Despite all the usual online complaining, what an amazing time to be alive as a gamer. This, Zelda, Persona 5, Horizon Zero Dawn, Cuphead, Nioh, etc. And even Resident Evil and Sonic are good again! 2017 is legendary for games :)
UrbanaSupernovA Crash Bandicoot Remaster, A hat in time, South Park the fractured but whole, Splatoon 2, Mario rabbids. It's been great this year!
Don't forget Nier: Automata. I keep hearing single-player games are dead yet we had so many amazing games come out this year
Mog Gles what this guy said, horizon? Was just another generic Western open world
Such a great year . Nxt year will be better.
Oh yeah, we can't forget about Metroid being great again as well! Best Tales game in years, best Yakuza game too :D
I'm 33 years old. I've been a gamer for life. I remember playing Mario 64 when it launched and being transported. I loved the Nintendo charm. As I got older I kind of switched to more "mature" gaming experiences on Playstation and XBox. But now, I don't know what it is, but that Nintendo charm has sucked me back in and I'm back to being a Nintendo fan, 100%. The shear joy you get from Nintendo games like this is simply unmatched.
Jake Wirkkala I also got to experience Super Mario 64 when it launched (got the Nintendo 64 as an early birthday present haha!). I loved the magical feel of that era and quickly got into the PlayStation on Christmas of 1997.
Well said
I hate it when people say "mature" gaming. But you seem cool
Jake Wirkkala I feel almost the exact same, but I'm 26.
I'm just a tad bit younger at 30 but feel just like you 😊
Look at these guys
Two dudes, that love gaming , bringing people together
THIS is what it's about people
Buying the hell outta this game , can't wait
I was not convinced at first but after playing Odyssey I was blown away by the crisp mechanics and level design
TheGebs24 - I wasn’t really convinced either, once all the 10/10 reviews started pouring in a few days ago I started taking a closer look. Only pre-ordered a few days ago. I am in love with, easily one of the best games I own.
Did you play this PS3 game called Sideway: New York on PS3 and PC published on 2011? Looks like Nintendo BLATANTLY RIPPED OFF this game for Super Mario Odyssey and The Legend of Zelda A link between Worlds!!!!
ua-cam.com/video/fPOOufc7heU/v-deo.html
I love Victor's Mario 64 story
it was crazy right
That dude would be able to do an awesome Jeff goldblum impression
Mitchimus Prime that's true 😂
This was a great review! Can’t wait for my copy to get here tomorrow.
Im absolutely loving this game. I will say its a lot easier to get into and fall in love with then Zelda. Where Zelda the more I played it the more I fell in love with it.
really? interesting. i love both games like no other but it was the exact opposite for me. mario didn't really feel like it was picking up for me until after the first few hours whereas zelda had me completely absorbed the moment i left the cave.
Exactly the same for me! Zelda while it was good, to me it was not love at first sight.. oh not at all. At first I was extremely disappointed by the new gameplay proposition. Mario Odyssey on the other hand, ohh boy was I happy to see it was mario 64 and sunshine blended with new mechanics. Perfect freaking game!
What turned me off of Zelda MAJORLY at the beginning was the constant weapon breaking. I was not prepared for that at all, and it even annoyed me up to the end of the game but I sort of warmed up to it a bit. Mario definitely makes a better impression from the get-go with the marvelous Sand Kingdom that you gain access to really early on. I'd wager Sand Kingdom is one of the best Mario worlds ever.
Indeed, the weapon breaking annoyed me, because weapons in real life are FAR more durable than they are in Breath of the Wild. I can't believe how easily the swords break.
For me, Breath of the Wild is the Elder Scrolls games of Zelda.
Nintendo has 2 serious goty candidates BoTW and Mario, what a great year to be a Nintendo fan 🙌🏽
The enthusiasm on display here is such a great example of what makes this channel (and Vic's!) so awesome, their joy and excitement is contagious! I can play MK8 and BOTW on Wii U, but I really wanna get a Switch now.
My copy has been dispatched 15 mins ago and will be in my hands tomorrow waahoo!
Michael C Nice! mine hasn't shipped yet :(
Not if I sabotage your delivery >:D
Lenny Wright sure it will do soon bud
Bat Mon Then ill sabotage your face :-D
Hahah, let us know how it goes!
I cannot wait to get my hands on this tomorrow!!! Your review has me HYPED!
A game with no story that still has spoilers because the gameplay IS the fun of the game is e act;y why Nintendo is leaps and bounds ahead of all competition.
Awesome review! Just got the game and gonna stream it! So excited
I got a lot of catching up to do, including past games.
That coins are your lives was a straight bite off of Sonic lol
Ever since Mario Sunshine I feel like the games are just really dumbed down & too easy... they went from being Mario games to being more like Banjo Kazooie or Donkey Kong 64 type of gameplay. I always preferred the 2-D side scrolling mario games.
Dougs World agreed
3D world was pretty challenging, but yes beside that 3d Mario games pretty easy
Galaxy two gets tough as balls towards the middle
" they went from being Mario games to being more like Banjo Kazooie or Donkey Kong 64 type of gameplay"
You realize that Mario 64 started the 3d platforming genre right?
Absolutely, most importantly, the core gameplay has been dumbed down, the physics overall, Mario's running speed, jumping and physical momentum, doesn't have the same force and "feel" as it did in 64 and Sunshine. Just compare wall jumping in 64 to this, in 64, Mario launches off the wall with great force, but here, barely anything at all...
ua-cam.com/video/wi7EmflcaMY/v-deo.html
Ever since Galaxy, it's been like this and this game continues the casual trend. Just running and jumping around over and over is what made 64 so fun for me, doing the same here doesn't feel the same, and it's quite boring by comparison. Too bad most ppl don't even notice it.
This year has been incredible for games for me. Breath of the Wild, Resident Evil 7, Persona 5, Uncharted Lost Odyssey, Super Mario Odyssey, Horizon Zero Dawn, Cuphead, Final Fantasy XII Nioh the list goes on and on. And Sonic coming back to glory with Sonic Mania was amazing too :)
im getting my switch, odyssey and breath of the wild tomorrow.
this game makes me want to buy a Switch
Yea I think it's insulting not to own a switch. It's insulting to the gaming as a culture. The ONLY fair reason not to have one is lack of money.
have you heard about zelda?
what is this "zelda" you speak of?
apparently a bunch of people bought a Switch just to play it. in case you needed another reason to buy a Switch
man me too
Vic's sunshine review on ep way back when on tech tv was the best. Just floating in a boat while tommy got more and more bored listening to him talk
A lot of gameplay shown here looks refreshingly fun...this might convince me to buy a Switch.
You should. I thought it looked fun in the trailers. Then I played it and it blew my mind.
Haha your coins are your lives? Mario is out here having to pay for insurance!
I keep going back to Odyssey every night a get a chance to game. I thought last night I might get back into 2k, but nope got in the menu's and I quickly closed and booted up Odyssey and put another 2 hours in. This game is awesome. I love how I am always seeing something that catches my eye and I have a new goal to reach. Or I'm just jumping around an then I see my next destination. I love how I left a couple kingdoms early went back a couple kingdoms later and found all kinds of new stuff in the first couple of kingdoms.
The absolute pinnacle of what a video game should be complete and mindless FUN!!!
My 3 year old and I just beat this game over the holidays. We’re currently playing Mario 64 as well, original version. He got all the references to 64 and can’t put Odyssey down. We wanna collect all the moons now and costumes. 11/10 for us. lol
I recently bought Super Mario Odyssey (along with a Switch Lite) & am currently trying to collect every single moon & purple coin. The game is an absolute blast to play & I think one of the most brilliant games ever created.
Sunshine was fucking awesome, don't get how people didn't like it.
Mr.Danky people did like it...
then why were sales so low, as well as reviews published in 2002? People may like it 15 years later, but they're blinded by nostalgia, back in 2002 those old enough to remember when 64 was the big 3D game hated how it was so cartoony, and incorporated the FLUDD.
Was a bit too gimmicky for me and I hated the delphino residents liked the graphics though
Jack Son. Sales were low because the GameCube was a disaster for Nintendo. Some absolute classics on the system though.
Sunshine isn't an bad game by all means. But it does have many of it's flaws. In my honest opinion, it wasn't that well crafted of an game. It's one of those games that some people love or some people hate or just between average. For me, it's an average game that could've been better.
as soon as I saw your face in the thumbnail I knew the game had to be amazing lmao
At 3:17 i was like USE YOUR PARAGLIDER oh wait
Comparing Odyssey to BotW is like comparing a Nintendo Switch game to a Nintendo Wii U game. Oh, wait... that's exactly what they are.
Odessey is a 10/10 game no body can tell me different!
The 2 of you have perfect chemistry, and this was a great review!
New main zelda and Mario game during the same year^^
"we don't want to spoil the game" ... shows several never before seen pieces of gameplay, visuals and scenarios.
That guy looks just like the guy from the Electronic Playgrounds.
Biff Tannen that because he is.
Thank You! I couldn't remember where i knew him from.
No, this guy is way too handsome
I know a lot of people say it's not unique enough, and I agree. It's pretty much SM64 all the way, even down to the moves. When I started playing, I knew right away how to duck backflip, jump three times for a superjump, run, duck and jump for a longjump etc. It's SM64, through and through. But that said, I was expecting it, so I absolutel love this game. It was everything I hoped it would be, and then some. Maybe there could have been a few more surprises, more unique things to do and so on, but overal, I think it's a fantastic game. Been hyped for this since the Switch reveal in January, and it lived up to it.
I wasn't going to watch any reviews but I had to see how hyped Johnny it was
Your passion is contagious. Thanks for a little positivity.
Breath of the Wild and Mario Odyssey... oh man Nintendo's back baby.
Where they ever gone? lol
I am picking up a SWITCH Mario Odyssey Bundle tomorrow!! I can not wait to play this game!!
Super glad I pre-ordered this game. Can't wait until it's released! Great non-spoiling review!
You guys have me so pumped and hyped for this that today won't go by fast enough so I can go out and get this game!!!!
I am so fucking stoked for this. 15 hours is perfect length for the main story alone. I like to go back and do extra stuff after i'm done so this will be dope as all hell.
Writing those lines from Barcelona(spain), in the middle of the polithical caos, this game brings a little of light in those dark days...
The dev teams at Nintendo are God's .
Wow, that was one crazy Mario 64 story, playing on a mini screen and black and white
Great to see you both review! Love Film Fury! I'm going to get the game in few hours at the night release in a local gamestore - excited!
Damnit you can ignore a Nintendo console until they release Mario
RJTech
And zelda and Metroid and pokemon if you are an handheld buyer.
RJTech Zelda for me, but Mario is a close second.
Agreed about Zelda, Metroid, and Nintendo in general. But Mario is the undisputed king of video games. Proven it time and time again.
I can attest to that, I bought a Wii for Mario Galaxy, bought a 3DS for 3D Land, and I want to buy a Switch for Mario Odyssey... Most of their other games are pretty good, but it's Mario that makes you go: "Okay, I NEED this console in my life!"
*can't
Games like this don’t come along very often just buy it, worth buying the switch for!
I got my copy today and been playing it solid all day it is an incredible game!
Super Mario Odyssey is one of the best Mario games I've ever played since the Galaxy games & Bowser's Inside Story. This game brought me back into the franchise that the 2011-2016 ones didn't accomplish for my sake. I had an special place in my heart for this game since this was an phenomenal return to my love for the Mario games.
Omigosh, Johhny great video!! I can't wait to pick up my copy today!!
Ah damn now we're up to 4 Switch games I actually want. When Pokemon and Animal Crossing comes, I'm so there.
I love your energy Johnny, big part of why I love being subscribed to this channel!
Wow! You guys make me feel like I should go out and buy a switch and Mario Odyssey today. Should I do that?
great mario game felt like i was playing mario 64 back in the 90s
This game is such a nostalgic throwback and proof 3D platformers aren’t dead. Makes me wish they would do a sequel to DK64. Even though that was Rare I’m sure Nintendo could pull it off.
Absolutely loving my early copy. This game is everything I wanted it to be. Doing massive giveaways for the game on Saturday!!
Didn't the guy on the right used to have a TV show on G4 with Tommy Tallarico?
That's very good news! I'm getting AC Origins this week so I'll be getting Mario sometime later. I'm very happy to hear that it's THIS good though. That'll be great when I get back to my Switch and I'll have another great game to play on it.
My gripe is similar to Johnny's. I've played this game and think they made the kingdoms way too small to be able to be excited exploring them. They're the size of isles. With the ideas they chose to make environments, they could have easily made them much more diverse and expansive, with more of the traditional uniquely Mario world features mixed in. This is supposed to be a world exploring adventure, influenced by real world environments which are massive, so they decide to make the total explorable space per kingdom vastly smaller than the levels in previous Mario games. More item blocks, power ups, alternating platforms, hard to reach places than what they put in could easily be worked to make a more challenging and long lasting journey through each kingdom. Some of the backgrounds have much more space that could be explored than the tiny secluded area's you actually do get to interact with. If they made the total amount of space to explore in each environment, collectively, as much as the backgrounds of New Donk City, I would be much more content. Not writing that this is a bad game, but that with the game play mechanic they chose and the combination of realistic and Mario style worlds meshed in such a creative way, the small environment size and lack of Mario style obstacles and power ups leaves much to be desired. But it leaves more ideas for sequels, at least. A Mario game that has this games play style but bigger parts of each type of environment accessible in the ones the size of this game, being hub worlds instead, would be phenomenal. This one I wouldn't rate more than 8/10. I still think Mario peaked with the Galaxy games, they were everything I was expecting and then some.
So "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" Mario edition to the extreme, I'm down for it looks amazing.
This game is a must have. Buy it.
The Mario in the city reminds me so much of Sonic Adventure.
This was the only Mario Odyssey review I decide to watch and I didn't regret it for a second, Great job!
Victor Is Johnny the new Tommy?
When I think it's all set and done. Mario Odyssey will go down as the best Mario game of all time
Wow looks awesome, can't wait to play this game tomorrow!! But can't believe Vancouver still has green grass!? Looks so nice there compared to Calgary just one province away :-(
Why doesn't the captains hat show up in the 2d sections though? and when you capture something you also get the red M hat.
The engines of Odyssey and BotW are so stellar that I really hope they reuse them in refined sequels akin to Galaxy 2 or Majora's Mask; it would seriously cut down on development length.
I initially scored it the same as Johnny, but after I unboxed the Wedding Peach Amiibo and found you could play in drag... I changed it to 11/10!!
15-20 hours with a fast play style is HUGE for a platform game! this is great, cannot wait!
Getting my Mario Switch bundle in less than two hours!!!
I just did!
Just played it for a half hour and man is it good. I love that Nintendo gives you the option to use motion controls or not now.
I rarely pick up games at launch but I'm definitely picking this up on Friday!
This was so good to watch! Some genuine excitement and articulate review.
i can't wait to get my copy
These games are rare I recommend everyone play it even the salty crew
The Rawalpindi Express Already bored of seeing you got a moon!
you got a moon!
you got a moon!
you got a moon!
Seems like Mario's become a dress up collectamoonathon! Think I'll pass, have fun though! You got a moon! (Should have called it moonshine get)
Way to go Nintendo. You have impressed everyone with your new console, version of Zelda and Mario. Victor is excited to see what you're going to do with Metroid, Donkey Kong, Star Fox. Now all you need is a FREAKING NEW F-ZERO! GET ON IT!!!
Hmm my settings make my games look washed out compared to videos I’ve seen of Mario odyssey and BotW. Gotta fix that. Amazing games.
God damn I miss Electric Playground
You know Vic? I totally remember electronic playground back in the late 90's.
Looks awesome! It's a good thing I don't own a Switch, because my games backlog is already sky high. Too many great games, too little time!
Reviews on the Run 2.0??
I said to myself that I would never buy a console because a single game, now we have two.. gotta rethink
To try and compare Mario and Zelda is kinda dumb. I believe they are both great games for what they are
And hey Its Victor from G4 ! Yay I remember him from years ago ! ^_^
When I was a kid and the bird took my hat in the pyramid level in Mario 64. I was scarred on an emotional level. I remember being so mad that this fucking bird had the gal to steal Mario's hat; who the fuck does he think he is?
This is why I will love and support Nintendo until I am dead and buried. I feel the world would somehow be wrong if they were no longer around.
vio2112 SAME
Definitely playing the game using Mario's wedding dress. I hope there's a Zero Suit Mario costume in the game. LUL.
The game is hype!
The only thing they did not include was luigi and a real 2 player mode. So close to perfect. Still I would buy again!
CANT WAIT
Nintendo switch is the golden turn-around for Nintendo after the Wii U failure.
The Wii U was important for Nintendo to realize not to become complacent!
Tomorrow is going to be a great day for video games! Getting one game on each of my 3 consoles, Mario will be played first.
I got a Mario Odyssey ad on this video lol
I love super mario odyssey... It's the reason I bought a switch.. Great review guys 👍
This game was pure fun. Literally and honestly just pure fun. I got bored of NSMB3D LAND and 3D!!! Like it was fun for the first 40 minutes but, this game truly captures at least part of the joy of playing 64 or sunshine. Not directly similar, a game in it's own class, but sooo much funnnn
dude this reminds me of Electric Playground, just needs Tommy Tollarico...
Hey what outfit was Mario Wearing with the tan vest?? How can I unlock that?
The only two things I felt were negatives in Sunshine were, first and foremost, the camera, and to a lesser extent the rather uniform beach environments (which made sense on an island, but it's fun to see a greater variety). Oh wait, the missing long jump is a small third lol
Otherwise, I still adore Sunshine to this day. There's things to criticize (which is very true of Mario 64 btw), but it's undeniably a great game.
