Cool video. The Hebert's sure have an efficient running operation, at times. An interesting idea would be to follow the trucks to the mill, so you can show why the cane carts and tractors end up having to wait at times to unload.
@@AerialAg I have driven past Cajun sugarcane cooperative and I have driven by LASUCA sugar mill and at the LASUCA sugar mill I see more tractors pulling sugarcane carts than at Cajun where I see more sugarcane trucks I wonder why is that the case .
@@gabrielbeyt6267 I was actually by LASUCA yesterday doing some filming. And yes, plenty of tractors haul there. I guess it all depends on how far farmers around the mill have to travel with their cane.
Is there a reason you use metal tracks on the cane harvestor ? Looks like JD could make them similar to the tracks on their tractors. I bet there is a very good reason why they use what's on there. Great video !
I know they used to have an option for rubber tracks back in the 90's, but they were never used much. I don't think they'd do as well in the mud as the metal ones do. Louisiana had one of the wettest grindings on record this year, the mud was terrible. So bad there was actually bulldozers in some fields pushing the tractors and cane wagons through. I doubt the rubber tracks would have fared well..
I have a whole video on that.. Plus in the next couple days I'm going to upload a video with the cab view of a 2-row cane combine.. ua-cam.com/video/5wAc-6OOyis/v-deo.html
The harvester takes in whole stalks of sugarcane and chops them into 12-14" pieces called billets. The piece sticking out in front is called the topper. It cuts and discards the green tops (if the cane is standing straight) which is trash. Knock down rollers push the cane down while a base cutter cuts it at the base. It's then sucked into the machine and chopped. The trash is blown out the back and the cane goes up the elevator to the cane wagon. If you want to REALLY want see how it works check out this video from John Deere. It goes through the entire machine: ua-cam.com/video/5bLwlqIksK8/v-deo.html

Gotcha, I live on the gulf coast in Alabama. I know what you mean about the rain. It has been non stop.
Wonderful video and nice Harvester!!!
What part of the plant does the harvester spit out the back?
The brown leafy shucks that are on the cane stalk and also the green tops that arnt removed by the topper (the piece that extends out the front.)

Wow, interesting operation. How about a little narration on how the harvester works for us northerners.

So I guess the Cane loader is history
There's still a few farms that harvest wholestalk cane.. Also most farms in Louisiana use wholestalk equipment for planting.. so not yet.
