the conclusion that if anyone actually cared about the environment, something like private flights would have been one of the first things to go. Another one would be that politicians and world leaders would not be flying all over the world, constantly to meet with each other at huge conferences that create large amounts of waste products. Climate change has become nothing more than a get rich quick scheme. Even if it is something we need to take seriously, the people pretending to take it seriously are grifters.
How about not shipping everything and anything when it can or should be locally manufactured, grown, or mined.

How you all plan to deal with fosill fuels? Our whole economy is based on it. I cut my commuting emissions to next to zero. We grow most of our own food. We heat with localy sourced firewood. There is stiil room for improvement like adding solar PV, putting insulation on the house, and adding a solar thermal water heater and wwhr system. But personal actions like that won't make a difference! Still my green peas comes from another country, I order stuff delivered buy a disel van. Fossil fuels are half the problem. Clear-cutting of rainforests and destruction of wetlands are a big problem, considering these ecosystems naturally absorb carbon from the atmosphere. Ecosystems destroyed and mined of their resources to help with our transition to electric cars, lose their natural ability to regulate the atmosphere.
Ya ... Take the plastic straws away..switch em for paper straws ....
Ummmmm. Didn't we use to say save the trees?!?!

@@rickvervoort9536 I never claimed to be God. Who is cutting the last tree down on easter island?
This is Don Thrower from Welland. Climate change is accelerating and each year will be hotter than the last. We all need to change. We talk about saving the planet but the planet will be here regardless. What should be talked about is saving the current climate. I watched a video that the climate swings are a direct cause of the overall warming. What will happen is it will get hot where infrastructure cannot handle it. The reverse is also happening where it will get cold where the infrastructure cannot handle it. Sadly the sea will rise too slowly for everyone to get seriously worried but the air temperature and fires and floods are happening now. We need to come up with a plan and fast. I hope our governments will make some changes and fast.
I will never understand why people think we need the government to save us
What happened to reduce, reuse and recycle? Instead of encouraging to use used vehicles, someone decided that remanufacturing newer more efficient models with higher use of mined materials was the way to save the planet. I feel like everything is tied to how do we squeeze more money out of people and convince them to buy new.
This is just payback time for Danielle Smith because of the Tucker Carlson shindig. We're not stupid here in Alberta Steven Guilbeault.
I’m from Alberta and yes you actually are stupid if you think that
Did all these people walk or fly to the conference from all over the world?
Fossil fuel demands continues to increase but, instead of producing in Canada where protections and regulations are high and Canadians would be employed, the Federal Government prefers to keep their hands "clean" by shifting the reliance of energy to imports from other countries. The Federal Government claiming Danielle's Smith Alberta government is undertaking a "political attack" only reiterates how much Ottawa is out of touch with Canadians.
Unfortunately.... you don't seem to understand the ramifications of using Oil Sands Oil ? While ALL Oil 'production' has ghg emissions involved in order to produce Oil..... Oil Sands requires equivalent of burning 1 Barrel of OIl in GHG Emissions merely to 'produce' roughly2.5 Barrels for usage . That's the worst in the world(dirtiest)
The next nearest worst Oil is conventional Oil produced by fracking at ~8 barrels produced for each 1 barrel equivalent.... to as high as 23-25 Barrels of Oil produced for 1 barrel in ghg emissions equivalent(Saudi Arabia).
So it's really not just as simple as saying "let's use Alberta Oil ?
GHG Emissions producing Natural Gas... ghg Emissions burning the Natural Gas to Boil the water to produce Steam.... ghg emissions pumping the Steam down to make the Sand/Tar/Bitumen Flow... and on and on and on GHG Emissions so that a FULL Barrel of ghg Emissions merely to 'produce' 2.5 Barrels of Oil ?
Environment minister Steven Guilbeault is a hired gun for Trudeau. He is shoving Trudeau's idiotic ideas and policies down our throats anyway he can.
There is no science to prove that the carbon tax will reduce emissions.

The question is... Do you have enough money to build a bunker in Greenland? Because many people see what is coming and try it...
Danielle Smith is a typical politician - more mouth than brain! Double fossil fuel production will benefit US companies the most since Alberta is only a tiny part of the fossil fuel supply chain. If she cares about Alberta's principal industry, she will invest in refining locally high-end products and pipelines to a delivery port in Churchill (including buying three icebreakers). Plenty of clients worldwide for oil and gas products for the foreseeable future (next 50 to 75 years).
Survival of the fittest, a term made famous in the fifth edition of On the Origin of Species by British naturalist Charles Darwin, suggested that organisms best adjusted to their environment are the most successful in surviving and reproducing. This will curb fossil fuels and repair some damage while making them affordable for the general public.

And by the way, Canada's emissions represent 1.5% of global emissions. The Fifth Estate should visit Russia, India and China if it is concerned about CO2 emissions.
Perhaps the CBC can take some money from their president's expense budget to buy a couple of tickets for Ms. Ormiston and a camera operator to investigate real air polluters?
Perhaps you should start looking at per capita CO2 emissions before pointing fingers at other countries.

Per capita emissions are in the top 2.
Good commentary. Fossil fuels are killing us and we need to stop oil companies and the unabated pollution and develop safer sources of energy. I am worried about this summer in BC and the rest of the planet.
Yeah... we lost 3.1% of BC's land base to fire last year. 3.1%... I don't think most Canadians have even heard this number, but it's a big deal. It's not like this is crop land, 64% of BC's land base is trees that take 100+ years on average to grow back. BC's snow pack is 40% below average for this time of year as well.
When I hear Danielle Smith talk about C02 capture as viable, I'm just left shaking my head. It will never happen, it's far too expensive and slow to introduce. The future is likely going to be from a startup like Quaise Energy (if there's still time enough to turn it around), look it up. 🙂

I don't disagree with anything in this video, and we definitely need to "'wean" ourselves off petroleum and it needs genuine efforts along with cooperation and commitment by every petroleum producing country. However, I don't know why it is rarely, if ever mentioned that the amount of carbon emissions contributed by Canada is about 1.9% of the total worlds emissions. The China, the US, India and Russia are by far the major contributors of emissions. It is important we acknowledge that even If Canada had the ability to completely stop our carbon emissions tomorrow, we would still experience the same devastating effects that we have now (most likely for decades to follow), until the largest emitting countries (China, Russia, India and the US) reduce theirs substantially.

I mean the problem with batteries car is what happens to the battery that’s dead I think is more harmful than fossil fuel
If you're looking for the answer to this question, the UA-cam channel Engineering with Rosie talks about this in the context of wind turbines. Sometimes, the same arguments are made. "Turbine blades aren't recyclable. Won't it be worse for the environment than just burning fossil fuels?" But it ends up being negligible compared to the damage caused by burning fossil fuels.
I imagine the batteries used for EVs and grid energy storage work the same way. Some cost to mine the minerals, yes. Some damage done. Same for the parts of it that can't be recycled at end of life. But still much less harmful than burning fossil fuels.
I'd love to see a version of this for batteries to confirm my gut feeling (or prove it wrong).
Not enough dead EV batteries to be recycled en-masse. That will change. Perhaps you could try learning a bit more about such subjects? It is quite fascinating when you remove the political BS.
Lol,.Danielle Smith does NOT live in the real world.
It's unjust news reporting that doesn't tell the complete story. It does not address both sides of the controversy.
